Price History of Tab

Description of Tab

Tab is the simple way to split a bill amongst friends. Snap a pic of the receipt and tap your items to claim them. Tax and tip are calculated for you. No more back-of-the-napkin algebra or typing in prices by hand! Here’s how it works: - Take a picture of your itemized receipt. Tab automatically detects all the items and prices. - Select which items each person ordered. Everyone that has Tab on their phone can join onto the bill and select their own items - the app keeps everything synced in real-time. - Multiple people can select the same item if they shared it. - Tax and tip are automatically divided proportionally. - If it's someone's birthday, you can split their total evenly among everyone else. - View and share detailed summaries of your past bills Tab has been featured on the Today show, "apps of the year" lists from Buzzfeed, Complex and others, Product Hunt, CNN, and more!

  • Tell all your friends

I love this app so much and it’s been a game changer going out with friends! It’s so easy to pass my phone around and have everyone claim what they ordered, even when there’s 10+ people. I have told a bunch of friends in the industry and they are also obsessed, making their lives easier.
    My only complaints/requests are
    1. It’s not intuitive to get back into a check after you’re done with it and also how do I see the picture I took?
    2. A request for a feature (that I’m fairly certain doesn’t exist right now) so that a user can mark who paid? When trying to venmo after a few days, it’s difficult to remember who actually paid.
  • A great idea, poorly executed

I love the idea of this app - and if it worked properly it would be a lifesaver. However this app is terrible at itemizing items. I used a very clear photo of my receipt- the app included the “subtotal”, “tax”, and “total” amounts as line items that I then had to manually delete. Then, the app added a 58 dollar tip and I have no idea where they came from even after investigating my receipt. A 20% tip on our bill (which we left) was only ~20 dollars.

This app also does not let you edit the dollar amount of tax charged (in my case the app put it down as 0, which isn’t correct), which seems like a massive oversight. You should at least have the option to manually enter the amount of percentage of tax charged considering how bad the app is at itemizing.

I am giving two stars, simply because the app DID itemize the actual items on my receipt correctly, with correct dollar amount and (close enough) names. With some manual override, I was about to get the bill within ~10 dollars of the actual amount paid - so in the end it can still be useful. This app has a lot of potential, it just needs a better algorithm at itemizing, and a manual override feature for the amount of tax paid.
  • Almost there

I actually use the app to split grocery receipts with my roommate moreso than for restaurants. UI could be vastly improved. Editing Bill Names, for example, can be a pain. If my bill name is too lengthy, I am unable to exit out of the bill to go back to my list of bills (so I end up having to force close the app and reopen). Another fix would be typing in general. If I need to edit the beginning of my text, I can move the cursor over to the spot I need but the moment I backspace or start typing, the cursor moves all the way back to the end & I am left having to delete the whole thing to restart and get it right the first time. Because my use case is a little different, I don’t need to have the tips auto set to 18% - if there’s a way to just have this default to zero instead, that’d be ideal.
