Amazing writing app and support

I emailed the developer for some support and got a very quick indepth reply, this app is kind on the eyes and perfect for writing books, journals or anything else! i would highly highly recommend!!!

Perfect Alternative

As a longtime Windows user, through to coming into MacOS last year, I still managed to struggle with adjustments between Word and Pages. Especially as I had come from a heavy Governmental writing environment, into full-time remote study.

Excuse the copy-paste for both apps, but the broad points apply to both Reader and Author.

But the minimalist approach to these apps is beautiful. Removing all 'distractions' from the UI for someone like myself.

For Author: I don't need access to line/page breaks or formatting at any time I want, I just need to put things on 'paper'. Highly recommend as a tool to encourage thought and provide a space to dump and connect.

For Reader: the addition of an AI assistant to help skim through repeated material, or summarise what you've read prior, is an amazing tool for study and is in it's simplest form to not detract from the user experience.

I find myself using Author more and more...

I do find myself opening up Author, more and more, as second-nature now. The way I can map concepts and plug-and-play my articles according to those concepts (once i've made sure they connect and flow tight) is the number one reason I come back to this app.

I often get too impressed with my ideas and, as a result, struggle to deliver the impact and the message I want to get across. That's become less of a problem with Author.

My only 5-star want would be that the app handles images a little more intuitively. It's fundamentally a writing app so I understand image-handling is not a priority.

Thank you for your kind review! I do hope we'll be able to work on images soon. Our plans are initially for further text improvements, but we will not neglect image improvements.

Fantastic tool for thinking and producing documents

Really great tool for thinking and producing gorgeous documents. I particularly like the Concept Map and glossary tool. I look forward to seeing how these functions and Author in general evolves. Thank you also to the Developers for being so responsive to queries and questions. Definitely recommend.

Intuitive, comprehensive and efficient

I've been working with this every day since purchasing.

I have not found another app that comes close to this. Reader and Liquid are exceptional and back Author up to make it an excellent research tool. I'm sure it has flaws, and I remember thinking of one when I was working on a project. But I'm guessing it was my lack of familiarity with the app. I've since forgotten what it might have been.

Behind the scenes...

My own needs as a writer on the Mac platform are fairly minimalist. NOTES almost gives me enough, but I tend to hit a wall of frustration. This app is just what I need in terms of a platform that not only facilitates the laying down of the text, but also supports a process of structural plotting that in the past I might have conducted offline, away from the view of my audience.

Worst App Ever

Doesn't do any of the things it says it will, no trial period so you can't even see that it doesn't do what it says. Oh and even though you pay for this ap they put you on an email list that is relentless and impossible to get off because the unsubscribe function doesn't work. Stay away!

Hi, as I replied to in your email, please tell us what email list are you referring to, I have only emailed in reply to your question. There is a free version, called 'Liquid | Basic' and I'm sorry it was not listed clearly for you to find. Please request a refund from the App Store, which will be processed automatically. Please also tell me which functions it does not work for you.

Wonderful

This app is great for writers who want a blank screen to focus on writing. But I also want to mention the admin. Recently my computer crashed and all my open files went blank including months of writings I had on Author (I know I know I should back them up). I emailed the admins of the app and they immediantly responded and told me how to recover my files. I can't describe how happy I was to find my writings. I recommend this app 10/10.

Love this app but wish it worked on my iPad

I love this app. Very intuitive and easy to use after putting in a little time to explore and watch the video. My only quibble is that I do a lot of writing on my iPad when I am out and about. Wish Author worked on iOS.

Worst UI ever, no onscreen guidance or cues at all

I have all three of this company's products, Author, Liquid and Reader, and I've watched the developer videos. I can't find a way to get any value out of any of the three. Lots of blank screens to start any task, usually defaulting into one of many "modes"--like, say, map or write, but there are no cues as to how to start, no templates, and overall list of the other modes that are supposed to be accessible, for example bringing in an excerpt from a pdf document and citation. I see positive reviews, but not all that many. This suggests that the very nice and thoughtful developer has a small following, but this product is not at all ready to "cross the chasm" to more mainstream users. By the way I'm not a nube, and if I can't figure this out--and I have tried and tried, I wonder if there are perhaps thousands of people like me who try this and give up. I work in technology research, am a part-time scholar with a doctorate.

Hi, and I'm sorry you had a bad experience. If you could please email me at hello@augmentedtext.info with suggestions as to what kind of templates you would find useful we can look into that. Yes, Author does give you a blank page but so far, since Author is not about page layout, it's about writing, we have not found a reason for a template. I would also be more than happy to meet you on Zoom at the time of your choosing to give you a very interactive demo to see if that helps you understand the software and us better understand you as a user.
