  • Amazing, clean, accurate! So many features

I’ve had the pro version for a while, and I bought the pitch accent database and all I can say is how amazed I am with how clean and easy to use it is. The SRS makes it easy to review vocabulary daily, and the OCR works super well.

A feature I would love added in the future is a monolingual dictionary feature. It is quite a pain to switch to a separate app like my 国語辞典 one. Especially for advanced learners a monolingual dictionary would be an amazing addition.

Other than that there is nothing I would change! Props to the devs 🙏🏽

Thanks so much for the kind words! I would also love a monolingual dictionary, and it's something I've been trying to find a good data source for for a long time. I'm going to play around with using AI to generate one, but will only add it if the quality is good enough. Anyway, thanks for letting me know this is important to you!
  • Useful every day

Nihongo helps me everyday as I prepare for reading for the JLPT tests and for manga. I feel great about my knowledge of kanji but I still stumble on kanji I haven't seen in a while. Nihongo keeps my memory fresher.
  • Perfect Dictionary

Not only does this app supply every possible word used in the japanese language, its breakdowns within each kanji can make it much easier for beginners to understand the meaning of each individual kanji and their pronunciations. The fact that this app works offline too is also amazing which means you can study whilst travelling. Especially if you are in Japan, the photo feature allows for you to take a picture of an unknown piece of japanese and it will instantly translate the japanese for you and give you a large breakdown on the words as well as the particles (only available on the paid version).
Overall this app is a must have to say the least.

  • Brilliant

I've been using the Nihongo app for a while now, and it has become an indispensable tool in my Japanese language learning journey. This app deserves a full five stars for its incredible features and user-friendly interface. One standout feature of Nihongo is its "Clippings" function. It allows me to insert my own text into a file, enabling me to read along seamlessly. Whenever I get stuck on a word, I simply touch it to get the definition and see examples of the word used in sentences. This instant access to information greatly enhances my reading comprehension and makes learning more efficient. Another fantastic feature is the ability to add words to a flash deck. This is incredibly helpful for reinforcing vocabulary. The app includes pre-made flash decks for JLPT levels N5 to N1, which are perfect for structured study. The practice mode is intuitive and engaging, helping me retain new words better. Overall, Nihongo is a must-have for anyone serious about learning Japanese. It combines a robust dictionary, an interactive reading aid, and effective vocabulary practice tools all in one app. Highly recommended!

  • Best app for vocab whilst reading

Absolutely worth every penny and its so cheap! I just started reading books in Japanese and every time I use the dictionary it collates all my searches into a deck of words and then allows me to do SRS flashcard learning with them. Makes reading that much more effective in bettering my comprehension of the language.

There was a bug with one of the updates which caused the sentences to not load properly; I reported it and they fixed it immediately. 10/10 will recommend this to everyone I know who is learning Japanese.

  • Greatest Japanese Learning App

I use Nihongo Pro for Kanji, phrases, and rapid flashcard creation using the dictionary and even OCR of photos of Japanese that I come across. There are a lot of features that are great to have when you are trying to figure things out. This even has the ability to insert furigana on websites in Safari like Rikaichan!

The latest update adds helpful context using the Kanji radicals, which I am glad to see! I combine this with his Lessons app derived from Jalup sentence packs for a complete learning suite. This system does a better job of preventing you from being overwhelmed with too many reviews when you fall behind as compared to other learning tools I have tried, which is the key selling point for me honestly, since that is what makes it hard to recover using other flashcard systems where you take off a few weeks and come back to thousands of reviews due. I wish I has this app many years ago. I recommend giving the trial a go to see if this flashcard learning system works for you!

  • Perfect Companion

Fantastic companion app for learning Japanese! My only complaint is that we should be able to customize how many times we want to drill new flash cards - the default three times is a little overkill for me, and twice would be perfect.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try to add this in a future update!
  • Best app for learning Japanese

This is exactly what I was looking for. A combination of vocabulary and writing plus extra features like translation from photograps and pasting text. Excellent
  • Worth the investment

  • One of my favourite apps

honestly this is probably my favourite japanese learning app. it is super helpful when looking up a particular word it gives u soo many different examples on how to use them in sentences and how u would go about using those words in day to day conversations which is so perfect to learn with. the flash cards are also very handy especially when they auto add the words u look up into them. i’d say worth the money amd definitely worth your time if ur trying to learn🙌
