Thanks for sharing your experience using Firefox!

Love the browser, app has a few stability issues

Look, I love FireFox. I am constantly recommending people use FireFox both on desktop and mobile. BUT the app is currently completely broken. It crashes within seconds of opening, so quickly that I can’t even interact with the pop up letting me know the previous session crashed! Neither updating the app nor updating my phone has solved the problem. Once this is fixed I’ll of course update my rating but for the moment it has to be 1 star because it’s completely unusable.

Update: I had to delete and re the app to get it functional again; rather miffed that I lost all my tabs. (Yes, in theory if I had the whole sign in thing where you can share tabs across devices I’d still have them but the thing about that is I don’t WANT my tabs shared across devices, I do different things on different devices and that cross pollination would just be confusing and distracting for me. This is like the only circumstance in which that function would be desirable for me and I hope this circumstance never recurs.)

Super glitchy

Browser glitches so that newly opened tabs can’t be seen in the tab switcher until I toggle to private browsing and back. Close the tab switcher? Have to toggle again before I can switch to a new tab; only older tabs are available without doing that. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled four times across multiple Firefox updates in case it was a bug that got fixed but it keeps coming back. I’m getting sick of having to redo all my shortcuts and tabs and settings just so that the browser will function normally for a month or two (or in the case of this week, an hour or two; what an absolute waste of time). I’ve posted on the support forum but no answers. I really like using Firefox and don’t want to switch but this is getting incredibly annoying. I guess at least it’s not crashing all the time like it did last year before I did a fresh install. I can’t state enough just how sick I’m getting of having to fix every issue by uninstalling and reinstalling.

Edit: months later, I am still having this issue AND the app randomly quits at least once per day. And the last time it quit I lost all of my tabs. I swear, I want to love Firefox as one of the few privacy focused browsers out there, but it’s just such hot garbage.

Missing core features

Updated Nov 2022: 2*
Thought I would try the all new, all syncing firefox that just got released. Every few years I try again. Consistently the Firefox team never fail to produce an out-of-date, out of touch experience for browsing the web, from iOS through to desktop. Firefox is a dying technology, because they lack creative minds in understand how to improve the web browsing experience to bring back lightweight, fast experience, while allowing addon’s to provide exceptional features such as bookmark management, OS integrated password management which is far more secure than Firefox can ever offer. Uninstalled once again.

2020 Review: 3*
As has been the case for years now, no matter which OS environment you are using. Firefox bookmark feature is diabolical and frustrating. Appreciating it is a new feature, it will be great to see greater support for mouse + keyboard on iPadOS. Support for blocking adds (and other extensions) is a must. Other browsers have surpassed mozilla in this. Greater support for seeing photos online at better colour gamut and quality should just be standard for ALL browsers by now, it is 2020 not 1990 anymore. Other than this, Firefox is good. Their biggest brag seems to be about privacy these days, but so is Safari, but Safari have so features more modern than Firefox and that’s saying something!

I recommend Firefox (no, the internet doesn’t know ‘everything’ about you already).

I recommend Firefox and believe it’s worth your time to ‘change’ to it. I don’t work I’m tech but try to understand things and be purposeful as best I can in these things. 1) It’s more secure than the most commonly used browsers (from ‘for profit’ companies). That (still) very much matters. There ARE other good alternatives I chose this one. 2) It works well and easily enough (really). In my experience, even when sites say it won’t either at all or all it’s features. 3) The features are good (homepage stuff, syncing across devices if you wish) I ENJOY using Firefox. P.s. (?) for context or maybe this helps: 1) I don’t use it on work computers, 2) I did make a Mozilla account and use the sync function and other features (not required), 3) I also was thoughtful in my choice of a default search engine, 4) and use a separate encrypted password program (I don’t save passwords in the browser’s program or on another built in system like Microsoft or Mac’s keychains etc).

Thanks for your review and for recommending Firefox!

The recent update/s ruined it

I am an avid Firefox user on both mobile and desktop and I would have given this app 5 stars but the last few updates for the iOS app have really killed the performance. The keyboard is constantly freezing up or just isn’t there when it’s supposed to be and the whole the app crashes over and over again. It also makes the phone noticeably hotter and the page scrolling often freezes up or becomes very laggy. This has been very frustrating so I really hope this gets fixed or I will ditch the Firefox app and look for another iOS browser.

The best and safest browser

I was a computer scientist, systems analyst and support technician for 51 years. I am also a woman. I have exclusively used Firefox since it’s inception. I have always been impressed that it is nonprofit.
In 2013, I had 2 PC’s and my bank card. Having hacked the stolen computers, the perp was able to access my bank account and steal $300,000. She was able to gain remote access to my other computers and commit other crimes. I was able to track her activities, but law enforcement did nothing, because they didn’t believe a woman could know that much about computers and the law.
Using Firefox, I was able to protect myself from this known hacker. Any time she broke through Firefox’s secure settings, if Firefox didn’t first notify me, I would notify them, and my accounts would again be sufficiently secured. The techs at Internet Explorer or Chrome wouldn’t have done the same.
I am forever grateful to the people who have made Firefox possible. I love Nightly. Not only will I always exclusively use Firefox, I have promoted it to all of my clients, and anyone else who would listen because they cared about safety when on the Web. I will continue to do so because I have faith and experience that no other browser can even come close to what Firefox can do.

From 5 stars to 1 after last update

Hair-pullingly slow and clunky on iOS after the recent update. Also seems to want to keep taking me back to the very first tab I have open when I switch to another app and come back to it, incredibly annoying with a lot of tabs open to have to keep scrolling back down to the bottom tab where I left off.

Was at least thankful to discover I could at turn off ‘jump back in’ and recents in the homepage to get it looking closer to the way it was before. Don’t like the new look at all.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it (or break it, in this case!)

Not sure how the address bar at the bottom is supposed to improve the user experience, just another extra psychological gear-shift I have to make now when going back and forth between other browsers and Firefox.
I can also no longer see what I’m typing as I’m typing it on Reddit because of this daft new layout, rendering FF useless for Reddit, and who knows what other sites. I won’t be sticking around to find out, you’ve lost a user here I’m sad to say because you were my go-to browser. I hope you can improve things in the future so I can come back. For now it’s un-usable, at least on iphone...

Needs Work

I’ve enjoyed my experience with Firefox on my desktop, but with this iOS version I haven’t so much. The app needs some work. Like others who have written reviews, the bookmarks are kind of a mess. The bookmarks issue is also present on the desktop version but it is compounded on iOS. I shouldn’t have to tap through “desktop bookmarks” to get to bookmarks and they shouldn’t be buried in the hamburger menu. There should be an icon in the toolbar for easy access. Why separate bookmarks into mobile and desktop? It’s not 2008. Cellphones are extremely powerful and the experiences should be married fully, including bookmarks. It should just be “bookmarks toolbar” and that’s it. The rest of the bookmarks we save can be organized by the user. Not by putting them in “bookmarks menu” (what does that even mean) or “other bookmarks” (other than what?). Outside of bookmarks, the night mode should have a setting to automatically match the system. Night mode isn’t very good regardless though so I often have to turn it off. The dark mode never actually switches to match the system. I have to manually go in and toggle on and off to get it to work. Tabs completely reload when I go back into them when they should save my place so that’s frustrating. Please fix all of these things. In short, the app needs work.
