Horrific

Unnecessarily long routes, missing street names and dangerous manoeuvres at the last minute are all that I’ve experienced every time I would use the app. Even after the first few times of using it and getting poor routes displayed, I pushed through for a week as I thought it was surely an anomaly. But no, every single day I was either told to go very strange ways, street names I had to turn on or exit towards were not shown or the worst was when it recommended I use a certain exit, but it obviously didn’t have all the lane information on the highway and told me to exit the complete opposite way with no time to get to the other side of the road. The app doesn’t compare to Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps because it doesn’t even come close. Usability aside, it’s also easily the ugliest designed maps. I wouldn’t provide such a harsh review if it weren’t warranted, but unfortunately in this case, it’s very warranted and I would have no idea as to why anyone would use such an inferior navigation app.

Please follow the below points: (a) Inappropriate routes: Go to the app's menu, select TomTom Services, and turn off 'online routing'. Kill the app, disable the GPS and reboot your phone. Go to Phone Settings, General, and Transfer or Reset, tap Reset, then tap Reset Location & Privacy. Test its performance with different routes. (b) Missing street names: Do you not see any street names at all? Please share a few examples so we can quickly check. (c) Map Design: A bit more explanation will be much appreciated. (d) Are you using the app for car or truck navigation? Your insights help us ensure that the app meets and exceeds your expectations. Thanks, ^Jas

Walking and bicycle type routes no longer an option

I have been a customer since the first release on the iPhone. I have enjoyed using it over the years. Even struggled through a few upgrades. But overall it is a a top tier navigation app.

Not sure how long it has been missing. But it seems route types that allowed you to choose a walking, bicycle or transit routes is gone. I have looked for it on the app and looked online, but it seems this functionality has been removed. No longer 5 stars. Just a little disappointed because I used the walking routes when I travel.

Hi there, the latest version of GO Navigation is optimized for car and truck navigation. With our latest map technology, we can’t guarantee optimal routing for cycling and walking and therefore we have decided to remove these route types. In addition, these route types are being used less than 0.5% of the time by our current user base, however, we will share your interest with the team. Thanks. ^Jas

Failings

I have used this App for almost 10 years and have been very impressed.
Am in Europe at the moment and the App frequently will not search a destination. Just says ‘ No route available’. Also the audio voice will not work. I have all the instructions to correct these issues to no avail.
I cannot get a response from anybody to help me so am very frustrated and looking for an alternative App.

Great Brand Bugs Are an issue

I took a 12 month subscription and really wanted to like it. Unfortunately I have now deleted it and gone back to Google Maps. There are bugs with the search function when compared to Google - places I find on Google don't come up on Tom Tom. It freezes when connected to Apple Play. The only way to unfreeze is to open up my phone, which I cannot do whilst driving. I also struggled checking the distance between two locations if I wasn't in one of the locations, and I struggled trying to find a way to measure time and distance if walking?

Hi there, appreciate for sharing your expeience and apologies for the trouble. Address Search: Please check if the rquired map zones are downloaded, refer to this link, https://bit.ly/3Vr7Xii. Also, open the app's menu, TomTom Services, and disable 'online search' and check again. App freezing on CarPlay: Go to Settings, General, CarPlay on your iPhone, select your car, and tap “Forget This Car". Please check of there are any pending updates for CarPlay and iPhone. Reboot bot the devices (iPhone and car). Reconnect the phone and check again. If there is no change, please check the navigation arrow colour (Grey or Blue) and let us know. Distance between two locations: Do you man to say both the location inculded on a planned route? Please explain a bit more. Walking Route: The app is optimized for car and truck navigation. With our latest map technology, we can’t guarantee optimal routing for cycling and walking, and therefore we have decided to remove the same. In addition, less than 0.5% of the customers used these route types. Thanks. ^Jas

C’est quoi cette version de m….

Depuis la dernière mise à jour, pu moyen de mettre une destination en mode “favoris”, faire une recherche pour une destination dans nos contacts est maintenant introuvable dans la section “Recherche”. Alors on est revenu comme dans l’temps des boussoles….

don't buy this. it's terrible

DO NIT BUY THIS.
it is terrible. i bought this navigation for truck. i spent 150$ and all for nothing. this navigation is terrible for USA and Canada. this navigation gives wrong route. this navigation constantly leads to prohibition signs for truck and under low bridges.
i demanded my money back in a week and i was refused with a refund.
i wasted money. i wrote to support and no one answered me.

Routes manquantes région de Portneuf

Il manque des routes dans la région de Portneuf. De plus les numéros de sortie sur les autoroutes ne sont pas toujours indiqué visuellement. J’aurais aimé aussi avoir d’avance le numéro de la sortie.
Avec Waze j’ai toute cette information et c’est gratuit et pas besoins de télécharger les cartes d’avance…

Uniquely Poised to Unseat Google Maps…

…and therefore a missed opportunity. If I’m paying a monthly subscription, the LEAST this app can do is provide satellite view and push notifications, the two things Google Maps actually does right. That said, it remains the only app this good to offer a genuine “Shortest Route” option (as opposed to the “Fastest Route” option exclusively favored by the basic normie apps this one is competing with, which is only useful because I married someone with no taste for interesting routes and long drives), so I am happy to pay for a subscription… at least until the world gets back on track and apps in general stop being curses more than tools.

Great routing algorithm. Terrible data points and a terrible reporter tool

Customer support told me to use the Tomtom map share report tool to report problems. I have to resubmit pictures many times to get them to fix when I took good pictures. I even sent them screenshots of Google Maps and Open Maps when they had the right data to get them to fix Tomtom.

Whoever is responsible for the Tomtom Mapshare tool is very lazy and doesn't look up new changes to roads when they are reported in Mapshare when they can be easily verified on other platforms and government websites.

This company wants to take people's subscription money and not keep up to date with big cities that change road rules often like NYC. Don't use this software in NYC unless you want to get tickets for making wrong turns on the wrong road or be directed to a road that has been closed down for months. Also when there is a blocked road it doesn't get easily reported like in Waze. They even have a truck subscription I would never trust that if they can’t even keep up with car road rules.

Perfect. Best nav available. Except one important flaw.

I use this great navigator all over USA, Europe and even Russia. Works great everywhere except Boston MA. Boston has many very complex intersections and road configurations. I think other cities must have also but Boston is the most complex I have ever driven. My 26 year old daughter who lives in Boston finds it as difficult as I do. This results in missed turns or making the wrong choice in a multiple choice situation. The cause is two fold. First there are many - very many - intersections on the map that are just not laid out the way shown. Not totally wrong but enough so that it is confusing to choose the correct road. There are three places that are completely wrong and in two of them the wrong choice will send you miles and miles away until I can correct. Second flaw is that in these situations the graphic route lines are too wide to really define the correct choice precisely. I give this app a five because it is light years better than anything except Google Maps which my daughter now uses. But Google does not have the superb route side bar and other important features. You can download the latest maps internationally. I know. Trust this app. Just wish they had more attention to difficult nav situations in dense urban areas with the profile of Boston. Which is unique in difficulty on my experience.
