  • Lies, lies, and more lies

Shipt delivers for Target and I have placed same-day delivery orders using both the Shipt app and the Target app. Yesterday I placed an order using the Target app for a Simplehuman trash can with a delivery window of between 4:00 and 5:00 that afternoon. According to the Shipt tracking info, the item was picked up by the shopper early enough to give her ample time to deliver it within the one hour window. After 5:00 came and went with no communication from the shopper, I texted her and asked about the delay. She did not reply, so I called Target. Target put me on hold and called Shipt. Shipt falsely claimed that the shopper still hadn’t shopped the order. Within a minute the shopper texted me and explained that she had my order but was busy shopping for someone else. By 6:30 with no delivery in sight I called Target again and canceled the order. At 6:40 I got a text from Shipt that my order was delivered and to look at their photo for proof. They sent a photo of nothing. At 6:53 I got another text from Shipt stating that my order was canceled “due to being unable to reach you for delivery”. Check out the Yelp reviews for this company. And, by the way, Target purchases made using the Shipt app are sometimes more expensive than the prices found in the Target app itself.

  • I switched to Shipt after how they handled the pack and play

I needed a quick order, as I was home taking care of my sick family, and I just needed a few supplies. I used to order a lot of delivery orders. I used to be bed bound (I’m epileptic and have injuries from my time in service/war). I’m doing much better now, but the issues come and go. So I know it might change again, and I might lose my license again and need delivery services regularly.
Anyways, today I was just tired and needed a few things to make some soup and just hold me over. When I went into my apps, I saw both apps Instacart and Shipt. But then I remembered seeing how Shipt stepped in and handled the pack and play situation, when they didn’t have to, nor were even involved. Whoever did that, needs all the raised. That was the best commercial for all us Moms struggling out here. I will only order Shipt from now on! Y'all did right by us Moms!
Oh, and my Shipt order arrived early and in perfect condition! Now I can make yummy soup and tea for the family and hopefully get them back to feeling better! And I can back to resting up in the couch and stay in PJs all day. Momming is hard sometimes!

  • Beware - shopper scam

Well, my days of same day delivery convenience are over. I used to use Shipt and target’s same day service a lot. Today I ordered some things for same day delivery from target, who uses Shipt to facilitate their same day orders, and to my surprise my shopper cancelled all of my items without contacting me and substituted a brand new iPad. She then “Delivered” this and submitted an image of nothing as proof of delivery. Obviously this was their intention to begin with but it really surprises me that someone can create a shopper account with shipt and can then so easily use your card to shop for whatever they want. Target of course refunded after contacting Shipt which will take a few days to process, but if I weren’t lucky enough to have enough to cover this charge I would be in a lot of trouble. Same day shoppers do not have direct access to your card info I’m told, but there is nothing to stop them from making changes to your order without your consent - they just have to say you consented. It’s the honor system. The fact that this is even possible is really shocking and I’m sure this is a common scam this time of year. Never again. Beware folks!

  • Order canceled with no logical explanation

I have been using Shipt for several years now with almost no issues. I went to place an order in Dallas early Sunday evening. My order kept getting delayed. I called customer service and asked if I should just go ahead and cancel so Instacart could deliver instead. They said not to worry and that they were just a little short on shoppers. Eventually I got a notification that my order was being delayed until the next morning. This is unacceptable. I canceled my order after that.

Thankfully Instacart saved the day (or night in this case by getting my order delivered by 11pm in less than an hour on a Sunday night). I think there’s probably only one logical explanation for why there’s no Shipt shoppers available in Dallas on a Sunday evening….you’re not paying your drivers enough!! 👏👏

Your customer service used to be great when I spoke to your friendly representatives in Birmingham. Now it sounds like I’m talking to someone over in India. I had to tell the girl to slow down because she was talking a mile a second and I couldn’t understand her. I’m going to give you one opportunity to rectify this. Please contact me and if we can resolve this matter I’ll consider taking down this negative review. Thank you!

  • No contact from Shipt customer service after "report issue"

No contact from Shipt customer service or refund of my MISSING ITEM after I used the "report issue" feature in the app. WHY OFFER such a feature if it's meaningless?? I did not receive the 10 chicken wings. I received zero. Not sure how it was charged to my account when I literally didn't get them. The other item was the WRONG item.

    Original review:

The app does not honor background refresh Settings in iOS. This means if I am switching between my browser and this app, it does not correctly put this app in the background. Instead, every time I look away for even 30 seconds, and only going to one other app, it still requires me to completely reload the app from scratch. This is ridiculous and speaks to a lack of care by the developers of this app. Another thing this app does not honor is the BOGO sales from grocery stores. They are greedy and overcharge on every item, yet do not honor sales. Instead, they pocket the difference. Many of the shoppers are very good, but they want us to pay overpriced groceries plus a tip which is ridiculous.

