Can be clunky

Seems to timeout a lot and had a larger than expected delay between hitting send and the email sending. No doubt this is a byproduct of the encryption, however this has resulted in mails being sent greatly delayed as Iโ€™ve closed the app before it completed sending. Having said that ProtonMail raises the bar when it comes to accessible mail security.

Multiple Reinstalls of App

I like using Proton to encrypt my emails, and it works great for me on Mac. However, in the two months Iโ€™ve had the app on my iPhone (always keeping iOS updated to the most recent), I have had to delete and reinstall three times. The app stops opening for me. I try to open, it shows it is loading for a couple of seconds, and then crashes.

When I reported the issue, I was told to update my iOS, which I had stated in my submission was done before sending the bug report. The alternative offered was to join the Beta. I am not comfortable with participating in Beta testing. Otherwise, there was nothing else to offer. I am not happy with this response as it seems others use the app without this issue and give 5 star ratings. I gave 3 stars because when it works, itโ€™s great. But until this issue I am experiencing is fixed, there will be no improvement in my rating.

Amazing Privacy-Focused Email

I love ProtonMail! Iโ€™ve been a paid subscriber for several years and a user of the iOS app since itโ€™s inception, and I am very happy with the quality of service, friendly UI, and focus on privacy and security.

That said, Iโ€™d love to see just one or two changes. First of all, the preview notification of emails only shows the Title field. I have no problem with not showing a preview of the body of the email, but I would love to know who the email was from! If the sender would pop up in the notification, it would be perfect. Maybe thereโ€™s a way to do this, but Iโ€™ve looked and havenโ€™t seen anything.

Secondly, as an admitted Apple fanboy, I would also love to see an Apple Watch app for checking messages quickly or when Iโ€™m away from my phone/desktop. Now Iโ€™m not super technical but Iโ€™m sure thereโ€™s some technical thing with privacy and encryption and whatnot and displaying messages on the Apple Watch, but itโ€™s still something that I would like to see if at all possible.

Other than those suggestions, this app and ProtonMail are about as perfect as email can get. I whole-heartedly recommend it to everyone!

I like the idea

This is a fancy concept, but the app still isnโ€™t sophisticated enough and my user experience isnโ€™t always smooth. I have a couple of annoyances, the first one being that I wasnโ€™t able to copy an email address from the list of CC recipients. Number two: I hit โ€œsendโ€ on an email and thought it had been sent only to see later that it was still in the drafts. The wifi signal is a lot weaker in the bedroom, so that might have caused the problem, but I think the app should at least notify you if something like this happens.

How email should be

Thanks to the Protonmail team for continually working so hard on improving its service! Releasing the iOS app and now providing the ability to use the Mail application on MacOS have made it so easy to keep my inbox private and secure.

All emails should be kept private and thanks again for championing this cause.

Nice app and service, though a bit pricey if you want a paid plan
