Confusing!

I am extremely tech savvy. This application needs major help. It is confusing to how how to set the bar and where. The steps go so far you can’t even ready the bar nor does it fully explain. Then there is no real direction for how to place your body for movements. The first time I used the machine there was no warning that the “test” to bench mark you would be a workout itself. The second time an entire update was needed so I hardly had time for a workout during my break. This application needs help and there should be a place to provide feedback. I’m contemplating returning the machine. Between the cost of the app when we are already paying for an outrageously expensive machine and the issues I’ve mentioned, I don’t fully support this product. I wouldn’t recommend it. I had planned on doing videos and marketing but at this point I’m very frustrated with the application.

Don’t buy if you don’t want to pay subscription

The machine was expensive and it is good. What made me put a two star rating is that the first months you could use everything and in the advertising made it clear that pro was only for specialized routines and ai routines. Now I can’t even get access to basic workouts without a subscription. Sadly I cannot return my amp I would if I could.

Connection issues

I have constant connection issues between the device and my phone. I may go through entire sets and the machine didn’t know I was connected and I didn’t get any data to the app. I also have times where my Apple Watch will not connect and show the data like heart rate and other details. I really love the machine but the software bugs are really annoying.

When it works I love it

I’ve had this device five months. It does not work flawlessly. The voice over coach which leads you through the set up for each exercise set is constantly inconsistent. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. If I’m paying for a subscription to access the AI workouts I want it to work without any problems. I’ve been asking them to fix this since early March. It is still not working correctly for me.

A MUST HAVE!

What a great product has helped me tremendously after my surgery!

Scam and impossible to unsubscribe

I’ve never seen an app this hard to unsubscribe. I’ve reached out a couple of times and filled out forms multiple times. Still charging me each month. Ridiculous.

Compact but versatile system and fitness app

Honest, unsponsored review from a regular guy who just wants to be fit — not a gym rat.

The Short Version
I did my research. I bought it with my own money. Nobody paid me. And after actually living with this thing for a while — I genuinely love it. If you're on the fence, keep reading.

Why I Chose the Amp
I wasn't looking for a home gym centerpiece or some hulking rack of iron that dominates a room. I wanted something smart, space-efficient, and versatile enough to give me real workouts without turning my home into a Planet Fitness. After careful research, the Amp checked every box.

It mounts close to the wall, stays out of the way, and somehow manages to feel rock-solid despite its minimal footprint. The resistance tops out at 100lbs, which sounds modest — but for the style of cable-based training I wanted to do at home, it's more than enough. I couldn't find anything else on the market that struck this balance of compact, functional, and well-built.

Installation: Painless
The install crew was in and out in about half an hour. Everything looked clean and professional when they were done. Nothing to complain about here.

(One self-inflicted quirk: I installed mine in a second-story loft area. Looks great up there. Very convenient. Until leg day. If you go intense on legs, descending stairs afterward becomes its own little adventure. Just something to think about with your placement choice — plan accordingly and hold the railing.)

The Hardware: Legit
Sturdy. Polished. Premium-feeling. I keep coming back to the fact that it takes up so little space while being this capable. My whole family uses it now — and even my 20-year-old son, who is, by his own definition, a "hardcore gym rat," gave it his highest honor: "It's dope." Even the 100lb resistance limit works for him with most of the exercises he's into with a cable machine.

High praise from a guy who usually scoffs at anything that isn't a commercial gym.

The App: Better Than I Expected (With a Few Rough Edges)
I'll be honest — I was skeptical about the app. Another subscription, another digital coach promising to change my life. I've been burned before. But I actually love it. The AI trainer curates personalized workouts, teaches you proper form with video guidance, and — this is genuinely cool — controls the machine's resistance automatically. You don't have to fiddle with settings mid-set. It just handles it. Small convenience, real difference.

