What's New in AteMate Food Journal & Coach

5.3

October 28, 2026

AteMate 5.3 introduces human coaching, more control over your meal totals, and a better fit on iPhone Duo and iPad. • New: Work With a Human Coach (Beta): Want support from a real person? Explore our independent Coaching Partners from Profile or the Coach tab menu. Sarah Wragge Wellness is our first partner. See their team and schedule a consultation right from their page. Our partners already use AteMate, so once you connect, they can see your journal and support you right away. More coaches are coming soon. • Edit Your Meal Totals: After a meal is analyzed, you can now type the total calories and macros directly. AteMate keeps the difference as a separate “Your adjustment” item, so your ingredients stay as they are. Tap Reset to undo it anytime. We’re continuing to improve meal editing, with more on the way. • Made for iPhone Duo and iPad: AteMate now adapts as you fold, unfold, or rotate. On larger screens, Insights spreads into a grid, Friends shows your chats beside the feed, and your journal gets more room. • Bug fixes and performance improvements. Thanks for journaling with us. Life changing and created by some genuinely helpful people!

Writing a review for this app again feels like writing a story about a little gem I discovered years ago! 💎

I struggled with obesity while recovering from a traumatic brain injury and living with diabetes. This app used to help me SO MUCH, especially because my memory was seriously impaired. Even my nutritionist loved it!

At some point, though, the app started to break, and I eventually took a break from using it, from looking after myself, and from quite a few other things in my life.

Now it’s time to get back on track! I decided to give Ate another go, and to my surprise, Tom, the creator, actually listened to my suggestion! 🥹 Users can now easily go back to a specific time in their day and see what their diet looked like back then. This was something I really wanted to see in the app!

THANK YOU, TOM! ❤️

I’m genuinely excited to give this another go, get back into my routine and work towards my goals again. Ate is going to be part of my journey ONCE AGAIN! 🙃

2026 update: Here we go again! I’m restarting my health journey, and this time I’m planning to use the app daily. 😊

It’s absolutely amazing to see how many new features have been added and how Tom keeps introducing more information to help us understand our bodies better. I can’t wait to explore everything that’s new and make Ate part of my daily routine again!

6/10

This app used to be so simple. Take a picture and that’s it. Now there’s so many options for people like me who only need one. Love the thought of using an emoji next to the meal to see how one felt afterwards.

Best Simple Food Journal Around

I’ve been using this app since 2020, honestly, it’s been great. There’s not too much going on, probably best food journal there is if you value simplicity and consistency.

Love it

Been using AteMate for a long time. I really enjoy keeping track of my meals with the app. It’s very simple and user friendly.

The photo analysis function always has negative feedback

Update on 9/10/26: I just tried this app again after many months and many updates and they have changed and fixed nothing. The AI feature never gets the food right and you can't tell it what's in the picture. The whole point of logging food and journaling food is so you can go back and see what you ate that day or see patterns in your food so the log not being right is an issue. Yes, I understand you can add a note but the rest of the log is wrong and you can't change anything other than your note. The suggestions on what to change in the future are questionable at best because, again the food they think you're eating is wrong and the app is not worth the $10 a month minimum just to use it!!! Gave it a second chance and it's still the same awful app. The image-to-log feature is what most people are paying for and it sucks so I shouldn't be paying for a feature I can't use!

2/24/25: The app is fine until you use the photo analysis feature. It will always tell you it's not good. The first few times I didnt care beacsue my meals were not as good as it could have been but even if you do the suggestions it says and you replace everything with the “better option” it still says its processed even if you made it from scratch or its high in sodium even if you used all low sodium or it not enough veggies or its high in sugar when there's no sugar. It will always say it's a bad meal. I know it's just suggestions but if they want you to pay for this and use this for best results don't make it shame you for every meal you eat. I was told that my fruit bowl was “too high in processed sugar and I should try something lighter next time”!!! How much lighter can I get than a single apple with a few grapes? The only meals that got a ok result were ones where I literally had a single grape in the picture. That's not how healthy eating works; it's not just eating as light as possible. I was getting so stressed trying to make the meals so they would pass this stupid analysis and it's not possible or healthy.
