Accurate translation
I use the app for German, French and other languages regularly and in the browsers too on iOS and Mac. The accuracy of translation and understanding of context is excellent. 2 limitations of the app: No offline translations. This is very helpful when there's no network or it's poor. This is a plus in Google. The other one is handwriting. When I want to explore translations of languages like Greek, Kannada etc it's easier to write by hand . This would be a nice feature to have

Used to love this app, but…
I don’t know why, but the quality and functionality of this app has been totally ruined the past few updates. I use it for Japanese primarily and the “alternative sentences” function no longer works, the camera translate function (where you take a picture through the app rather than import one) no longer works on vertical text… I love DeepL so I don’t *want* to give a low rating, but it’s really upsetting to watch a once-reliable app become so useless.

Pra mim esse era o melhor tradutor, agora com muitas atualizações bugs e IA o app ficou horrível sempre aparece que está offline, traduções péssimas, infelizmente tive que parar de usar.

Great translation but if like me you are trying to learn a language ( Spanish) when you hit the speaker to hear the translation, it is so fast it’s almost impossible to understand

I don’t know what sort of update you’ve made to your app, but it’s now unusable!
If there were a few errors before, now it’s making up sentences all on its own, getting the grammar, context and meaning completely wrong!
It doesn’t detect the language correctly and every now and then it switches to German on its own. Then, if you write in one language, for example, but include some business English terms, it gets completely confused

Latest update killed it
New screen is too wide, and doesn’t scale down, so 1/4 of graphics/texts are cropped off and impossible to read all.

Unusable! It used to be good, with very decent EU Portuguese… Then you became lazy and started to use google’s database with Brazilian Portuguese (very different). Now it simply doesn’t translate! Bafio in Portuguese it’s not Bafio in English!! It doesn’t find the transaction for “ogling” and does not translate “manjerico” correctly either !? It’s getting worse with each update! It doesn’t translate lots of EU Portuguese, it shows just the same text ‘translated’, as the text I type! What a disappointment! It used to be so good and now it’s closer to any other american translator, with so many inaccuracies!!!!! Wrong translations: I chosen this app, ‘cause it used to be the most accurate on EU Portuguese translations … However the last two updates, have brought this closer to Google Translate (terrible) translations! In other words lots of English > Portuguese translations are now closer to Brazilian which is very different to EU Portuguese! I also found it cannot even translate “abrunho”, neither “cadelinhas”, nor “amêijoa” 😩

Update problems
It has been a good translator for a long time; however, there is an issue with the suggestions section. Since the last update, it is no longer possible to choose word-for-word suggestions. Furthermore, when you want to write a long paragraph, no alternative is offered. Other than that, the experience is good.

Best translator for Latin American Spanish I’ve found
This has actual LatAm Spanish translation. I do wish there was a preference setting for JUST the languages I’m interested in. Toggling between two is great, but some time it changes to detest language and makes navigating much more painful. Maybe also a setting to turn off detection.
Stopped using due to lack of landscape mode.
I had been using Google Translate as a companion app to my Spanish learning app but switched to DeepL because of the superior translation features (Example: The “Alternatives” function) but I had to switch back to Google Translate (not my preferred choice) because DeepL is missing a simple useability feature - no landscape mode. Maybe I have a niche requirement, I don’t know, but…my main use of a translator app is as a companion to language learning apps. I put my phone on a stand beside my iPad to listen and use DeepL to translate the various exercises. No matter the volume, sometimes DeepL doesn’t pick up the sound from the iPad. To solve this problem I want to turn my iPhone on its side to place the phone microphone closer to the iPad speaker. However, when I do that, DeepL stays in portrait mode and I can’t read the translations. Google Translate DOES have landscape mode and automatically switches to landscape mode. When I put my phone on its side on the stand it picks up the audio better AND I can read the translations so I had to go back to using Google Translate. Not for translation features, but for useability. Sad, but true.

You’re being out classed by Google Translate and others
Your fixation on getting rich quicker is impacted the prestige and choice of a translation app… it is becoming financially eough to have, and because you are focusing on that route you are making it useless and frustrating as one cannot even appreciate the merits of the app…. So, jump into the Google app, which is getting better and better, that still needs to cover more languages and dialects… That’s my take… Deepl used to be my favorite app… Some us Translate by Kagi, it is also, free

Was good, not anymore
It used to be so good. The translation was spot on and gave great informal alternatives instead of using the formal way of what needed to be translated.
Now, it’s a mix of many different dialects that are not accurate and especially when it comes to the gender specific message you input it with. For example, I put “she” in and it comes back with a translated text that is for “he”.
I don’t know what update they made to change this but now I am starting to look for other translation apps because this one is becoming more and more inaccurate. These details matter and you had it down perfect before.

Needs to improve the camera translation efficiency—too slow
Much better at translating than Google and nearly all other competitors, however, the speed of camera translation is way too slow so I almost always choose Google instead. In most real world use cases time is critical, and waiting/freezing for almost 5 seconds isn’t really acceptable and made it much less useful.

Quality has dropped
This USED to be the best translation app I had ever used, genuinely. I do know a lot of Spanish but sometimes if I’m needing to translate quickly or didn’t know a certain word I would use the app, and it was always correct…until recently. Idk what update happened or what it did, but the words it uses for Spanish translation are no longer correct!!! It’s so messed up now. I live in Mexico and my husband is Mexican…he used to confirm that translations were right and now we both look at things like wtf..wording is all wrong. I hate whatever happened. I swear this was in the last update or two, just here recently in the past few months. Please fix the Spanish!!!

Best Translation App out there but you can’t download for offline
this is the best translation app in the game. I love that you can find alternatives that sound more natural or closer to what you wanted to say. And I’m so glad that Catalina was added. But the fact that you can’t download language languages like Google Translate is a shame.
Dialects.
The app is 100% accurate but why is it so hard to get dialects? I’m trying to translate words into American English yet it translates into the British version and it’s really hard to try to choose to dialect, I have to struggle in order to get the one I’m trying to translate like I don’t want Swiss or Austrian German, GOD! But other than that the app is absolutely amazing and I’ll change it into 5 stars when that gets fixed.
