Thank you

I want to give a big thank you on the production and release of this app. It has helped me from being stranded on the side of the highway to being lost in the woods 10 miles out in a snow storm. I couldn’t have made it out without some help from friends and family who helped me get through those tough times. All within a share of my location from this app. I recommend anyone who’s a hard traveler or hiker to talk to reliable family or friends to get this app in case you end up from a relaxing situation to a stressful one. Location pins are fairly accurate. I’d say within 10-30 foot radius estimated.

How are people going to understand where we are?

It might not make sense how some people might not understand what this means and how this will tell them where we are, what do you expect everyone to have what3words and when you tell them they enter it in search?

Not an English

When I got the app, I started to sign up. It took my name my email address then when I went to sign up in a language, there is no English there is no American. There is no United States. There is no language languages that are dedicated to English. Every time I try to contactApple to report an issue they sent me right back to the developers website and it’s located within the app, which I cannot open. there’s something wrong with this website. And there’s something wrong with Apple what I can’t even report an issue to them without going to the developers website and you can only get there within the app. I’m waiting for developers response to this review. I will change my review when I get a response. Meanwhile the app is off my phone.

However…

How is this different from sharing my location from my iPhone with someone?

Response from developer

Hi Sheila, what3words is used for precise addressing. The location you shared on your iPhone could point to a general area whilst a what3words address will show exactly which where.

Do not use in an emergency

I had to use What3words for the first time in an emergency situation yesterday and it let us down with its inaccuracy. The police asked for a W3W location to assist Mountain Rescue find us with an injured member in our party. The first location generated by the app was inaccurate by about 3 miles, so I moved a few metres and tried again and the second location was also inaccurate by the same distance. Either the location generated by my phone or the one translated by the police was wrong, but it was totally useless. Fortunately Mountain Rescue can use another method to locate a phone and that worked perfectly, so my phone’s GPS can’t have been the problem. When I discussed the problem with Mountain Rescue after their arrival they said it happens a lot which is why they prefer not to use W3W. This level of inaccuracy could easily make the difference between a good outcome and a poor one, so my advice based on this experience is DO NOT RELY ON W3W IN AN EMERGENCY!

Fun app

Just now learning the ins and outs of what3words. Besides being very cool it is also potentially leaving in an emergency. I’ll keep plugging away at the learning until I’ve got it mastered

Dangerous

As a member of the emergency services I was sent tonight to a person who gave me their what three words location . In the next two and a half hours this location changed THREE TIMES on their app yet they had not moved!
This meant multiple agencies in a big convoy were led on a wild goose chase around the countryside until we managed to find a different way of locating the people. We even had people at night walking dangerous mountain terrain to get to the location with no one there!!! This is dangerous!
I feel so strongly, as if this person had been in a life threatening condition they may well have died by the time anyone got to them.
There are other apps who give you a grid reference that you can pass on to emergency services.
WTW you need to address this problem immediately !

Used to be good, now get constant nagging and have to skip so much just to use it

This app used to be so simple, straight forward and not intrusive. Nowadays, I get frequent notifications that I don't need, and what's worse every time I open the app after a while I now need to skip through multiple pages or steps just to get the three words. I recently had to use the app in an emergency situation and it was incredibly frustrating just to get the words and it unnecessarily delayed the process.

The app is a great idea!!

I noticed that it only mentions UK in the description and other places a lot. I think the app should be made more useable for people who live in other places ie Canada for one, USA for 2 etc etc etc…I live in Ontario, Canada & would like to see this app more geared towards being user friendly for here where I live. Thank you
