What's New in Expensease

0.6.5

August 25, 2026

Guests — the people you split with who aren't on Expensease: • You can now see everyone you've added as a guest in one place, under Friends, with what they owe you or you owe them. • Add, rename and remove a guest from there, instead of only being able to create one mid-way through adding an expense. • Add a guest to a group, so trips can include people who never install the app. • Removing a guest now works once you've actually squared up with them. It used to refuse forever, even after they'd paid you back. • If someone claims a guest you created as their own account, you'll now get asked to approve it. Previously those requests could never be answered. Travelling with a group, where everyone's money cost them something different: • A trip can now settle in one currency. Turn on "Settle in one currency" in group settings, pick what you want to square up in, and everything converts to it. • You never type an exchange rate. You just say what happened at the counter — "I paid ₹9,600, I received $100" — and Expensease works out that your dollars cost ₹96 each. Bought at two different rates? Add both; we weight them by how much you changed. • Bought local currency with dollars you already had? Just say so. Expensease follows what those particular dollars cost you, however many hops back. • Exchange fees count. ₹9,400 plus a ₹200 commission for $100 really is ₹96 a dollar, and we treat it that way. • Cash and a forex card are different money. If you have both, we ask which one you used — and if you only have one, we never ask at all. • Spent more than you've told us about? We value the part we know and quietly ask about the rest, instead of guessing or refusing to save your expense. • Nothing gets rewritten behind you. Adding a rate today never changes what last week's dinner cost — but correcting something you bought *earlier* does update what came after it, and says so. • All optional. Trips carry on exactly as before unless you turn it on. For trips where everyone brings a different currency: • A trip can now settle in ONE currency. Turn on "Trip currency" in group settings, pick the currency you want to square up in, and everything converts to it automatically. • Each person enters what they actually paid for their foreign cash — "I bought 500 dollars at 86.20" — and their own spending is valued at their own rate. If you got a better rate than your friends, you keep that benefit on the money you laid out. Bought at two different rates? Add both; we weight them by how much you changed. • Rates are locked in at the moment an expense is recorded, so adding or fixing a rate later never quietly rewrites what last week's dinner cost. • Everything is optional and off unless you turn it on. Trips carry on working exactly as before, one balance per currency.
