Has potential

This game really does have potential to be great, but it’s almost as if hitting a wall as soon as your first dot grows up and you have no way to earn new nests besides the one that comes. There is nothing more that can be done besides repeating the same few actions feed , play and do tasks. On Apple device I haven’t been able to add any friends for the whole time since launch and I feel as though that makes it discouraging to find things to do or want to use my one and only nest. While waiting for more updates to fix the glitches there is not much to do with no friends, no way to earn nests etc . I want to keep playing and enjoying hatching new dots but after liking a game so quick and relizing it’s going to use my real money to play more than a few days and not at all any way to earn the nests by playing the game it’s hard. I understand having some paid feature but the nests are the CORE part of the game and should at least be earnable so people can get hooked and then more rare ones or packs could be paid… please fix the friends list as I really wanna keep playing.

Cute but not F2P

This game is right up my alley! Breeding cute pets called Dots to see what you can unlock, walking with them and more! I love how they interact with you and how you can help them grow. Here’s the issue though. You get a free nest (one item needed to breed) at first, but after that you need to pay $5.00 to get another. Yes, $5 per nest. You cannot get nests for free which makes the game boring and.. well honestly disappointing as you can’t do anything else after. There’s also the issue with it making your phone extremely hot. I have to keep my quality low which only helps a little, as it still gets very hot when I’m playing. I have an iPhone 13 max pro or whatever so it’s not the oldest phone. I’ve heard people with the newest version of whatever phone they have still overheating.. but I can’t confirm that. You also need sun drops to breed which you can get 400 a day from friends- currently unlimited- but there’s an issue where the screen blacks or whites out if you try to scroll down, making it impossible to get to the rest of your friends. It’s a shame really because this game has so much potential. But Niantic making this game’s main mechanic locked behind a paywall is pretty disappointing to say the least. Maybe they’ll change it; hopefully when the hype is still fresh.

Has potential but the paywall...

The fact you HAVe to pay 5$ for each time you breed a dot is insane. When the dots themselves and discovering them is the main game loop, this game quickly becomes crazy expensive. And the supporting features like feeding and petting your pet do not justify this insane cost. It would be much better if the nests could be obtainable without paying, and instead monetization is locked behind seeing into the eggs, cosmetics, or even certain dot traits (which btw all of these also cost real money...but at least you get a few free for playing.) if they change the game to give more ability for the users to actually play the game and the monetization to be supporting the player then this game would be 5 stars for me. I'm disappointed that a game like this theoretically will cost more for me to play than other games like genshin impact... the blatant greed makes me less likely to support. The idea is so cool but the game just doesn't deliver because of this nest paywall. Atm it just doesn't justify the spend. But if this changes I'll 100% change this review to a higher star rating. Best of luck to the team of Peridot.

MASSIVE PAYWALL! (First review was deleted)

This is my second review, as my first one was deleted.
So I say again, this game has a massive paywall that is not advertised. The core aspect of the game is to “breed” the creatures and “discover” new traits. However, when in game, everything says all you need to do is use an in game currency to “breed.” It’s not until you actually start the process that it prompts you for an item that you have to pay $5USD for. That $5USD per! Not a one time purchase. Thats FALCE ADVERTISING. So, in order to play the game as intended, you end up paying $5USD EVERY SINGLE TIME you want to use the core aspect of the game. I personally don’t mind that they are charging real currency for the items, but the price is too steep and there is no option to use in game currency to purchase the items. In the end, it IS a cute game and it clearly needs work still. It has potential, but the pay wall needs to go before they lose all of their users. So for now, 1 star until things are fixed.

Great Concept

It’s super fun and cute and I love the visuals. However, even for a powerful newer phone it’s so immersive that it’s often very laggy and unforgiving on battery life and makes interacting with animals and flowers tasks very difficult. This game shows no mercy with the AR requirement and it’s sometimes really tiring on the eyes and the forced AR means a lot of my friends can’t even play it because their phones can’t handle constant AR usage so I miss out on a chance to enjoy the game with people locally. The Hatch a Dot system is annoying because most people show up in habitats nearby but no longer play the game and won’t get the request (probably sick of the constant AR or paywalls too) so the chance of actually breeding another Dot is minimal most of the time. Kinda kills the concept for me, I came into this hoping to create unique creatures and play with my friends who can’t even play the game. Pretty bummed. Really hope it gets better in the future like PokeGo did.

Good concept

It’s visually appealing and has potential but is let down by the aggressive payment model. Subscription based would serve it better. You offer both free and subscriber rewards that give bests at different intervals. Still sell the nests for the rich people. I’ll keep playing to see where this goes but I won’t be buying anything until it’s actually affordable.

Good bones but needs more

Great bones to this game and AR functionality is impressive but needs more meat on it to keep players interested for daily use. A lot of room for growth in the at-home pet care department and would be great to see other nearby peridots in ur AR view so u can see how your peridot interacts with its friends. Looks like this game is geared more at breeding peridots than raising them. While I could see that being popular for groups of kids in a school type setting, the 90s kid in me is looking for more of an AR tamagotchi style pet-raising app. When my peridot grew to an adult within 24 hours and all I had to do was toss some sandwiches at him and throw a ball a few times, my interest in the game dropped down pretty quickly. Looking forward to seeing how this app evolves though.

Extremely cute and overly adorable

This is the best dang “game” I have come across so far, I put “game” in quotes because you tend to think you’re dot is almost real because how lifelike and cute your little dot is… in fact I have gotten about 12 of my co workers to join the society, and we’ve been planning habitat parties based off of just showing my two dots off! I look forward to all the cute little dots I hatch in the future! I only wish there were more ways to win nests instead of having to buy them 😔 but that’s alright, definitely worth the wait and money! Try it out! I guarantee you will fall in love! Just like with your real dot….erm *cough* I mean pets!

Adorable, great potential, expensive

Peridot is still new, I get that. I expect new features will continue to come out and flesh out something that feels really special. I love my Dots and the animations and interactions you have with them are sweet and endearing.

Here’s my biggest problem: cost. It costs 5 dollars to hatch a new Dot (after your first two). When the whole game is centered around raising and hatching to find new traits, this becomes an issue. How much money would a dedicated player need to pay a month? 30 at the lowest. That’s six Dots. Once you’ve raised a Dot, the incentive to keep coming back gets halted.

I have no problem paying for a good game. I have no problem paying a subscription, even, for a good game I know I will enjoy. But this current monetization model will drive everyone away. I would pay probably 3-4 dollars a month flat in a subscription model. To ask your players to pay 5 every four days for continued progress and use is ridiculous. Please change the way that Nests are able to be obtained in some form or fashion. I know developers need income, I want to give them that. But you have to understand that the average person will stop playing as soon as they realize they have a 5 dollar block.

I love this game!!!! But..

Peridot gave me something to do in the meantime, when I was alone in my room. They’re so cute, and I would literally cuddle mine.. (awkward moment) You heard me.. I’d say, totally give this game a try, if you want. It thankfully doesn’t have any advertisements, from what I know of, and it’s extremely new! On the other side of things, the camera has terrible lags. I mean, mine walks through walls and furniture, etc. Then, I can only hatch 2 Dots for free! The rest are way expensive. I mean, $5 for a virtual pet each. Honestly, they only care about money…
Though, give this game a try! It’s overall great and gives a companion to ‘love on.’ You and I should know that since this game was just released, it has much, much more to go through in our real world. Okay bye!!
