Great app, search needs improvement
I love this app and have found its simple and effective content to be perfect for learning languages, without all the frustrating time wasting of similar but more gamified language learning apps. The only issue I have is the search function - it essentially does not work, and can only search the headings of scenarios, which are not many and already available for view. This means if I want to learn about a specific topic (ie ‘adverbs of time’, or anything to do with ‘time’) I need to scroll endlessly through various topics and hope to come across what I need. I hope this will be improved in the future.

Good, but missing some key features!
I’ve been using this app for a few weeks now to learn European Portuguese. Overall, I really like it and I’ve found it useful and easy to use. I feel like I’m really learning and not just memorizing. However there are a few features I would LOVE to see in an update:
- the option to slow down speech. The native speakers using the language is so helpful in hearing real people speak, but because they are fluent, sometimes it’s too fast for me to follow. I feel like I’m missing out on nuances of syllable emphasis, sounds, and pronunciation, especially as I’ve moved past single words into short phrases.
- the “leveling up” method. I was in the middle of a lesson, switched from the main learning to watch a few videos, and gained enough points to reach the next level. I feel like I’ve missed out on learning everything from the level I was on, and I can’t find a way to go back.
- the learning review: I’m glad I can get a review each day, but I wish I could review things more than once.
- the AI chat bot should scale up as skills progress. It’s having me participate in student lectures/debates about family relationship styles, meanwhile I don’t even know how to say “my name is….” yet. It would be nice to have a beginner level chat bot that has more advanced conversations as I get better at the language myself.

It’s alright.
It’s alright to start a language out. I am trying to learn Netherlands/Belgium Dutch. After reviewing what I’ve learned and used the conversations part to use what I had learned, I showed it to two people I know from Netherlands and Belgium. My fiancé being from Belgium and our friend born and raised in the Netherlands. And they said the conversations part was teaching me wrong. When I asked in the conversation practice if blankets are on sale, instead of it saying, “ hebben jullie een dekbed te koop” it said this instead, “ hebben jullie een dekbed gekocht”. And both of them corrected what it was suppose to say. Another example on this practice conversation section: when it asked me how I will be paying I said in euro, because the app never taught me the word for cash. It then told me they don’t accept euros. Which is odd because this is suppose to be Dutch which is in Europe which would be euro for currency. It wanted me to say cash or debit card. But it never taught me the word for cash so my people over there had taught me how to say I want to pay in cash which is, “ik zou graag contant betalen” and I don’t recall it teaching me debit card because they don’t call it debit over there, they call it bankkaarten and another word. So this app needs some work on it still.

Very functional and focused learning app
I've been using this for a year or so now, and I really like it. It is very simple, responsive, and works well. It is easy to move from learning new words to watching videos to practicing chat. I love the native speaker videos when learning new vocabulary, you can hear a variety of dialects and differences between speakers. The support is responsive, and they are good about fixing and improving things. As with all language apps, just using the app alone will not make you fluent, but I found this to be the easiest and best one to use for getting quick and daily vocabulary and practice. I hated the long animations between Duolingo scenarios, for example, it felt like a waste of time and there was no way to turn that off.
For a beginner, I was self led with this app for maybe 6 months at 10-15 min a day, and when I decided to take a class, that may have been equivalent to a first semester course. I was able to take a second semester and surprisingly be one of the more advanced there. For more advanced speakers, this is an excellent vocab supplement and practice. If you know a word, mark it as known, and move on.

Extremely underrated
I just downloaded it so I haven’t got much knowledge but when I have more knowledge I will come back and update you guys but anyways. So this game has a pretty good way of teaching. So there’s like a person saying a phrase and you can make it repeat until you memorise it and you will get tested later on on it. Also o haven’t tried vip but from what I see it’s like 10+ new features you get with it including a ai chat for £5 pounds a month. And I also tried duolingo for a week and I really like this app works better for me as in the phrases are more useful for conversations. And the way they teach it is more better personally as in duolingo you need to go to a separate place to learn the words meanings. If there was anything bad about this I would say if there could be more colours and cartoonish characters just to seem more fun but apart from that this app is very good!!

Sadly doesn’t do anything
I have an old login and now when trying to log in it tells me the community course has moved and sends me in a loop between the app and website, with the only options being to Learn more (goes to an identical webpage) or to sign out. Can’t seem to get into the app so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ can’t really give it more than 1 star

Needs Work
It’s not a bad app, however, it appears that a subscription is not recognized across all your Apple devices. Much work is needed increasing the ease of reviewing words is some sections of the app. For instance, the summery after a lesson has no access to clicking on the word to again hear a native speaker actually pronouncing the word.
Even in the paid version they are constantly pushing their ‘Membot’ for WhatsApp.
The app needs work. Until then, it’s adequate.

Best value for money app ever
When I consider all the apps I have, memrise has always been the keeper. I genuinely feel I get more for my money, with this app; than any other app I’ve ever purchased. The language courses are fantastic. They are fun, never feel like a chore, you can pick up and put down when you like, and the way in which it teaches you really does help the language stick in your memory, without you even realising it.
I have had to recently leave it for about 7 months and have gone back to it and shocked how much of Spanish I have retained in my long term memory! There are so many courses aside from languages, such as maths, geography, TOEFL, on their community courses site. I’m not the best at learning and retaining information but memrise have got it nailed! 100% worth every penny!!!

Gone down hill
When I first started using this app I loved it, it was so useful and I learnt a lot. Updates happened I adjusted but liked it less. However the latest update makes me regret paying for another year. I just find it useless now. The use of AI is frustrating and the whole app just feels so unfriendly and difficult to actually learn a language. More useful now for a quick holiday translation app.
