  • Amazing fun except...

As other reviews of this version have said: the game crashes when starting the Jipang cave boss fight. Cannot progress until fixed :(
  • Fantastic, however???

Loving the game, can't recommend it enough, however the game keeps crashing in cave next to Jipang when boss battle is initiated. Please fix asap. Playing on iPhone 6s.
  • Broken on iPad Air 2

Crashes from various different combinations of actions. SE is unable to help. Crashes at Orochi 1 battle, crashes when selling garter, crashes when transferring hardwood headwear to another character's slot, crashes when trying to sell hardwood headwear. iOS 9 and 10 this happens. SE says to reinstall but it doesn't work. Tried multiple different ways only to have same crashes. Some sort of incompatibility with the latest hardware and OS.

Support is poor. If you have an older device it may still work as it worked fine on my older iPad 2.

  • A gem

This being the first version of DQ3 I have ever played, I can certainly see why it is so revered among dragon quest fans. Its character creation system is brilliantly implemented and certainly adds to the game's overall charm. The visuals are much more pleasing to the eye than the previous two of the trilogy and the entire experience just feels more lively and full of zest. Having played all the mainline titles in the series (barring DQ10), I can certainly recommend this to any RPG fan, whether you've played other titles in the series or not.

  • One of the best RPGs ever made, now even better!

In many ways Dragon Quest 3 is the 'true' JRPG experience. Many games like Final Fantasy were heavily inspired by Dragon Quest and it remains the most popular gaming series in Japan. Dragon Quest 3 was the first game to perfect the DQ formula, with fully customisable party members, a range of classes and tons of equipment, a large world to explore, dungeons, towns, bosses and more.

This version is based on the Japanese Super Famicom (SNES) version, which is the prettiest and most balanced release. It also features an all new English translation, in line with the more recent western releases of the DQ games (all of which are now on the App Store). The story and characters are charming and cheerful, and make for a fun and unpretentious game that's suitable for all ages. Don't think this is a kids game though - this is old school challenging and not for the faint hearted!

All in all a bargain price for an all time great RPG, and it works beautifully on iOS. Highly recommended.

  • Hate the childish translation

This was one of my favorite NES games. The gameplay is fine and the graphical update I can tolerate though I find unnecessary. What consistently bothered me was the silly translations of spells, items, and monster names. I wanted to relive the NES game not see everything replaced with very dumb sounding new names. Plus I had to constantly consult guides to see what was what.

Most people wouldn't care about this, especially if you've never played the original. The game itself is fine, plays well, and an utter classic.

  • It could've been better.

I don't know whether this is better than the retranslated version for the snes. Why?. Well here's the comparison. The translated version had the pachisi track and monsters can actually move (attack). However this has much better English, graphics and music. It would be better if you add the pachisi tracks and make monsters move while attacking or casting a spell. But still though a great game. Good luck for the rest of the dragon quest series.

  • Terrific Port

Not my favorite DQ game, per se, but s great port and an excellent iOS game.
  • A few things missing... but still wonderful.

I've played and beaten this game on three different platforms, so to have it on my iPhone/iPad is a thrill.

That said, I hope future releases of this game include the Pachisi tracks. I really enjoyed this part of the original game, and was very disappointed to find they were omitted. Next - the Monster Medals and bonus dungeon. I was really disappointed to find that those were also omitted from this version.

The only other thing I would have liked to see here are descriptions of the items. It has been years since I played the game so I didn't recall what some of the things were. It would have been really helpful to have that information in the ITEMS menu.

The game is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The music is fantastic. The gameplay is incredible. I still give this game five stars! One of the best ever.

  • :-D

I played this old school on the NES back in the day, I second the other reviewer that called this "flawless." Remakes can be iffy, but this has everything we love plus extra. The music hasn't changed either just been processed better, so the great Castle theme played and my blood pressure went way down. And being able to have it with me on the go is such a great thing that I have no words. SE you've always got a fan in me.
