I’m on my 2nd Birdfy product. I’ve had the blue top feeder with solar panel for over a year, and just purchased the camera with solar panel to focus on my birdbath. Overall, I’m pleased with their products and customer support has been responsive. The close up shots of birds being, well…, birds is so entertaining. I often will have it playing on my phone while I’m doing computer work. I have noticed a difference in distance focus between my two products, could be due to improved optics on my newer camera. But as I said before, the close ups are fantastic! Thanks, Birdfy, for great products! Look forward to trying the birdhouse next!!Great App
This app is a great companion to the Birdfy feeders. I have 2 feeders and the app keeps everything and all my pictures / videos in one place. Every once in a while the AI gets a bird wrong, but it’s easy to see why, as they are usually really close. The only thing that may help there would be to take geography into account. I had the AI identify a bird that only lives in Australia, and I’m in the Southern US. They looked close in appearance, but a quick territory check would have ruled out the one. The app is great for customizing your alerts, and controlling the feeders directly. There is something very therapeutic about getting an alert and a picture of a new bird randomly in the middle of the day. As a side note, they also make great security cameras.(Mostly) Works Great
I’ve been using this app for about three months and there have been plenty moments of joy - and a few of frustration. Overall, the joy has been most prominent and I’ve recommended the feeder and the app to friends. Welcoming new visitors to the feeder and getting to watch them so closely is great entertainment.
The frustration strikes when the app fails to upload/save a visit, even those highlighted with a notification. This happens roughly 20% of the time, or about one out of five notifications.
Our feeder was offline about two days while I waited for a call back from tech support. We effectively had to remove the connected feeder, turn off dark mode on my phone and reconnect the feeder. Even so, if I turn dark mode back on, I lose connection.
About half the time I cannot connect to the feeder’s live mode. I’ve not yet discovered why this is happening because I haven’t detected a pattern. I continue to receive notifications and can view uploaded/saved moments when live mode will not connect.
Finally, I was pleasantly surprised with the motion detection, but auto-recording seems a little slow. (The birds often come and go before the recording starts. So I’m seeing quite a few blurry take-off photos.) Motion detection only picks up us or the dog when we are very close to the feeder, and small insects haven’t triggered it. I do have a couple of moments featuring wasps, but it hasn’t been nearly the issue I thought it would be.
