No opt out of personalized ads / tracking
Be warned the app basically forces you to opt in to personalized ads and tracking by tossing up a screen where the only option is to choose “Continue” (not how that does NOT say OPT IN but that’s what happens if you tap it). The app is unusable until you tap Continue and there is no “No thanks” or similar. Just the one button. THEN it provides “instructions” to opt back out but the described method does not exist in your phone settings or in the app settings. Meanwhile the app has a link for you to review the company’s “ethical principles” - but clearly they have none. I’m a subscriber. I should get an app with no ads since I ALREADY PAY. 🙄

Good news, tricky subscription
I love this app. Linking my subscription to the app was cumbersome. I thought it was because I subscribed through Apple, but had the same difficulties when I subscribed through AZ Republic directly. That being said, if you want great local news, it’s worth the hassle.
App resets itself every time you turn around
Since a recent update, I’ve noticed that if you’re reading a story in the AZCentral app and then you minimize the app to check an email or take a phone call, the app restarts itself when you return. This means that you have to search for the story you were previously reading; bit of a pain.
It’s working again!
After I (a decades long subscriber) went through the AZCentral recommended steps the app was still preventing me from accessing articles. So, I deleted the app from my iPad, waited a day, then downloaded the app again. It’s fine now. Hopefully I won’t have to repeat the process for quite a while.
Response from developer
Thanks for your feedback. We’d like to better investigate your issue: Please email us at mobilesupport@gannett.com with the email you’ve subscribed with, the article you were unable to view, and any other details you may have and we’ll quickly see how we can best resolve. Much appreciated!
It’s… ok.
The opening splash screens are janky and jarring. I get periodic prompts to select the reading style I prefer, in spite of selecting ‘Don’t ask me again’.
Weird errors pop up when viewing the text of an article. Headlines sometimes repeat every character. Swiping to read next item yields random results. Just general lack of polish. Seems that whoever maintains it doesn’t use it.

Content closes if you leave the app
Sometimes you need to pop out of the app to do something else. In days past you could return to the app and pick up reading the story where you left off. Now it takes you back to the main index where you have to start over. Very frustrating. And another reason I miss a newsPAPER… 🥺 Please fix this back to how it used to be at least.

Nice to support local news, beware the notifications though
AZCentral is a great source for Arizona news. I like supporting our local news and supporting AZCentral. My complaint is about the app notifications. I always make sure to not select the sports category for app notifications as I sometimes watch the games recorded. Unfortunately if you want to have any breaking news notifications AZCentral will notify you of the outcomes of the Arizona teams. I guess I can’t have any notifications turned on for breaking news in Arizona if I don’t want the sports games spoiled for me.

Really keeps me informed
A lot of good reporting with excellent journalists. They really uncover important facts that would otherwise be hidden. This is an excellent example of what journalism should be. Very well done. I find more important information here than anywhere else even though I live in southeastern Arizona and it doesn’t cover the area I live.

It is not a conservative newspaper
Great local stories, but anything of a political nature will always have a far left leaning agenda. Between Elvia Diaz and EJ Montini they create the most biased team of opinion journalists I have seen. If I wanted that type of slanted journalism I would subscribe to the New York Times.
I mean really, did either of those two write anything positive about President Trump. No they did not. Can someone give the man credit for at least getting us the vaccine in record time. You could be living in Canada and waiting on China and India to give us a vaccine.
I can barely stomach this paper. If it wasn’t for local content I would not subscribe.

Broken app
Bought a digital subscription recently. I’m fairly good with technology... I’ve tried every troubleshooting step from clearing my cache to using native browser among other things. No matter what, this trash application does not recognize my subscription and continues logging me out. Every time it wants me to log in, the website returns an error or tells me I’m logged in but won’t return to the app. Even when I do return, it doesn’t recognize it. It appears this is not a new issue, as there are reviews from September of last year stating this is an issue. No wonder news outlets are struggling. They can’t transition with the times.
