Your New Subscription System Is Absurd
*Update* since I’ve gotten a disappointing reply from you: when I create a new place that other users can then find by entering the address, providing the name and updating pictures, I would absolutely call that feeding data. It’s very disingenuous and a bit demeaning of you to say that I’m only benefitting from the data you’re providing. Getting revenue from your hard work is not in itself disrespectful. However, forcing an unannounced £50 annual subscription without any prior communication or warning in order to keep using your app is. Considering the price tag, I think you’re widely over-evaluating your app’s stickiness and usefulness. It’s a real shame considering how many people I’ve turned to in the past to say: “hey, have you heard of Mapstr?”
Response from developer
Hello! To answer your update: when you create a place providing its name and address you’re feeding your map, but not our data, as we don’t use this information for privacy reasons. Try searching for it after you’ve created it and you’ll see we don’t use any of your data. So no you don’t feed us. Again I understand the frustration of having to pay, but I wanted to make it clear. — You haven’t feed any data, you haveused our data to bookmark your favorite places. All the edit you have done is only on your map, not in our systems…. I understand the frustration, but no it’s not disrespectful to try to get some revenue to work on this app that is so useful to you.
