Nearly unusable in China

The only reason I purchased this service is to be able to access Google, twitter… in China. But ever since I came to China, the total amount of time this vpn working properly was less than a handful of hours. For the majority of time, it either was completely unconnectable, or that it repeatedly showed successful connection and then dropped the connection within a few seconds. And during those short lived “connections” I still couldn’t access any foreign websites. Not to mention that even when the connection was fortunately and stably established, the speed was still very slow.

And the funny thing about Express’ problem-solving support is that you need to first be able to bypass GFW before you could reach them. So my problem was never resolved.

Totally a waste of money. Glad I only bought one year of service.

iPhone update nightmare

Every time there is an update for my iPhone the ExprssVPN app will not update properly. I’ve checked everything. When starting update via app store it completely blocks my vpn access even while trying to update their app. I have to delete the app entirely reboot my phone redownload the app with its latest update, resign on and double check settings that I have. I also found it to have changed my settings within the app on different occasions, leaking my ip address. It’s happened on my iPad in the past which is older than my phone but now iPad seems to handle the updates so far but the iPhone I still I have to go through this whole process. I have to make sure I update any other app updates first because I know trying to update ExpressVPN is going to jam my system up til I go through the process as described above. I’ve now loaded another vpn that updates seamlessly and doesn’t randomly change my settings. It lets me multi switch but Express vpn has the issues with the iPhone even before the other vpn was added. I cringe every time I see Express vpn has an update because the process I know I’m in for. So I use the other VPN til I can go through all that other nonsense when I have avail time. It’s a real pain. Multi switching worked its issues out between VPNs but I found again at times after an update express vpn would leak ip while other vpn would not. So two major issues.

Updates issues - takes so long

Express VPN updates take such a long time to complete - I have iphone 13 Pro (with wifi & data on). You seem to have many more ‘updates’ than most apps - like every week or so - the time it takes to wait and complete an update is well out of order. 10-15 mins and update not progressing (checking also that no other update is occurring at that time). This has happened many times over last 6 months. All other App upgrades proceed normally. I have been using this app for several years and think highly of it - please fix the update delay - as mentioned all other apps proceed normally.

Update problem

Theres an update and each time I try to update it continuously says ‘waiting’. I have to restart my phone to be able to use it. It freezes my phone. Never happened before and I’ve always found the app to be very good. What’s up? Since writing this I have done what they advised, which was to delete the app and start again. I changed to a new iphone 15 too. It didn’t work. There is a new update but when I try to download and install I get the same spinning wheel and then I can’t use my VPN unless I restart the phone. Then it has not updated. It’s has also been disconnection much more than before. I am seriously and sadly thinking of ending my time at ExpressVPN. I can’t be paying for something that is becoming a nuisance.

Bad connection, very poor service.

I had trouble switching between my home wifi and my cellular network whenever this VPN was active. I had to re set every now and then. Had trouble with opening many apps such as Netflix.
I was greatly disappointed as I was disconnected all of a sudden and their reasons was they couldn’t verify my billing address which was never asked in the first place and every other provider sends the bill to the email. I think this was because I luckily got a cheaper deal at $99 for first 15 months. It took them 5 days to respond and come to conclusion. I got my money back but was charged $5 for I don’t know what!!
Overall I would never recommend this to any one. There is far more better VPN providers out there with better service. With this one you can only connect upto 8 devices but other providers has upto 10 device connection.

It doesn’t work in China

I should have read reviews before I purchased to use in China, otherwise I wouldn’t purchase it at all,so many reviews indicated it doesn’t work and it’s the same for me when I was in China, not at all and it’s very frustrating, logged ticket via APP but couldn’t check my Gmail for their reply because this VPN didn’t work, I have also tried all their provided instructions to make it work but it didn’t, Don’t recommend to purchase to use in China.

DONT BUY FOR CHINA

I’m in China for a month and I’ve gotten it to work a handful of times. Connecting is like playing the lottery. Most times you’re just staring at the screen. The app is deceptive, it will “connect” right away, but not actually connect. When I lived in China 5 years ago ExpressVPN worked well so I bought it again for this trip.

When I contacted support I got some canned line about how they are facing “unprecedented difficulties connecting users.”

I’m giving 2 stars instead of one because it has worked a few times, so credit where it’s due, but it doesn’t last long.

Completely useless

It can not be used in China, Frequently disconnected and very difficult to make connection. Waste of money

Not good for live coverage

Works but extremely slow on live coverage - only loads bad quality and stops to load constantly. Wouldn’t recommend for this purpose.

Fine for online shopping etc but does often stop so you have to disconnect and reconnect often. This is across various devices.
