Few Glitches, otherwise a good learning tool

While doing the trial we encountered a few glitches that wouldn’t allow my child to complete an activity. It freezes a lot too. Other than that it is a good learning tool for children.

My 6 year old son loves it!

My 6 year old son who was previously giving me a very hard time with trying to want to learn to read absolutely LOVES this app. I couldn’t believe how motivated he became right away. He loves the printable certificates and they are a great source of pride for him. His desire to want to learn to read improved within days and also within days, I could see a huge improvement in his ability to recognize and sound out words. This app just clicks with my son’s personality (stubborn, independent). I immediately reached out to a friend who’s son was also struggling and recommended the app to her and she said her son loves the app as well. I first heard about RE through my homeschool group. I am forever grateful for this app, THANK YOU.

Good app but music distracting

The program has helped me in teaching my preschooler and he enjoys it. I think it’s best done together with a smaller child to help them learn as opposed to just play around with the app. I really wish you could disable the music however - please can you include this option? It’s distracting, my child says it’s too noisy and it is at times very irritating. Unfortunately if you turn the volume down you then can’t hear the voice over so you’re stuck with it. A shame for an otherwise good program but easily fixed if the developers agree to do so.

Great Learning but Flawed Tech.

I have used the Reading Eggs app with various children over a number of years so I know it to have good content that children enjoy and can enable successful learning. However, it is often let down by technical bugs that lead to frustration (not what you want with a child you’re trying to motivate to read!). This is compounded by the fact that there is no easy way of reporting persistent bugs so that they might be quickly rectified - if anything, there is only resistance or refusal from Reading Eggs’ technical team.

The app has many aspects (Reading Eggs, Reading Eggspress, Fast Phonics, MathSeeds and an extensive library are some that I’ve taken advantage of), so it offers excellent value for money. I would suggest to the developers though that the older aspects, such as Reading Eggspress, could benefit from a more mature format, with fewer repetitive noises and animated distractions (which might otherwise motivate younger users).

Altogether, although a much liked/used app, I’m fearful that it’s going to become defunct to the other more technically reliable and crisper offerings currently flooding the market - I’m not sure Reading Eggs will be able to keep up sadly :(

Excellent but back button makes it unusable

This is an excellent application and has been very educational and entertaining for my 2 year old. There is however a major issue with the back button, it is so large and prominent that my 2 year old int the beginning kept pressing it thinking it was part of the game, when she learned it wasnt and shouldlnt press it, she would regularly accidentally presses it as she was hold the ipad quite often and had to start the lesson from scratch. This is quite frustrating, she cant help pressing the button. It should be harder to press, maybe make it a smaller target with press and hold or some other way to ensure its not accidentally pressed. Please create a setting for this, it shouldn’t be that difficult otherwise she is getting quickly frustrated with the repetition and might lose interest.

Love it!! A few ideas….

Love it! I do wish the capital “I” and lower case “l” were in fonts that better differentiates the two. Also I wish that, when I place a filter in the library for age, it would “save”. Right now if I close the app and return the next day, the filter (sliding knobs for age) in the library have to be reset. The UI of those sliders are hard for my 5 year old to set (and me too!). I think they would be easier to use as a drop down. But most of all, I wish they would “hold” between uses so that my kid could have the books at her level every time she opens the library and not have to reset them.

Too Much, Not Fun

We enjoyed this app a few years ago before 2020. I downloaded and paid for it myself, then when my Son went to school in 2020 I had to pay for it again through the school - with a school ID/username. We left that school and couldn’t access the app using his school log in credentials and my Son lost all of his work. On re-downloading and subscribing again recently the entire app has changed. I find it difficult to navigate myself: it’s not simple for my Son to move around, so we canceled. He is 8 but wants to go back to the earlier games to start afresh from where he used to play. Shame because it was a fun, enjoyable educational game-app for kids; now it’s stale and over the top academic. Learning should be fun and engaging and the research that’s gone into this app has been considerably blown up and selectively chosen.
