What's New in Datatool

2.8.2

October 28, 2026

What's new - Clearer driver on Driver Behaviour: each vehicle now shows its default driver as "Default driver", so it is clear the score is the vehicle's, not one person's. - Better Spanish: the app's Spanish text has been reviewed and corrected throughout, so it reads naturally and uses the same words everywhere. - Better French, German and Italian: the app's text in these languages has been reviewed and improved. - Countries in your language: the country list for phone numbers now shows country names in the app's language. - A guide to the new Phone Tag screen: a short guide to what has changed is in App Settings › Help. - Clearer filters on Alerts and Journeys: the filters you have on now show as a short summary, such as "12 journeys · 2 filters on", with a Clear button that keeps your chosen date range. - A new Phone Tag screen: a clearer status that shows when your phone is searching, connecting or has unlocked your vehicle, simpler adding and switching of vehicles, and warnings when something like Bluetooth or the immobiliser setting stops Phone Tag working. - Phone Tag status on your vehicle: the vehicle card and vehicle details now show whether Phone Tag is searching, connecting or connected. - Try the new Phone Tag design early: a banner on Phone Tag offers the new design, and Settings has a Design previews page where you can switch back to the classic design at any time. - Clearer permission screens: each permission explains what it's used for, and if you've turned one off the app shows you how to turn it back on in Settings. Bug fixes - Tips after reinstalling: reinstalling the app no longer brings back all the introduction tips. - iPad menu and screens: the menu bar is back at the bottom of the screen with clearly visible icons, and screens no longer start with a large empty gap under their title. - Signing in on iPad with several accounts: choosing which account to sign in to no longer leaves the password field stuck. - Text on US-English phones: some labels, such as the vehicle card immobiliser badge, showed internal codes instead of words on phones set to US English. - Defender alarm screen titles: the alarm screens' titles, such as the alarm history, now show in your language instead of English. - Defender alarm in your language: the alarm screen and its history now name what set the alarm off (door, boot, tilt and so on) in the app's language. - Vehicle types in Japanese and Russian: some vehicle type names were shown in the wrong alphabet. - Extended warranty status: an active extended warranty no longer shows as expired, and an expired one no longer shows as active. - Fewer surprise sign-outs on restricted networks: when hotel or office Wi-Fi blocks the app, it now offers Retry instead of signing you out or saying your email has no account.

Map not working

Please fix the map location of the device, and it’s just currently pointing in the middle of the ocean, I’ll update the rating then

Excellent Service

I’ve been a user for over 6 years. The app works faultlessly with developers even listening and action on rider feedback. More importantly every single interaction I’ve had with the human side of this business has been first class.

Comparison with BikeTrac

Very similar to the closest competitor BikeTrac, however BikeTrac wins because it has the option to set the voltage for the “low battery” alert. By the time you get an alert with Datatool the battery is dead

Needs some adjustment

Over all the app is a good companion for the tracker but using it as a tag has some issues as I keep getting calls for bike moving without a tag despite checking it had connected before setting off and the notification for connecting and disconnecting doesn’t always happen which is annoying so I have to look on the app to check for confirmation either way.
It would also be nice if we got movement detection notifications through the app as an option instead of just having a limited number of text messages.
Also the map could do with being a bit more accurate as I’m finding the bike location is always 5-8 meters away from the actual location.

FAQ

What does the Datatool app do?

The Datatool app allows owners to view the real-time location of their motorcycle or scooter. It also provides access to journey history and enables G-Sense crash detection alerts. Users can manage their account details and communicate directly with the dedicated 24/7/365 Datatool Monitoring Team.

How does the theft notification service work?

The Datatool system activates automatically when the ignition is switched off and monitors for unauthorized movement. If movement is detected without the ignition being on, it enters alert mode and notifies the Datatool Monitoring Team. This team will then contact the owner and liaise with the Police to aid recovery.

Is the Datatool app free to use?

The app itself is free to download and use. However, it requires the Datatool system to be installed on the motorcycle or scooter by an authorized dealer or mobile installer. The cost of the system and installation would be separate.

What are the system requirements for the Datatool app?

This app requires the Datatool system to be professionally installed on your motorcycle or scooter. The app then connects to this installed system to provide its tracking and notification features. You will need to find an authorized dealer for installation.

Can I use this app for any vehicle?

The Datatool system and app are designed specifically for scooters and motorcycles. While it offers advanced tracking and theft notification, it is tailored to the needs of two-wheeled vehicle owners.
