  • Just the right news in the right time

Espresso provides me just the right mix of world news updates and ideas to consider over my morning’s first coffee. Exactly what I was looking for in online briefing.
  • Start your day with a world view!

Less than five minutes and you will be brought up to speed as well as learn about a place you may not know well. With links to long form articles it is as indispensable as coffee each morning.
  • All hail economist

Articles are well researched and balanced with links to more in depth articles. A welcome respite from the news blather of the trump era. Kept me sane. And I love the quote of the day.

Complaints. (1)Sometimes with breaking news the North American version publishes late. I read at breakfast. (2) I know your photos are copyrited , but occasionally I’d like to copy them to my photos, this is not straightforward on an iPhone.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Excellent News Pick-Me-Up Source

The Economist Expresso provides shots of today’s news and information to help you get a good feel of what’s going on around the world. I can quickly read it and eventually dive further into a particular topic later. Great news source!
  • Great content, no notifications

For news readers seeking a global perspective, this app has excellent content. The layout is easy to read, and a widget is available to review top headlines at a glance. If there was a way to receive notifications for when the app was updated with unread stories, I would give it 5/5 stars. A good example of a news app with notifications is the Tech Top 10 by The Information.

  • Good but please allow larger text!

As you would expect from The Economist, the writing is excellent. The app itself is well designed and refreshingly simple. My only issue is that the largest text size you can select in settings is still rather small. It would be great to have the option to increase it further. Aside from that, this would be a five star app.

  • Content is fine, IF you ever receive it

I’ve always loved the Economist and have read the print version religiously for over thirty years. But their apps (and their subscriptions department) are truly terrible. This app will refresh only about 70% of the time. Every third day, good luck getting the news. It’s also the only app on my phone that regularly crashes. On my phone it looks fine, on my iPad it doesn’t expand to fill the whole screen (it’s “iPhone-sized” but in an iPad screen). The app won’t rotate from vertical to horizontal, even if Screen Aspect is unlocked. Finally, there are different versions floating around in the App Store, so you have to be careful about which one you are getting. My advice: stick to the print edition. (IF it ever shows up on the front doorstep, it’s a great read!)

  • Great content, data update and caching needs improvement

The content is great, love to be able to read all the essentials in a couple minutes. But it loads slowly, and consistently times out on low bandwidth, which makes it hard to use when travelling abroad with slow internet. Also shouldnt try to fetch data every time unless a new version of the news has been published for that day.

    Update:
Now its draining battery extremely fast with background activity even when its not used.

  • Beyond Brexit. What’s touching my fellow global citizens lives?

Theresa May coined it “Citizen’s of nowhere”. Then Espresso is the caffeine antidote to this misguided label. We are all stakeholder citizens of this amazing planet which is subjugated by less than amazing human behaviour. Espresso tells me about the amazing and the less amazing from all corners of the Earth. Who’s telling me about what is going on in Brunei? That they’ve decided that Stoning gay people to death is an acceptable part of their justice system and an acceptable approach to human rights in this 21st century.

  • Nice little news bites

Does just what it says on the tin - 95% of the time. It’d be good if day editions were stored or saved locally by default, or at least give the option to do this for places where immobile connections aren’t great. Also some UI quirks and inconsistencies from time to time.