The AI coach has also made me seriously reconsider hiring a personal trainer. I was planning to hire one to learn form and build a custom program. At this point, I'm giving the app a fair shot to do that job instead. So far, it's earning it.

A couple of software quirks worth flagging (these feel very fixable):

1. The benchmark assessment flow is a bit clunky. When you start, the app runs you through benchmark exercises to establish your baseline — which makes sense. But then it immediately wants you to do a full workout based on that baseline, right after you just did the benchmark. For some of us, that benchmark set was the workout. I'd love a "skip the follow-up set" option, especially useful when retaking assessments down the road.

2. The AI coach can go silent mid-workout. If you leave the app and come back during an active session, the voice coaching just... stops. The workout continues, but the AI coach is gone for the rest of the session and I haven't found a way to revive it. It's a minor annoyance, but worth knowing.

Both of these feel like software issues that will get patched eventually — and by the time most people read this, they may already be fixed.

On the Subscription
Yes, there's a subscription. I won't pretend that's not mildly annoying. But here's a practical take: the app teaches you everything — the exercises, the form, the programming logic. After a solid first year, you'll have enough knowledge to design your own workouts if you ever decide to cancel. Whether I'll keep the subscription long-term is a bridge I'll cross later. For now, the tailored programming and convenience are worth it.

The Bottom Line
I'm not a gym rat. I just want to be healthier, stronger, and more consistently active. The Amp fits that goal almost perfectly — it fits my space, my family uses it, my son (the actual gym rat) endorses it, and I'm legitimately excited about my fitness plan for the first time in a while.

No regrets. No incentives. Just a guy who did his homework and is happy with what he bought.

Disclosure: Purchased with my own money. Not affiliated with Amp in any way. No incentives, no free product, no sponsorship. I just like helping people make informed decisions.

EXCELLENT and Beautiful Fitness Coach & Strength Training

The amp is an excellent and beautiful fitness coach and strength training system.

I’ll start at the start. It is absolutely beautiful. It’s got a neutral decor and a modern look. This is not a big black box like the total or the peloton systems. It is a spring loaded weight training device with multiple attachments and coordinated training videos.

I purchased it at a time when I was moving into a new home, continuing to move to the next level in terms of fitness, I am in my third year as a firefighter and constant improvement is so important and honestly fun. The price is good, it’s fair, and it’s split into payments to make it very affordable for anyone. It’s a commitment similar to the commitment to join a gym. I’m in a space in my life where I want to make my home a place where I enjoy spending time and this is a huge part of that for me- making my home a place where I can comfortably get a great workout every single day.

The set up team, they are fantastic. Two guys do all the set ups in this area, southern Michigan and nearby. They came at 7 AM with smiles on their faces and great attitudes. Unbelievable. They were excited about the amp company, which is new and growing. They have worked extensively with the owner who has made sure that they understand the machine quite well so that they can set it up and explain it well to others.

The day I had the amp installed, I also got some news about a personal challenge that has been a bit of a drain on my emotions in my time. I did a couple of trial workouts in the first couple of weeks with my amp, but nothing consistent. At the time, I was also moving, so carrying boxes and forth from one place to another, unpacking, doing repairs, etc.… I was doing constant stamina workouts, just as a matter of lifestyle. No, about a month later, I am two weeks into consistent daily workouts and it is fantastic. I work 24 hour shifts, and I have been doing the yoga workouts when I can’t be at home with my amp system. The app tracks my progress and sets up workouts for me to work out muscle groups appropriately to allow me to build strength with maximum efficiency.

I have not met my strength goals. I have work to do. This is a very motivating, effective, beautiful system, and I am so happy with it.

Best UI / UX I’ve ever seen

Best designed app I’ve ever seen. Very talented developer team. And a great workout too!!

