Pay to play, please fix

I love the concept, I love the cute creatures, I love the breeding idea, I love the endless possibilities

Please please take away the paywall on breeding, or at least make someway where players can grind or play to earn nests, you will make more money if you do, this game has so much potential, don’t waste it!

The Main Feature is Paywalled

I've been playing for a few days now and I do want to see this game succeed. However, I have a few issues with the management of it. The nests and hatch-a-dot feature are paywalled, if you want to roll the dice and get a new dot once it's full-grown it'll cost money. The game gives you one nest for free and as far as I can tell, that's it.
The combination and cross-breeding aspect of this game is the main thing that is advertised, along with the feature collection and archetype wall. There's no way I can see to get past that without spending money, which is a real shame.

I would love to be more positive about this game, but at the moment I don't see much heart behind it as much as it feels like a cashgrab. I think the AR technology is interesting, very solid for modern day, and I hope to see it grow and develop, but if the game is pay to play I can't see it maintaining an audience.

Disappointing, but it has so much potential!

I’m not sure why my previous review can’t be found anywhere (I suspect it was deleted), but I wanted to love this game. It has such a cute concept, and I was looking forward to it. However, you can’t play without paying at least $5 per Dot after receiving your one free nest. This is an unsustainable business model, and I don’t see this game lasting if they don’t do something different. I read that the beta model had players scavenge for nest materials. Maybe do something like that again? Even a weekly/monthly free nest would be better than this. The in-game currency could also be used to purchase them. But really? $5 per Dot? I absolutely love my first Dot and I am still going to play until I get my second, but I am not going to pay real money for the main draw of a game that is buggy, overheats my phone within 10 minutes, and drains my battery quickly.

Fun, but the monetization needs work

As it stands, I don’t know if this game will succeed with its current monetization scheme. It’s very fun, but I’m simply not going to pay for a service that may be pulled shortly into the future because its overzealous monetization prevented it from appealing to enough players. Hatch-a-dot is a core mechanic, and necessary to complete the gameplay loop. Not to mention that breeding dots to collect ‘archetypes’ of traits is treated as the long term goal of the game. Doing so obviously is meant to take many rounds of breeding with an element of luck in finding partners and randomizing baby dot traits. Paying for just the chance to obtain the dot a player wants is sure to turn many people away, myself included.

It’s a shame, because I’m enjoying the game otherwise. I wouldn’t mind buying a premium currency to breed a dot with a specific appearance more quickly, or picking up some real-world merch if I was sure I would be able to enjoy this game long-term. I hope that Niantic can make some meaningful changes soon.

Fun but ...

I was having such a fun time playing the game, the concept is really cool and I love the design of everything. But to have an essential part of the game be one use and then $5 per after is just too much. Even in pokémon go, the incubators - which aren't an essential function - you have one that as infinite uses with ability to purchase more if you so choose. Obviously the functions aren't the same as you can't reasonably hatch multiple Peridots at the same time, but maybe instead of giving out so many free gems - push those to be bought instead of an nests, as they have real benefit if collected. As a player, i'm much more likely to spend money on the game when an Item or currency can produce something rare, special, etc. Even a nest with abilities to produce higher chances for rare combinations or abilities would be a better alternative to just having to buy a basic necessity of the game. Anyways I still enjoy the game but definitely hinders my ability to continue playing if I have to spend $5 each time to do the entire point of the game.

Pay to play

It’s a modern tamagotchi, where you can feed and play with your pet. You raise it from infancy to adulthood, where the only new thing to do is breed your pet to unlock a different appearances (which can only be unlocked by levelling up your user level). You cannot breed new pets without paying cash for nests. Beyond that, there’s not much else to do and it gets boring pretty fast.

Peridot is cute, but still needs some work

I love this game, and I know theres a lot of bugs, but the game did just come out so thats to be expected. Nests are way to expensive to get especially if you're a minor and broke like me. It would be great if they could add a few nests to the daily login maybe even just very late into the month if they want to make it harder. or maybe a nest as a prize for completing all of your weekly tasks would be nice, maybe they could even randomize it so it would be like a 1 in 4 chance of a nest and maybe a dewdrop or dotnip or something so its still harder. If you read my rating thanks I just think these would be better ways to get nests because its a bit ridiculous to pay $5 every time you want a third or fourth dot.

Amazing game!

I really hope this game doesn’t fail like minecraft earth or something

Graphics

You can’t always see your dot. Which makes the experience a bit poor. There is also not enough activities within the game. I feel like they will introduce new things.

Adorable idea but…

This is really an adorable concept. I’ve been hoping people would make a good version of a game like this for years. But they are risking their player base trying to get too much money out of people to hatch new pets (the point of the game). I have no idea what they’re thinking. I’m gonna try to hold out and play slowly to see if it’s still fun. But I’m worried, especially if they don’t fix the friends list bug. (Many people like me can’t scroll down on your friends list without it going blank, even you even get that far.)

The traits are fun, and the uniqueness is fun. It’s also pretty great how object recognition is used for things like flowers and pets and how you can bounce a ball off surfaces. Yes, it’s a bit glitchy, but it’s still nice. I hope they add a lot of features soon and fix the $5 nests problem. I want to keep playing. Also, I just discovered you can see all the habitats in the area and see nearby dots for each of them without actually standing at each of them. That’s really nice, and I hope they keep it that way. It’s good for breeding.
