Great app, lame new logo

The best personal phone internet browser because of the unique and accessible way Firefox places my most used sites right under the search bar, so I can get there with a single click—and be signed in already! For sites that I don’t use as often, or for random searches, I usually use chrome due to its better speed. However, nothing can beat Firefox’s single-click common websites—sometimes I can load my gmail even faster on Firefox than on the gmail app!

At the same time—actually the reason I wrote this—I really hate the new logo. It’s cheesy and unappealing; the shape of the center circle and the unrecognizable fox make the app look a lot like a cheap chrome copycat, which it isn’t. For the specific applications I mentioned above, Firefox is clearly superior to chrome and I wish Firefox wouldn’t downgrade what was once an appealing logo to copy them.

Many issues

EDIT July 12: Another small update, no fix for any of the issues mentioned.
EDIT July 8: Several months since its introduction and many times the issue has been reported, night mode is still unusable after a few minutes and causes the entire screen to become a garbled and unreadable mess. I appreciate the additions to the developer log that I didn’t even know existed on mobile but there might be more pressing issues.

I’ve used this app for years and it seems to continue to get more buggy with each release. My first and main tab is Wikipedia, and so most of the bugs I find are experienced on that site. Whenever the app crashes (which happens very frequently, especially when switching from another app back to Firefox) it sends me to a completely random page from my browsing history on that tab, sometimes pages I visited last week. Night mode is great when it’s usable for a few minutes before causing the display to show a mess of distorted lines, partially or fully destroyed images, and various parts of the page being displayed on top of each other making it unreadable and impossible to tell where you are on the page. The night mode bug has existed for as long as I can remember night mode being a feature, while the flashback-on-crash issue seems to have only cropped up in the past two or three months.

Response from developer

Hello! The app has been significantly improved since you shared your review with us. We hope you’ll try it again and let us know about your experience!

Bookmark management still needs a lot of work

This is a great browser for many reasons, the iPhone app looks great too. iPad app needs some visual overhaul, especially the bookmarks menu which is a see of white space. Brave have done an elegant job with their pop-up bookmarks menu.

The primary area of concern for me is bookmarks sync. We can now delete bookmarks but there is no option to re-order bookmarks. Adding bookmarks on iOS is broken too- you can’t choose the folder, it auto-adds the bookmarks to “Mobile Bookmarks” I want all bookmarks in the same “Bookmarks Toolbar” folder that I have setup on my MacBook. I don’t even want a “Mobile Bookmarks” folder, I make no distinction between device and bookmarks. I should be able to delete this folder.

Finally, on first launch, when I open the bookmarks menu it should default to my chosen bookmarks folder, rather than me having to navigate to it just to find my synced bookmarks.

Bookmarks need a serious overhaul.

Firstly, thanks for the extremely detailed and lengthy ‘What’s New’. It’s great to know exactly what has been updated - so many apps don’t bother to tell us!😡. I haven’t tried the new sync feature as I don’t have a Firefox login but I’m sure plenty of users will appreciate it. It’s great Firefox offers privacy features and the option to delete browser data. Other 3rd party browsers don’t offer this. It’s annoying they’re buried under too many menus though. The main problem with Firefox is the lack of bookmarks organisation. Bookmarks simply appear in a list in the order you bookmarked them. There’s no option to use folders, reorder or edit the website name. Until this has been improved, this will remain a very frustrating omission and the main reason Firefox can’t be used as a main browser.

One thing from Safari I find essential is the forward feature (square with arrow icon). From there I can send web pages to friends/family via messages or email, print, save as pdf, add to reading list plus a few others. Firefox has nothing like this.

Needs a proper adblocker

I understand that on iOS every browser is just a reskinned Safari, but Firefox needs a proper adblocker for it to become a usable alternative. Not being able to use apps like AdGuard or 1Blocker to block ads and filter web pages kills it for me. Please implement an in-browser ad block solution. Tracking protection is a good to have for now but a robust adblocking system will seal the deal for me.

Bookmarks management needs improvement

We should be able to manage bookmarks from the app. I can’t even choose to add the bookmark to the list I have on my desktop app. The distinction between the two makes it really cumbersome. Why do we have a ‘Bookmarks Toolbar’, a ‘Bookmarks Menu’ and ‘Unsorted Bookmarks’? Just one container/folder that is the same in the mobile app and the desktop app would be great.

Bookmark management between devices is ugly

I’ve started using Firefox across all my devices (iPhone, gaming PC, and iMacs at home and work) as I like the control it gives you, especially now Apple are treating extensions in Safari as separate apps in order to monetise them (Oh, Apple!). I also like the ‘containers’ feature of Firefox on desktop - it’s a shame Apple don’t allow it on iOS (Oh, Apple 2: Electric Boogaloo!)

It seems to work fine on iOS, but I have a single complaint and it’s something that really irks me... With regards to syncing between devices, Firefox treats mobile and desktop bookmarks separately, putting them in different folders and not allowing you control of your desktop bookmarks on mobile, meaning you can’t organise, edit or delete them - and also making you have to drill down two folders to access them!

To me, that seems at odds against the entire point of syncing. Coming from the seamlessness of Safari between devices, it’s very ugly and highly annoying.

It’s okay but...

Using forms is not an easy task, so when you are on a shopping website or filling out a web form, it’s very annoying!! Hard to describe but, for example when you tap on a multiple choice drop down menu, when you select it, you have to tap on the down arrow on the keyboard to go to the next option in the form, if you don’t then the selection you made will not be accepted! And also another thing that bugged me was that when you click on a link that will open in a new tab, it will bring up the keyboard and URL/search bar, have to exit just to see the link you just clicked on! All these annoyances I have lived with for a year now, but Firefox doesn’t seem to want to fix them, so I have uninstalled and I’m back to using Safari! 🙁

Almost great

Love the dark mode to save our eyes in the dark, but can you please change the splash screen and default background? Still get blasted with brightness when we open the app...

It’s ok but not awesome.

It works and I love the desktop version. But the mobile version needs some boost in features. Any apps for an iPhone should have swipe left and swipe right features and not only for backwards/forward. This should be customisable. Swipe left and right to cycle through the tabs or show menu. Also why is swipe down not refreshing the webpage?! This is basic functionality. Also when I open a new tab I don’t see my bookmarks under address bar and I have to click on the 3 lines, select bookmarks and then access bookmarks. This is highly inefficient. Bookmarks should show up right after you open a new tab.
Renaming bookmarks is also not supported.
