Glitchy app. Great when it works

The app has great data that updates frequently and easy to understand. It’s my go-to app… when it works. Multiple occasions when a big solar storm is predicted and when it’s crucial to getting up-to-date info is when the app won’t show any information. You can log in but the pages don’t update no matter which tab or if I close it out and come back. Doesn’t make a difference whether I use WiFi or not. I don’t know if too many people trying to access the website/app at the same time impacts this but seems to correlate when many would be using the app to catch the Aurora. Again, great app, but not dependable.

Thanks for your review, SMOtter07! Every major storm gives me a chance to look into the app's inner workings, and this last one was no different. I discovered that the database load balancing was not working correctly, so I had to make some changes. Now that I have that fixed, I am working on the intermittent initial loading issue where the screen remains blank until you press refresh. It is a constant work in progress, and this feedback helps tremendously! Thanks again for the honest feedback! Edit to add: there was an issue with the database connection. I corrected it and everything should be smoother now!

App not loading data

I thought this app was going to be great, but here we are on what might be a huge night for the aurora, and the app is dead. Nothing will load! The green wheel just spins and spins and none of the data or information is loading. I’m glad I’m paying only month to month so I can cancel my subscription.

Thanks for the feedback, Grammaknits! There have been several issues over the past few months, two of which could have caused this issue. One was an outage with Cloudflare, which all of the app's data flows through as a security measure. The second was my own doing. I had some errors in my load balancing for the database servers. That issue was fixed, and, alas, another has cropped up: the main page intermittently fails to load. If you press the refresh button when that happens, it will load. I am currently tracking down and correcting that bug. I appreciate your honest feedback! It really helps me work to keep this app running smoothly! Edit to add: there was an issue with the database connection. I corrected it and everything should be smoother now!

Great response

After subscribing I had an issue and contacted the developer. Had a quick response, and the issue has been resolved. So happy, and I’d definitely recommend the app!

I believe I responded to your contact, but I’ll add here too. Traffic boomed over 400% of normal with this last storm. The app was running on 1 server handling the web and database traffic. I finished upgrading my network yesterday to add 7 more servers to split up the workload and faster drives in the database servers to lessen the read/write lag. It’s been blazing along pretty good now!

Suddenly not working

Have been using this app for almost a year, and it’s my favorite of the 3 aurora apps I use. But tonight it locked up and won’t do anything. Tried deleting and reinstalling, no help. Turned my phone off and on, no help. I get to the page that is right after agreeing to give my location, then it just stops.
ETA: Thank you for the response. Adjusting the font worked.

This was brought to my attention a couple of weeks ago. The screens are supposed to scroll and I found a bug preventing it. I just submitted 12.0.1 to Apple for review and it will fix this issue. In the meantime, you can adjust the font size on your phone to a smaller size until you get through the onboarding screens.

Stopped working after subscribing

The basic features worked fine and then I signed up for a yearly subscription to see how it’d go. Well, it went…away. Nothing in the app except the ovation will even show anymore. Used the contact us feature so we will see if it gets resolved. Disappointing

Frequently won’t load

I would love to give this app 5 stars. The amount of info it gives over other apps, the presentation, the explanation, it’s all superior.

However, 8 times out of 10, I open the app to a black screen and no data will load. It also gets very bogged down easily when I have aurora alerts, almost like a website with heavy traffic and not enough bandwidth.

Stellar app🤥, crappy performance.

Thanks for the feedback! You’re exactly right about the issues with performance. The server infrastructure was just updated yesterday to handle the large influx of unexpected traffic in the app. Performance is constantly monitored and changes made when issues arise.

Learn a bit how to understand the stats if you don’t understand them, it isn't hard at all (: this is perfect and has everything you need and easy to understand (:

Good app, update glitch

I like that this app provides a lot of useful info. But I’m getting update notices every time I open it and no update occurs when I click on update. All my other apps update automatically. Why not this one?

The update version feature was added to notify when there is an update available but, you are right, it has been quite glitchy. That feature will be dropped in the upcoming version 11. If you text or email your device app ID (contact info is in the About screen, I can look into it. Thanks for the feedback!

Amazing Aurora App!

This was our second visit to Alaska and we had yet to see the Northern Lights. We used another app the first time and it just didn’t provide us much usable information.

We used this app last night and it literally nailed the lights down to almost the exact minute. If it would not have been for the information provided on this app, I doubt that my wife and I would have stayed out several hours in the cold to see the amazing views we got to see at 1am.

Thank you to the developers. It made out year!

There are a lot of variables at play with aurora activity and Amazing Aurora aims to be informative for those who want to know when the time is right to experience the beauty and wonder of the northern lights. Mission accomplished!

Best Aurora app available!

I was involved with beta testing this app and worked closely with the developer to incorporate features that I found lacking in other apps. Prior to using Amazing Aurora, I would reference two other apps plus at least two webpages of Space Weather Live in order to see the information I needed to pursue and photograph the aurora. Amazing Aurora puts all that information in one place, in a simple, intuitive format that’s easy to see and understand. This is one of those apps designed to provide a useful service, not as a gimmicky money maker for the developer.

Best Aurora App!

I used to have to pull up two apps and two websites to get a “good” guesstimate of what to expect for northern lights predictions, not anymore! This app does it all in one place and makes seizing the opportunities to hop in the car or run outside to catch a glimpse so much easier! It’s an Aurora game changer!
