Cannot avoid clicking ads

The app design is such that when scrolling CBC News on my phone, the scrolling launches the ads automatically even when I try assiduously to never touch them. I presume this is because the links extend beyond the borders of the visible ad image. I am so annoyed at having Expedia, in particular, repeatedly launch whenever I tried to read the news. This is unacceptable for one of the only free reputable news sources available to Canadian taxpayers. This business practice feels underhanded.

Impossible to scroll

Can touch an add while scrolling without getting bumped out of the app, makes reading a story extremely frustrating.

Stop asking if I want your cookies

I am asked to accept cookies virtually every time I open the app.

Annoying Preferences

Fix the darn app! Even when signed in, most every time I open the app the preferences confirmation screen pops up first.

Freezes

This app was my every morning coffee and news go to but since the latest update I’ve noticed my iPad getting fairly warm and starting to freeze. Full page ads, the ways ads are presented are starting to look like the same method used by the CTV news app, causing frequent slowdowns and freezing so bad it takes repeated attempts to get out of the app. Now, I have to read the news at my computer instead, not exactly convenient for me.

Wish I could roll back the update so I could enjoy reading the news with my morning coffee again.

Account?

Need an account to access news. No thanks

They fix one thing and more thing crumble

So they fixed the annoyance that the main video started for a bit then came the commercials then the rest of the video minus the but at the beginning.

Now it’s the whole screen ads that if you’re not careful might accidentally select and then that begets months of ads everywhere which you are not interested in anyway.

Then there’s the late loading of ads which can screw up your place in the article because now suddenly your a page or more into the news article. I just quit the app and go somewhere else.

CBC ENDED HNIC

WE WANT HNIC- SCREW YOU CBC.

Very difficult to search

I am a senior and I find this app very disappointing

Buggy

This app has coding bugs that result in video clips previously viewed re-opening, and no feature or button will put it away again. App must be closed and re-opened to recover. Insufficient testing before release.

Ads make the article jump around

This app is terrible. When you’re reading an article ads show up that make it shift up and down the screen and you lose your place of what you’re reading. It is maddening. All they have to do is put in placeholders for any size ad that they have so that the article doesn’t jump around. Just another poorly designed app.

great news!

like the app

Doesn’t work after latest update

All I see is No internet connection. Pretty sure I have one!

account?

the requirement to make an account is ridiculous, will not be doing that.

fraudulent ad garbage

i hold CBC to a higher standard so, when I see inline ads served showing fraudulent garbage I am deeply disappointed. Such a lack of due diligence and oversight causes me to question the veracity and professionalism (already the writers and editors have allowed to creep in too many words with Usonian spelling) of the news offered by the app.

New Font

A while ago this app changed the font and for people like me who are vision impaired has been the greatest improvement! I can read the news now! Without magnifying it . Thank you!! Can you tell me the name of the font so I can use it on my devices?

Definitely prioritized “interesting” and “fun” articles over informative or necessary articles

At this point in time, I want updates on the war, my city, politics, and anything else that might directly impact my future, I don’t care about celebrities or drama or any of the events going on.

Account requirement

Was a good app until they forced you to create an account just to see the news. Really terrible to have to create yet another account that needs to be maintained just to access content that’s free on the web. Please consider removing this requirement and allowing people to skip the account step. Won’t be using the app until it no longer requires an account.
