My Go-To Meditation Routine

I have been using Happier consistently for about 18 months. I have a reminder every morning from Happier at 7am, and if I haven’t already meditated I’ll squeeze in 5 minutes. If that doesn’t come to fruition, (I have 2 busy boys ages 4 & 11) I try to catch a session before bed to wind down. I make 5/7 days per week.

I have learned so much from the teachers available on this app. Insights into big feelings, loving kindness for my own mistakes and gentleness in the unfolding of the resolutions. The meditations have been great tools for insight, concentration, and befriending my mind, aging body, and feelings. After 18 months I truly feel I have rewired my responses to events in my life. It’s really amazing to realize when it happens that I did the work to develop new responses, and my world feels better for it.

Make no mistake, meditation is work just like the gym for the body. If you are looking for a convenient and user-friendly way to meet that challenge, Happier would be my recommendation without hesitation. With it, I’m Happier! (Cheesy; I know. I can’t resist word-play opportunities).

Great meditations

I use this app everyday, often only for 5 minutes, just to squeeze a quick meditation in. The new personalised system is great, I don’t have to browse around I just pick one that’s suggested and go for it. I highly recommend this app to everyone

Ten Percent Has Changed My Life

Quite simply, this App made a small change with huge consequences. I am no longer the same person who tentatively, quite reluctantly, thought ... “what the hell I’ll give it a go”. The difference to my life has been profound. That was 7 years ago… im still practicing, now more than ever. Meditation has become a non-negotiable part of my life. Sometimes its snatched but more often it’s relished.

I will for ever be grateful to have stumbled across it in a moment of need.

10% sadder with New individualized Home Screen

So I’ve been using this app regularly (usually daily) since the pandemic. my friends and mom all do the challenges. Like I loveeee Happier. My 2 stars are for the new individualized home screen. What I LIKED about this app is the collective words and readings offered in the home screen. In a world where all our apps are trying to guess what we as individuals want and trying to “individualize” our experience I really hate that this app has joined that movement by suggesting meditations based on our goals… you know a quick way to forgo your meditation practice- setting up benchmarks…lol. They are claiming to move away from a “one size fits all” approach— you know what I’ve learned and loved from this meditation is that there are collective human experiences- absolutely nothing wrong with collectively showing the users the same home page- it’s 6pm and I was just offered a “waking up” meditation🤦🏾‍♀️these algorithms will only limit our creativity and our quest to seek things for ourselves. I’ll keep using until this happier change makes me miserable…which is slowly happening—I even lost my meditation streak once they introduced these changes.. literally been avoiding this space and that makes me sad. 10%sadder

Hate the new Home screen. I have been using this app for a couple years now, and have used Balance and Headspace before. Ten Percent became my favorite, because it was so easy to just jump into a meditation. Loved how there was curated content right when you open the app. It helped with the decision fatigue I faced with Headspace, where there is just too much to choose from.
Now when opening the app you are forced to go through a quiz monthly. You must complete the quiz before you can do anything else in the app or open any meditation. Honestly one of the most irritating features I’ve ever seen in an app. Who thought this was a good idea to force a user to do something they never asked for?
The recommendations that are curated for you after doing the quiz are so limited also. I got three meditations to choose from after completing all of the (annoying) questions. Overall it’s a nice-to-have feature, but it shouldn’t have completely replaced the Home screen.
Please bring back the old design.
Besides the terrible app update, the meditations on the app are really fantastic. They have helped me to sleep better more than anything. And the variety of types of meditations to choose from is great. Would love to see more Sleep meditations. I have listened to 85% of them and need something new.

Great but few new guided meditations

I’ve used this since 2020. I like it a lot, as a paid subscriber, and appreciate their new approach having us set goals for meditation. But I really wish they would add some new guided meditations. Especially for sleep. I’ve listened to almost all of them several times and a handful are my regular repeats. I’m sure it’s not easy to get more high quality guided meditations from such experts like Joseph, Sharon, or Sebene, but boy I sure wish my subscription fees could get a little bit more. And I don’t need those super long ones - more 5 to 15 min sleep meditations would be wonderful. I get bored with hearing the same guided sleep meditations over and over and I can’t listen to the long ones without disrupting my partner’s sleep. I also do unguided but for sleep/insomnia, guided is where it’s at for me. I also appreciate their meditation courses and did most of those early in my start with the program. Thx and hope you keep it up and continue to offer subscribers new courses and guided meditations. Some of live in places where we cannot easily access such renowned meditation teachers except via the 10% Happier app!!!

The best mindfulness tool at my fingertips

I began regular mindfulness practice early in the Pandemic lockdown thanks to the Ten Percent Happier app.
It has enriched my life so much that I have kept using it daily for about 4 years now. Even when I can’t meditate for several days or even months, the flexibility and effectiveness of the app keep me coming back to it. The meditations are powerfully curated and delivered. They are right at my fingertips when I need them the most, all of it from home.
It’s inspiring to have so many experienced mindfulness teachers available to me in just one app. The quality of the audio and video is flawless. The variety of key words and themes to search from makes it easy to mix and match meditations based on moods and time constraints.
I would have given the app a 5-star review, were it not for the room for improvement regarding disability inclusion in the meditation scripts (language) and in the intention (themes).
Finally, only a few meditations are close-captioned. I look forward to seeing most meditations offered with close captioning to include more users with hearing impairment and, potentially, some Deaf users as well.

On Aug 1, 2024 They ruined a formerly fantastic app

The “update” made in Aug 1 is horrible. This formerly fantastic app now requires me to go through a completely ANNOYING “check in” every time I open the app which means clicking boxes and inputting a “monthly intention”. Then, meditations will be “matched” to me. Come on. I want to meditate. Not be pestered every time I open this app. I am perfectly capable of selecting my meditations based on how I am feeling IN THAT MOMENT. My “intentions” change constantly based on whatever is happening throughout my day. Who sets a MONTHLY intention? That seems like a really stupid buzzword and I dont want anything to do with it. I loved this app. The guided meditations are wonderful. The Daily Dose was almost always spot on for me. And if not, I easily could select something more suitable. Also I am not even able to set the “monthly intention” as there is a bug and my keyboard doesn’t pop up for me to type it in. The Troubleshooting FAQ solution offered does not work. PLEASE add an OPT OUT for this idiotic check in feature because currently my intention is to cancel this app and find a different one. Why did you have to go and do us like this? You’ve transformed a perfectly useful tool into just another aggravation.

A meditation app like no other

I recently gave my DBT psychotherapy group a short list of my favorite meditation apps. The list has changed slightly over time, but I always put Ten Percent at the top. While I don’t use it as regularly anymore for myself because my practice has become simpler and self directed, I do come back to it because it has so many great meditations, teachings, and talks. They are good reminders. In a world full of buzzwords about mindfulness and self proclaimed experts, I find Ten Percent to be and remain the real thing. When new to meditation, it’s important to learn from long term practitioners and respected teachers and to have access to meditations that are of different lengths and applicable in various situations. I would like to see more options for advanced practitioners in the future on the app, including retreats. Also, offering a less costly version to students and people in lower income brackets would be great. Some of my clients mentioned high cost as a deterrent. Very grateful to the team who created and upkeeps the app!
