Costs not made clear for new users - should be up front

Actual cost for a useable account is 9gbp per month. This should have made clear up front before I wasted my time using the app until 20 entries were made….

Excellent

Have been using it for my business and it’s 100% recommended. Auto tracking feature is very helpful.

Hello and thank you for your rating and review! We're glad to hear you find automatic tracking convenient and easy-to-use. If you have any additional feedback or questions, feel free to reach out to us at support@driversnote.com. Happy tracking! Best regards Kristian

NOT FREE

Nothing in the item description or the app indicates, at first, that a paid subscription is required to take full advantage of the mileage logs. After doing 20+ mileage logs in ~4 days, I received an email that I will have to pay $9.50 a month to make more logs per month.

Incredibly deceptive.

Edit: After receiving a response from the developer I’d like to reiterate that not a single line of the app description indicates that a paid subscription is required to use this app indefinitely for mileage tracking. In addition, the app is listed as having no in-app purchases. I selected this app specifically because I didn’t want to pay for a subscription.

Background tracking when not in use

I am a fan of this app, having recently started using it. It’s easy to use and nicely laid out. It has simplified the process of tracking my kilometres and it’ll definitely help immensely during my next tax return.

I’ve tasted the app 4 stars as I have received several notifications of the app tracking/using my location in the background while it is not in use.

As an example, I used Drivers Note on Thursday to track a few trips at work. I didn’t use the app over the next 3 days (Sunday). Upon unlocking my phone today iOS sent me a warning to let my know that the app had used my precise location 20 times over the last few days.

Unfortunately changing the app’s privacy settings so that it only uses my location while the app is in use has completely broken the ability to track a trip. Instead I’m greeted with constant nag screens to re-enable permanent access to GPS, even while the app is not in use.

Even if there are no nefarious marketing reasons for permanent GPS, it’s still silly to waste precious battery on constantly using GPS.

I hope the devs resolve this issue soon.

Hi and thanks for your review! We really appreciate that you took the time and great to have your feedback. We are constantly working on new ways to improve the GPS tracking and with auto track on you the app will detect when you move at a certain speed and start tracking. If you use an iBeacon it will only track when the phone detects it nearby and you can also set your working times to only tracking within the work hours that you set. You can read more about the iBeacon here, https://www.driversnote.com.au/ibeacon If you have any questions or feedback please reach out to us at support@driversnote.com so we can help you get the best tracking experience possible. Best regards Kristian

LOVE IT!

I really truly love this app. I am a Doordash driver and are use this every day that I dash
It tracks your miles so well both virtually with the green line and also numerically. I especially like how you can do reports on your mileage and it figures up the amount of reimbursement by the tax allowedMileage reimbursement that you would use in your own particular state. It is worth it’s weight in gold.

Good app, needs to lighten up on the watchdog effect though.

Works great for tracking mileage and formatting reports. The fact it “NEEDS” to constantly use my phones location is slightly unnerving. All my other location type apps are set to “while using” so why is it this one won’t follow the same rule, and it won’t work unless you set it to “always” allow location. Also the emails telling me to set location to always so I won’t “forget to record a trip”, just too invasive for my liking. Like an ex-girlfriend that constantly stalks you, just creepy.

Avoid this app - hold your data hostage

I recently switched from Droid to iPhone and saw this highly rated app. The software is pretty good, a bit clunky in spots, but not bad. What was not clear is that after 20 trips THEY HOLD YOUR INFORMATION HOSTAGE UNTIL YOU AGREE TO PAY THEM $10 A MONTH! Yes, and to top it off a trip - say to the store and back - COUNTS AS 2 TRIPS! So you drive to see a client and back - 2 trips! You go over 20 they warn you...then when you go to do your expense report they block out the information after 20 trips. Cannot believe they strongarm people like this....unethical! Oh - and to top it off - in order to track a trip with your GPS it requires you PERMANENTLY give them access to your GPS....so I think they track their users on top of that. Best to go with another app.

I'm sorry that you've had this experience. We do list the free and paid options everywhere we are allowed to, including our website, emails when you sign up, and in response to reviews. The app tracks separate trips when you stop (e.g. going to the store is one trip, going home from the store is a separate trip) in order to ensure a full and clear logbook for your reimbursement and deductions. The reason the app requires Location "Always" on is because with the other options, any time the app is not on your screen and working in the background, iOS considers you're not using the app anymore and tracking stops. We do not track our users and only use the location permission on "Always" to correctly track trips when the app is being used. If there's anything we can help you with, please get in touch with us at support@driversnote.com. Best regards, Kate

Using Driversnote

This is the best system I have used ever. After 30 plus years of traveling to a five state area and recording mileage each day I don’t have to do that the app is always on ready to start recording mileage each time I start driving. The hardest part is putting in whether it is business or personal. All it takes is open up tracker and touch either personal or business. If you forget you can go back in and change after trip is over. I have used Driversnote for about a two years and wouldn’t change. Phil Bentley

Snooped in my data

Initially I was enthusiastic about the app. But I don’t want to track every single mile I drive. It repeatedly complains if you don’t let it track your location ALL THE TIME. Then, if you don’t happen to use it for a few days, they dig into your data and contact you with your last trip and pester you about not using the app all the time. Ultimately, it feels very unsafe. I’ll pay $7 for my privacy. If it’s free, then YOU are the price of the app. Deleted.

Give you ANOTHER try??!? You’ve already violated my trust, and I don’t care to offer you the opportunity to violate my trust again... which you will. My $7 replacement app purchase doesn’t store ANY of my data on their servers. Peace of mind (overall) can be less expensive than free.
