  • Great!!

I used it when I first had my son in 2021 who was in Nicu and I had to track everything to a T. However I never got my pump connected, so just manually entered everything since I used a hospital pump and a hands free as well but still tracked. I still have all my info from that as well which is nice to look back on.
A couple months ago my soon to be ex-husband and I separated and are now going through a heated custody battle. I have had to start the pumping game again and this time I’m only using me sonata pump but it still wasn’t available for Bluetooth despite the advertising. So I went online and the saw they still sell and advertise the Sonata as being Bluetooth compatible. I contacted customer service and an update came out or they gave me access and I now can connect which is helpful while dealing with a toddler and pumping. 10/10 would recommend Medela in general! Of course the hospital grade pump is the best but my Sonata is a close second.

  • So buggy

This is the worst app I’ve ever used and for such an expensive product, it’s so frustrating. With the latest update I was glad to see the new widget feature for pumping. However now the app often stores duplicate sessions which throws off my tracking, and often even after saving a session there’s still often a duplicate widget running that will absolutely not go away no matter how many times I stop the session or even restart my phone. Like others have said too, often the app will randomly populate incorrect dates, times, and even amounts after I start logging a new session. This is both for manual and Bluetooth. I have to constantly recheck what I’m tracking to ensure I’m capturing accurate information. Also, when looking at the “past 7 days” option under the dashboard, the dates are not even shown in order. I do not understand the structure or function of this app. The only reason I still use it is because I’ve already got so much info logged, and my hands free Bluetooth pump is already set up. Otherwise I know I have to do more work to get around the bugs of this app.

  • Bugs!!!

When i first started using this app early this year it was great! It was a fantastic way to keep track of my son’s feedings, diapers, weight gain, etc, as well as pumping. But, I think sometime during the summer, it started to get buggy. Sometimes it would freeze when I’d try to save a feeding or nap, so I’d have to restart the app and whatever I was trying to save would be gone completely. Then it got more and more frequent. Now it’s a daily occurrence, as well as the buttons for left or right for breastfeeding sometimes “stick”. As in I’ll press and press and it won’t do anything then it’ll do it after a second then register again to turn it off and on and off, etc. It’s so frustrating. Also in the past few days it’s been lagging more while it’s trying to load the main page. Today it got to the point that i had to restart the app many times before it would even work. I know the app updated at some point in the last few months but it didn’t seem to help anything. Things just seemed to get worse. I’m going to check again for an update today. Maybe I missed the latest update that may have fixed some of these problems.

I’m just so tired of having to fight this thing to the point that I’ve been toying with the idea of trying to find a less buggy app for this. But I really don’t want to because I have all of my son’s progress on here. I’d be really sad to lose it all…

Hi KatMillan, we are sorry you're having issues with our app. Our Cloud infrastructure had some unexpected downtimes 2 days ago, but usually our servers availability is excellent. Microsoft generally guarantees 99.5% which is state of the art for cloud services. In case your app is not back working today, please uninstall and reinstall it. • it needs improvement

i love the features of this app but it’s so slow to load and glitches constantly. i’ve used this app with all three of my kids and it seems it just goes more and more downhill as the years go by. when i try and open the app it takes 2+ minutes for it to load, there are times when i press the L or R shortcut for breastfeeding it will take me to register a new baby, then there are times where i need to check my stats and it glitches and doesn’t show me correct numbers or it takes forever to load, and a new glitch is when i’m going back to the app to save a feeding it’ll glitch out and restart a whole breastfeeding log. it jumps to the current time and then i have to guesstimate when i started feeding and for how long. it’s getting really old and if these problems persist i’m going to find another app to track feedings etc. please fix these issues! i want to love this app again but it’s just becoming more and more frustrating to use

  • Unbelievably terrible

You would think Medela would have their app together considering they are one of the leaders in the industry. Makes me regret buying their pump TBH.
    1. I could not get around the “add your phone number” pop up when setting up the app. The screen froze 500 times. I had to delete the entire app and re download it. Then got to the same screen and had to input my phone number before proceeding. I should not have to give my phone number to proceed. I already created an account- isn’t that enough?
    2. The app and the pump thinks that the year is 1986?????? This wouldn’t be a problem except you cannot input the correct date- you can only click through EVERY SINGLE MONTH to get to the correct year which is IMPOSSIBLE.
    3. Last night I deleted 3 “1 minute pump sessions” which were just accidental turn ons of the pump. This morning I log into the app and they are still there.
    4. The final nail in the coffin was when I just had a pumping session and it didn’t record the session. During the session the app SHOWED that I was pumping. I even saw that I was at 16 minutes at the bottom of it tracking. When I finished and went into the app to record the amount I pumped- POOF! Gone. Zero record of the pump session.
    5. When I tried to “manually record” it’s a disaster filled with bugs. Screen goes totally black, can’t fill in the dates or times or duration, and again with the app thinking it’s 50 years ago?????