  • unauthorized charges

I downloaded this app hoping that i could potentially use it for grocery shopping. After a few days of having it downloaded, and an account made, i got charged a $99 fee from the company for an “annual membership”. after noticing the charge, i immediately contacted them and they told me i would have to call the next day. i did and they told me they couldn’t do ANYTHING about it and to contact my bank, which i also did and my bank spoke with the company and couldn’t get anything resolved. the last man we spoke to from this company told me that my account would be shut down and my cards will be removed. i still continued the dispute process through my bank which failed. i was told that there was now all of a sudden a 14 day trial for the fee and how i never cancelled.
i was never told about the trial, and the guy from shipt never explained to me that i still had time to cancel and get my money back. also my account or membership was never shut down or cancelled by shipt like they had communicated .
anyways i would highly advise you all to choose a better app for grocery shopping!!! i wouldn’t want your money to be taken from you without any consent.

  • Weird experience

I had a pretty unique experience. What happened was, I downloaded the app to order a few things for my SO whom I am in a long distance relationship with. I logged into my account (used the app 1 other time years back with no issues) and ordered what I wanted. I then turned off my phone and went to go to the gym. I got a text from the shopper about an item that was missing, which I responded to, I then tried to go back into the app to check on the order. To my surprise I was logged out and it wouldn’t let me log in for some reason. I clicked on forgot password to try to log in a different way, and was then routed to a page stating that my access had been banned and I had to talk to an owner(I am assuming the reason for this is that I am deployed to and living in Japan right now, as that would be the only thing that would make sense. Odd that the app is available to me at all though.) I was a bit afraid about the order, as I knew I had been charged and hoped the order hadn’t been cancelled altogether. The order did get to my SO eventually so it’s not a massive deal but I probably will not be using this service again.

  • Chat Feature

The new chatting feature is a huge disappointment. I’m not sure what went into the decision making on pulling away from using native text, but for the end-user this is a huge waste of time. Every time I get a message from my shopper, the app then sends me a text message to go back into the app within a different area just to reply back to the shopper. This process goes on over and over and over again during the day while I’m busy doing other things like working and taking care of my family. It’s a terrible way to force people to use your app more by causing a ton of friction in their shopping experience. This was poorly thought out and I’m not sure who you user tested this with, but I would highly consider changing it back.

Hack Tip: For anyone that doesn’t like this chat experience, you can order directly through the Target app and not have to deal with this. Texting with your shopper is still with your native phone text through Target. [yours truly, a UX Professional and long-standing Shipt user]

  • Disabled text messaging

I’ve been using Shipt weekly for three years. You always used to get text messages from your shopper on status, questions, etc. they’ve just eliminated that functionality, with shopper messages coming in the app alone. So, if you don’t check the app constantly, or turn on notifications for the app (which then subjects you to all manner of “notifications”) you don’t get your messages from the shopper. Terrible, unhelpful upgrade. Plan to cancel.

**EDIT: Today I discovered how well this works, real world. Oftentimes. I’ll order Shipt before I leave work so it arrives roughly when I do. Typically the shopper texts me on the way home, and I can reply to a text message, with the hands free setup in my car, easy-peasy.

Now, I get a ding notification in the app. To see WHAT the notification is, I need to look in the app. And then type in the app. Neither of which I can do while I’m driving. Same deal if I don’t have my phone. With my Apple Watch, I could reply to the text, quickly and easily. Now, basically if I’m just not sitting, looking at my phone waiting for messages, I likely miss them. This saves me zero time.

  • Room for Improvement

Been a shipt app user for 3 + years. Continue to use it because it’s handy and because more stores have been added for me. I do like several newer features like tip options, being able rate a shopper and choose him/her to shop again, and of course, more stores to choose from is super nice!

However, there is room for improvement…

There are certain stores, especially Publix, that are always out of items, but I’ve been told by shoppers and/or the store, that it’s mainly because Shipt doesn’t keep up with individual store inventory well. The stores have plenty of items on the shelves, but the app doesn’t reflect what they have accurately.

Also, the shoppers should be allowed to shop whichever store is most convenient or shows that most items are in stock.

I also prefer the old method of the shopper texting me instead of using the APP chat. Of course I understand this probably helps corporate.

Speaking of corporate, I’d also to know right away if my order is being picked up or not. Too many times, I place the order at 9am for a 6pm delivery and find out at 6:30 that no one has picked up my order and I won’t be receiving my groceries. This has impacted my child’s school projects, items we were to cook for a group function, and of course, dinner!

And last, Would like to only buy 1 of a BOGO item. The app automatically selects 2,4,6 when the item is BOGO.

Thank you for reading my review!
