Version History of Waay

3.5.1

April 22, 2024

Here's what's new: • New exercises. Three exercises have been added (and another two updated) in the Melodies and Chords courses. These exercises will help you develop a strong foundation for the order of flats/sharps and fast fifths. • Completion screens I. If you're trying to refresh a three-star skill but only get two stars, Waay will now more clearly tell you why the skill wasn't refreshed. • Completion screen II. Once you're finished a set of corrections, you can now return to the original exercise with one tap (Thanks, Jacob!). You'll also get more specific feedback on your performance (Thanks, Andrew!). • Skipped taps. When scales were entered quickly, a button press could sometimes not be caught. This issue has now been fixed. (Thanks, Lillian and Andrew!) • A few other minor tweaks, fixes, and additions. I hope you like the new update! Please feel free to get in touch anytime with feedback or questions about Waay. You can tap "Get in Touch" in the sidebar (under More) or go to tenkettles.com/contact. -Alex

Here's what's new in this update: • Exercise Difficulty. Each exercise in Waay has been tweaked: some are now easier, others are more challenging. But overall I think the skill required to get three stars is now much more consistent from exercise to exercise. • Backspace Button. Anytime a question has a multi-part answer, you get a backspace button! Feedback on the changes? Send me an email anytime by tapping "Get in touch" in the sidebar (under "More") and I'll (almost always) get back to you by the next working day. -Alex P.S., There's some big news coming for Waay. Waay now offers syncing between your devices! If you have iCloud enabled (as most of us do), it'll just work. No separate login or setup required. But what if you want to keep your devices unsynced? That's OK too: you can toggle syncing on or off under "More" in the Waay sidebar. Here's what else is new: • Reset button. Want to scrap all your progress and start over? Just tap "Reset" in the sidebar. • Backup/restore. Backups of your progress are now periodically stored on your device, just in case you change your mind about a recent reset! • Fixed star counts. The max stars in the sidebar should now read 144 (not 150) for all Waay users with a full account. Questions or comments? Happy to help. Get in touch anytime by tapping "Get in touch" in the Waay sidebar (under "More"). -Alex P.S., If you want to hop onto our newsletter (educational content, giveaways, testing offers), just tap "Free Newwsletter" in the sidebar.

  • Genuinely helpful

I’ve found after a month of using this app I’ve made way more progress with my music theory knowledge than I have within the past 10+ years of trying to understand things on my own terms. The tips, tricks and exercises are very helpful in actually memorising these theory concepts. I find the practice sessions to be pretty fun too, they’re like daily puzzles. I hope we get more courses soon, I’d like to start learning some more advanced concepts and techniques!

  • Incredible app, better than conservatory

I am a former music student that studied piano at conservatory, but my theory had grown weak in the years since I graduated. I was looking for an app to brush up on it and I was blown away by Waay. I hated theory in college - it intimidated me and I was bad at it since my high school teachers never focused on it. This app has me actually looking forward to practicing it and doing the exercises, which is something I never thought I would say. The content is top notch, but the actual app design is beautiful as well. I barely ever leave reviews but this app is just wonderful in every way. Thank you to the developer; you’ve made my life a little bit better because of your work.

  • Tentative 5 Star

I’ve been diving into the world of music theory and have really struggled with finding something that works with my brain. I decided to give this app a try after coming across it on Reddit and the trial lessons have given me some breakthroughs on solidifying some of the basic concepts I’ve struggled with retaining. The trial period consists of the basics of intervals and how to build major scales (it also gives you the pattern for minor scales but the practices are paywalled). I usually can’t do in-app purchases (I have a very limited budget) but I’m genuinely going to try working this into my expenses because it seems like this might be an extremely helpful app. Going to purchase a month soon and hopefully the rest of the courses are as helpful as the beginning ones. I will update once I’ve gotten further into the app but it’s promising so far!