Hello Britt me, sorry to hear you are having trouble with our app! About your issues: 1. Please contact the official app tech support to get your problem solved intappsupport@medela.com 2. Sessions are saved in wrong date when pumping with very low battery or when the battery dies during a pumping session. Please avoid pumping with low battery. 3. The pump has an internal memory of ~30 pumping sessions, you need to overwrite the old sessions with new sessions. 4. -When you stop a session on the Sonata you have to long press the Start/Stop button on the pump. Only after you long press the Start/Stop button, the pump sends the session data to the app. Then you will see the save button inside the app. -When you stop a session on the Freestyle Flex, if you want to finish the session you have to long press the Power button on the pump. Only after you long pressing the Power button, the pump sends the session data to the app. Then you will see the save button inside the app. -When you stop a session on the Swing Maxi, if you want to finish the session you have to long press the Power button on the pump. Only after you long pressing the Power button, the pump sends the session data to the app. Then you will see the save button inside the app. If you don't press the SAVE button the session is not saved! 5. Could you please send a screenrecording video to intappsupport@medela.com to troubleshoot?
  • Good app when working correctly

This app is quite helpful… when it is working correctly. I use it to mostly track breastfeeding times and sides as well as pumping time. I used the tracker for wet and dirty diapers when my son was first born. All essential and made easier with the app. I used this app 5 years ago with my first child and made sure to download the same one this time around because I liked it so much back then.
However, this does not feel like the same app I used 5 years ago. It has obviously been updated, but not for the better in my opinion. The tracker is very glitchy with both number of minutes nursing as well as what time the tracking began. A common problem almost daily is when I go to track my next nursing session, leave the app to go to another app, and come back to it only to have found that it jumps back to the last nursing session start time. Example: I just started a little after 5am, but I checked back and it has my start time as 9:48pm from last night. It also sometimes stops the timer when I leave the app, so I will come back thinking 15 minutes have passed and it is still stuck at only a few seconds.

  • Good app. Not perfect. Still suggest.

I’ve been using this app for 6 weeks. I can’t imagine breastfeeding without it. I don’t have to think about the time too much, it tracks it all for me. This is extra nice in the night when I’m groggy and can’t remember which side to nurse. When baby gets fussy, I check the app to see when I last fed or diapered and go from there. I haven’t tracked naps on the app, because that just seems stressful when he’s not on a schedule yet. But I probably will as we work towards one.

    Things that could be better:
    1. I do wish that it wouldn’t round the hours. For example, once it’s 1.5 hours from the last entry, it automatically rounds to 2.
    2. I just started pumping. I haven’t paired with my pump yet because I’m currently just using the Haaka. I do wish that it would allow entries for mL instead of just ounces.

The app can be kind of glitchy.
    1. There have been multiple times where I go back to press “pause” on a session, to realize that the timer was ticking, but had apparently gotten stuck at the time I closed the app. So then I have to calculate it on my own and enter the time. This is rare.
    2. I am a data nerd. So I like the summary on the dashboard. However, sometimes it just appears blank. And by sometimes, I mean 7/10 times I try to check it. Not a huge deal, just annoying.

Hi MamaPage21, thank you for your feedback! We are happy you like using our app. Regarding some of the issues you mentioned: - you can easily change ounces to ml by going to More - General app settings - Measurements and selecting Metric instead of Standard Regarding the glitches, please feel free to send us an email at intappsupport@medela.com attaching a video of your issue so our development team can analyze it. • Really great tracking app, can be a little glitchy

This app has been a lifesaver for my husband and I to track when we last fed/diapered our little one, but sometimes it struggles to keep the data up to date with having two people logged in to the same account, and sometimes it takes a couple tries to make sure it logged something.
The virtual milk storage is great for quantity, but there's not a lot of versatility to move milk from tray to tray once frozen, so while I've been trying to figure out what my freezer system will be, I'm married to wherever I put them in the beginning which can be a little cumbersome but still useful to know how much we have in storage and when it will expire.
The functionality I desperately want though is the ability to have a widget or for the session of breastfeeding to appear on the lock screen so there's less phone fumbling time when I'm trying to balance kiddo. A reach but still something what would be amazing would be a setting for pumping that allows you to set the time you want to pump and it counts down rather than up so you get a notification when you're done. This would have been especially helpful when building my milk supply!
Still way better than paper tracking!

  • Want to really like it but don’t

I purchased a Medela pump so this app was the easiest to download for tracking feedings (bottle, breastfeeding) and pumping. But there are often glitches that make the UX obnoxious. Select breastfeeding will randomly prompt me to add a new child to the app, the times will change randomly then I will need to find them within the data (always a time within the trailing 48 hours?), or the sides when breastfeeding won’t save correctly. There’s no rhyme or reason - it is just a super buggy app. I also hate that my husband can’t log in separately on his phone with the same profile. This would be an incredibly advantageous thing across multiple caretakers for a child.
