Mandatory subscription

Why lock people out of this app without a subscription.
As buggy and unstable as this app is, I have no intention in sharing my data with it.

Equivalent to Fox News

Definitely skews the news against the liberal party and supports Polieve.

Also, I’m done with all of the advertisements riddled within this app. It’s better to open up in a privacy browser, restricting the advertisements and actually reading the news.

Why lock us out.

Not everyone has new tablets or iPhones. My tablet, an iPad, works just fine for surfing the Internet, watching Netflix or many other things that require video. Somehow, magically, the CBC news app will no longer let me access it unless I have iOS 16. I do not and I’m not buying a new iPad to watch free CDC. If Netflix can make it work Shirley CBC can. I can see all the previews on my screen but it won’t let me open until I upgrade my app and I can’t do that without upgrading my system. My tablet is too old to operate. Please, CBC isFunded by taxpayers so please don’t phase out older systems.

Can’t load and won’t allow me to open

Typical IT issue…

Good but, come on!

This app has had its share of issues over the years. It was really annoying to have to repeatedly sign in again after every update they made, though that seems to have been resolved. It works be nice if I wasn’t repeatedly redirected to advertising when trying to scroll articles though. Seriously, in one article, an involuntary ad touch should not take me out if the app more than once. Five times in one article makes me want to delete the thing entirely. Please fix this!

Pretty good

This is a pretty good news app. My one beef with it is that you can get pretty far down the list of articles and read one. Then when you go back to the main page, it takes you back to the top instead of where you left off in the list. And if you’ve gone pretty deep, you have to go and find where you were to resume looking at articles. I find it at some point I just give up and don’t go down the list again.

Annoying Undesired Ad Launches

I cannot get through one single article without launching one or more sponsor apps (usually Amazon or Expedia) even when the page is still scrolling. It is impossible to scroll through an article without triggering the redirects. Fix this supremely annoying issue.

Not too bad

I like the news coverage.

Cbc is obsessed with using the terms 'Ottawa' to refer to the federal government actions.

Plus the same for other government cities.

Confusing and weird.

Latest F/O moment in the app

First of all, finding out extreme critique reviews are being deleted from review chain.

So freakin shameful that cbc’s tech partner has stopped to this type of model.

Now for the latest F/O moment using the app, stop making your ads pause my music while I’m reading your stories.

Needs filters

Wish I could filter by date. Older stories hang around for too long. Wish I could select “no repeats” so stories don’t show up in more than one section.

Scrolling redirects

I have average sized fingers for a man, and I find it impossible to scroll through the news stories on the app without constantly being redirected to advertiser websites. This is in addition to being redirected to specific ‘regions’ when I try to scroll the main news page with my left hand, and inadvertently make contact with the tiny region hyperlinks.

It’s annoying and frustrating to use this app.

Broken

App update broke usability. And now I have to create an account? They lost me - deleted.

DOA

Updated to 8.11 to fix the “Oops” error on an older version, and now it claims I have no internet connection, when I clearly do.

App not working

App stopped working so I deleted and redownloaded and now can’t sign in. Just spins and it doesn’t let you view anything without signing in now. Fix the app and stop with the sign in requirement when it’s all free

App gone downhill

App has gone downhill since requiring an account to read the news. The log in process is slow and doesn’t work 100%

Useless app

Today can’t sign in, can’t skip, can’t create an account. Can get to CBC. Guess I’ll have to stick with CTV

App is broken

You have to sign in everytime you open the app so it's not even usable

Advertisements that kill your joy at attempting to read the news

Previously it was the full device screen ads that you often had to open the ad you were not interested in to get the screen to scroll. That has been fixed.

Now there are these ads that you scroll up to the point you are reading and the add keeps creeping you text lower and lower — talking about buzzkill for wanting to actually use the app.

Also, the delayed start, that is usually when it’s a video, it plays the ads a couple of seconds into the start of the video so a minutes worth of video and you’ve lost those first few words … why can’t they get this right? Play the commercials BEFORE the video starts … please!

Cannot avoid clicking ads

The app design is such that when scrolling CBC News on my phone, the scrolling launches the ads automatically even when I try assiduously to never touch them. I presume this is because the links extend beyond the borders of the visible ad image. I am so annoyed at having Expedia, in particular, repeatedly launch whenever I tried to read the news. This is unacceptable for one of the only free reputable news sources available to Canadian taxpayers. This business practice feels underhanded.

Impossible to scroll

Can touch an add while scrolling without getting bumped out of the app, makes reading a story extremely frustrating.
