App update is terrible
The app update ruined the reliability. Constantly disconnects, doesn’t update meat temp, doesn’t run properly in the background. Ruined a great product, and I cant understand how the app went backwards. It’s been so reliable for a lot of years. Now, it sucks.
App has degraded
I used to love this app but in the last year it disconnects constantly and I can’t get it to work with my watch. After years of being able to use my watch anywhere to monitor. Very disappointing.
Not too impressed
Each time I start a cook and name it/set it up, about ten mins in the app starts a new cook, then when I go into history to see the cook I actually set up, it kicks me out and goes to the new cook that it automatically created. The reason for two stars is the device at least holds the temp that I set. For the price of the product, I expected a lot more from the app.

App keeps getting worse
5 years ago the app was awesome and easily connected. Now it’s terrible. Takes forever to sync and needs to resync every time you open the app. Something changed and now it’s such a pain to use.
Awful
It would be nice if your app and controller worked on holidays, you know, when people want to use their smoker.
Terrible, used to be great
I’ve used the app for years and it’s now barely functional. Constantly drops out and resets cooks. Almost unusable.
Connectivity
Getting the Egg Genius to connect to any of the apps is a waste of time. It doesn’t connect to the correct Wi-Fi that I have. We’re great when I first got it now it’s garbage really disappointed in it.
A sad example how to do a great product useless
After several updates the app still having communication problems to be able to see the temps I need to close and reopen the app constantly. Yesterday also I used the last update and now I can't set the meat temp below 140 F. Before was 100 F. For me is very important because I do a lot of reverse searing. Maybe is time to start my search for a new controller.

Reliable App Turned Frustrating and Unusable
It used to be a simple and reliable application, but the latest update completely ruined it. They moved everything to a cloud-based infrastructure, and now the app constantly loses connection. It’s become unreliable and frustrating to use, and you can’t depend on it when you actually need it. Most of the time, you’re forced to use a desktop or laptop just to check the temperature, which defeats the whole purpose of having the app.

Updates make it useless
Unfortunately, the most recent round of updates for this app have rendered the alert system useless. It no longer will update you with your meat temp or the pit temp via text or messaging unless you have the app actively open. Why would I need alarms or messaging if my phone is on and the app is open. My confidence in this unit’s ability to alert me if my pit is having a problem or my meat has reached the desired temperature has fallen to nearly 0. Without a fix for this via update on the software, I would look at precision temperature or a different grill control device.

Fix the app!!!
How can I go back to an old version?? Whatever happened a few months ago has really made your product horrible to use. I no longer recommend it as I can’t connect easily to the smoker anymore. This use to be awesome, now not so much…
Good product overall – recent issues need fixing
This is a great product, but recently, it’s been getting a little wonky. Difficult to connect to Wi-Fi and now over the past week or so, can’t set meat done temperature to less than 150. If you’re trying to reverse sear your steak, not helpful at all. Please fix this.
Update broke my favorite gadget
I don’t know who thought updating the app was a good idea, but clearly they must be part of venture Capitol… Because they managed to break a really good thing, this sucks.
App does not connect
I have tirelessly attempted to connect the app to my genius and it will not conclude the connection to adjust temp setting etc. genius worked great and after the app change it has been severed and making the fan worthless
Connectivity is a mess
The connectivity on the iPhone app is terrible. So bad as to be unusable. I have to resort to their browser based myflameboss.com site which is reliable. Very bad app design for iPhone. It’s because they are using websockets instead of cloud only or polling
Do Not Buy
The worst. Wasted hours. No customer support.
Flame boss
The update is awesome, great job.
Not reliable on holidays
After my flame boss 200 was no longer supported. I upgraded to the 500 which is the top of the line model. On the 200 it would work nearly air free except on holidays and the server would get overloaded and it would struggle on holidays. This year Thanksgiving with my turkey I had issues, Christmas with a prime roast I had issues, and now on New Year’s Day just trying to do pulled pork. I’m having issues after updating to the newest version that was released on December 31st. The issues with this latest version are so bad that I can’t even get it to recognize my device and I’m struggling to even use the mobile app at all. The controller itself seems to be holding temp and staying and doing its job, but the mobile app is utterly useless. Since the upgrade to the 500 every time I open the app, it has to reconnect and refine the device and takes a while to populate temperature. Our data and many times takes a hard close and then a reopen to populate anything. It definitely has taken a step back. Note: I work on mobile apps as a product manager.

Bad Update
I have owned this controller for years and it has been great. Whatever the last update is has made it terrible. The computer loses connectivity every couple of minutes. The cook history is not in any type of newest to oldest order and also the search function no longer works. The connectivity caused my cook to reset several times and lose all history.

App doesn’t allow local monitoring
The new updated app is not working for me. Local and cloud monitoring don’t work