Orientation

This app makes it difficult to use this expensive equipment. No android app either for people using both systems. App does not have landscape orientation if you want to put your phone or iPad side ways to use the app, imagine that! These are basic things for an app. For equipment this pricey, the app needs some polishing. A lot of time instructions on the app are way too fast for people to follow and is very scripted. On one moment you are on the floor mat and then adjusting this equipment for another exercise while there are no time gaps in between and all this while adjusting phone or carrying the iPad up and down from the floor. Could have been better just getting an equipment with a screen. Amp needs to figure this app stuff out especially allowing screen to be rotated to landscape.

I love most of what this app/machine offer however I don’t have a pull-up bar nor a place to safely put one. In the AI generated workout, pull-ups were included. It would be helpful to be able to have a different option

Loving amp!

It’s only day 3 but I’m loving our amp. In fact our whole family (with two teens) is using it. Things to love: 1) streamlined design fits right into our home, 2) seamless install experience, 3) really easy to use, 4) tons of workouts, programs and build your own workouts from tons of well organized movements (by muscle group, etc), 5) workouts have been great - definitely feeling it! I’m so excited to explore more and see where this takes all of us!

Awesome device

Such a sleek device, very thoughtful design and functionality. The app is very modern as well, and has impressive features like AI generated workouts. It seems like early days still so I’m excited to see the experience continue to improve

All good stuff, except..

Would love if there was a widget available for this app! Also, would like a setting to stop moving to the next set/exercise if I don’t pause and need a second to catch my breath. Otherwise, love everything else so far.

Locks you out of your own equipment

I’m now forced to connect to the amp app to use the machine I paid for. Do not recommend buying a device that locks you out.

No More Annoying Gyms

This machine is so cool. I get great workouts and i dont have to beg someone at the gym to workin with them only to hear them say no and watch them play on their phone for 10 min in between sets. I dont like going to the gym it takes time to get there. Then the time it takes to work out. It wastes to much time. With AMP, im here the machine can pick my workout and im off. I spend 30 to 60 mins working out with not any wasted time. The workout is fast, fun and you definitely get a good workout. This was best investment I ever made my whole life. And some people complain about not having enough weight. Well, I’m sure after a while. I may outgrow the weight, but that’s gonna be a long time coming. If you want a home, GYM this is a machine to get. I’ve had people tell me that im looking great. Never saw much improvement until i started to use AMP and i have also been able to stay on my goal of 4 times a week. The time i saved allow me to write this review.

Top notch machine and software

Been using for a month! Love the machine, slick, simple and easy to use. App connectivity to the machine is amazing - and exactly solves what i don’t link about other machines (Tonal) - why do we need a screen on the machine when we have our phones/tablets! App is superb and provides great workouts that match your calibre, preference and available time. Plus it tracks every rep/movement/muscle/weight as you use the machine. Very well done! Now only waiting for the amp watch app!

Checks the Boxes

I have been using the app for 3 weeks and am feeling results so definitely recommend. The programs cover everything they need to but are missing some things. Would love to see some feature updates or clearer direction where these options are:

@ Flexible rest time and reps. Has a 1min rest time but I like 1.5-2min when trying to push myself. The remaining timer adjusts but still tends to be wildly inaccurate and some exercises I’d like to do 8-12 reps instead of the 15 set by the program

@ Elapsed time shown, not just remaining time

@ History during the workout. I can see my personal record but not the number of sets and weight from my previous workouts

@ Volume goals by muscle group instead of just weekly totals. 10,000lbs is very different for arms and chest vs legs & back

@ Specific muscles targeted. The workouts will show “biceps” but I’d like to know if it’s more long head, short head, or brachialis focused.

@ For timed workouts, like 1min of calf raises, have a few seconds buffer time after picking up the weight to set up form before the timer starts

@ Apple Watch sync for things like current heart rate

@ Level recommendation based on height. This might be a me thing because of the install height and I’m 6’5 but sometimes when it says set to level 5, the correct place for my form is actually level 6

Great device!

Love the amp and app, just wish the app supported other languages for non-English speakers living in the US
