Could be so good but glitchy.

I want to love this SO much but just can’t yet. Have yet to successfully watch a full game without having to uninstall and reinstall the app as the ads/commercials freeze. They freeze for minutes at a time and then no other buttons work outside of literally deleting the app and starting back over.

Actually as I’m writing this the actual game froze so it no longer seems like it’s just the ads. Hoping as more time passes it gets less buggy. Can’t see myself lasting with this if it doesn’t.

Great idea, needs polish

I’m really happy with the app and being to watch the Stars easily and at no cost from what I can tell. Being able to AirPlay it to your tv is great. A few little things could be better but it works, it’s free and has some good features.

Buffering; huddle format

Buffering stops the broadcast in the middle of a play over and over. Hockey Huddle format needs change so game fills screen. I don’t care about the discussion I usually have sound turned off anyway. Hockey is hard to follow when the screen is too small; it’s not like the NFL. Also consider the good thing about streaming is taking the game with you and watching on mobile or tablet.

Getting Better

This is an update from a previous review.

I’m glad to see you came to your senses and created an Apple TV app! It’s not perfect, but I’m still pleased with it.

One major problem is the operating system compatibility. Last time I checked, the App Store claimed it works with iPadOS 15+. Wrong! It doesn’t even work properly on iPadOS 16 with a second-generation large-screen iPad Pro. Those devices are only about six years old.

This is a common app developer problem, not testing on all devices that you claim are compatible. It works fine on iPadOS 17, but that model cannot run iPadOS 18, so be careful before you make more updates.

Also, please never allow scores to be shown unless the user specifically asks for them. The NHL made that mistake at first. Nobody wants to watch a game when you already know the outcome!

My main concern is still how you intend to pull in the entire potential audience. If you’re advertising, I’ve seen absolutely nothing. It would be comical if you’re advertising on Bally. Many hockey fans I know aren’t that into other sports. You need to look beyond that.

I would put a “Victory+ For Idiots” guide on the Stars website. If a group of 70+ people can figure out how to obtain a device and install the app, then you’ve succeeded. These people should have no other Internet experience outside perhaps a PC. If you’re really smart, you will find a way for them to purchase a compatible device at a discount.

Update 2: Works Great!

AppleTV now added! Loudness level of ads seems to be fixed. Game streaming of preseason looks great. So much better than paying for cable!

Only problem, hockey huddle

First thank yall for the ability to stream for free. The occasional software issues I know will be fixed and honestly aren’t that bad. My one gripe is the hockey huddle, is there a way to present an option just to watch the game without it, even if it is just the game audio with no commentary? Even if doing so requires a small pip of commercials or advertisements, it would a welcome trade off.

Too much commentary!

I was very excited about this app as a hockey fan. The app is very easy to download and setup. However, it would be great to offer an option to just watch the game with regular commentary. The broadcast with a podcast on the side is very distracting and takes away from the game. I know ESPN does this style with some games, but they give options to watch the traditional style broadcast as well.

Thank you. I can finally watch stars games, and Bally was the worst of the high price. I only wish casting support other than Apple products
