Do not update
Update broke my device, it no longer reads pit temperature. Was mid cook and things working perfectly, update applied automatically and even with a spare brand new probe, the device won’t read
Never connects
It’s a good piece of kits when it works. Unfortunately it drops connection and ‘device can’t be found’ each time you take it out to cook. Zero from me
Save Your Money and Frustrations
This Egg Genius is a POS - it is a hassle every time I use it since the beginning. Constantly having to add it back to the app and never works. Do not depend on this if you plan on smoking.
It’s was smoking made simple, and then it updated
I’ve had it since 2018, and for some stretches it worked great - but now there’s always an issue. The alerts aren’t reliable, the fan is impatiently trying to raise or lower the temperature too quickly. It’ll eventually blow out my coals if I don’t catch it.
I have a medium egg and sometimes it feels like it’s trying to oxygenate an XL running full blast - then all of a sudden it’ll stave the flame until it’s out, then flood it again with full fan to try and recover eventually blowing it out.
There was a time when I could use it almost like an oven, now I feel like I’m probably better off going old school and just using the vents. The egg can be pretty consistent over a long cook with just the vents, but the egg genius - not a chance anymore.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend it now. Maybe there should be a setting for different sizes? They need to get it going again, that’s all I do know.

Very buggy
Frustrating App
Never connected
This thing is pretty much worthless when it doesn't connect to the internet. Getting it to link is the worst and the "help" they give you to work this is non-existent. I have had trouble since day 1 getting this to connect to WiFi.
Terrible tech
I am beyond disappointed at the complete lack of effort BGE put into the app they created for what is otherwise a great product. It’s clunky and works about 20% of the time at best.
Updates have broken a good thing
I’m having the same issue others are. The app doesn’t connect evenly after all the updates.
Genius my eye
Will not connect to my device sitting right next to it. Won’t even connect to the FB local network
Breaks down.
In four years I have had two. Work fine the first year each then the second years they don’t work well until they don’t work.
Great App
Great app - extremely useful and informative. Seeing the graphs is a game changer.
A feature I’d love to see would be to export data as a .csv!

Constantly has the be restarted. Chart doesn’t update correctly. Almost impossible to use.
Can someone just ask the AI bots to redo this. Or just go back to the old version which worked just fine for years!!

Look for a different temp controller for Egg
Purchased device a few years ago and it was great - freedom to cook a brisket and sleep was wonderful.
Recently the fan device stopped connecting to the app; I updated to 6.7.24 and still unable to connect reliably. Help in the app points to manuals with no troubleshooting tips. When attempting to connect I get an error message that states “unable to connect” and when you acknowledge the error the app then states connection successful.

140 is minimum temp???
Your developers have ruined this software. I want my steaks cooked to 120 degrees and the lowest the software will accept is 140! Who are you to determine how I can cook my steak? For the price you have to pay for the hardware, I expect way more in the software. I will be moving to ChefsTemp!

DONT RESTRICT MEAT TEMPS
App is forcing a meat temp between 140-220!!! I use reverse sear method all the time and REQUIRE 120, why mess this up? It was working before

This product has always been severely over priced. With recent updates your software has chime from good to bad! As of this moment I cannot set a meat temperature less than 150 degrees!!! I am cooking steak and want it medium rare. So I now have to sit and watch the app!!! I will be leaving this product and your software behind!!!

Bad update
I’ve used it for a number of years with great success. This Christmas I smoked a turkey and the system kept disconnecting. Thankfully the machine stayed on task but I couldn’t see it. For Christmas Day it totally failed eventually and had to unplug it and start a new cook. Almost burned my prime rib as it let the temp get way too hot while reporting the temp was falling. My next one will be a cheap one rather than the BGE brand

Garbage
Not sure who they have updating this app, but they obviously have no idea what they are doing!it used to be a good product, now it’s just junk! Don’t waster your money! There are other products that actually work!
