Love the new look, but it seems that someone is signing me out for a laugh which means that I must sign back in and this behaviour won’t be tolerated.
Not social media
I’ve had a Flickr account for close to nineteen years. It has never felt like social media, but a platform that thrives particularly on the desktop, not mobile devices, and prioritises photography, not self promotion. It has enabled me to connect with like minds around the globe. Those that love art, love pictures, and understand these things beyond superficiality. It has become a community I enjoy smart exchanges with - sometimes simply fun, other times rather high-minded - but in either case has a strong connective base. Long live Flickr.

I love Flickr it has allowed me to be free about me. I was quite upset when my account was deleted because of a comment I made. I was talking to other gay men and to loose my account and my friends was wrong but with any site we have no way of trying to fix the wrong! It’s not fair to us in the gay community! I admit I don’t comment like a Sunday school teacher or interact with my fellow brothers. My pics and videos were my property you can put a 2000 page community guidelines but to delete my image goes against me my friends and our sel expression! Flickr is the best of the best no one can compete with you! I appoligize for my comment but it’s facts it’s truth and because I said words that offende someone why were they even in the realm of gay men interacting? Thank you Flickr Smugmug I question your name and you gave me grief and my work my self expression you wronged me !

I’ve been using Flickr since 2012 and it is the only place I put my photos. I love Flickr.

New interface
Well, like many I was staggered at the completely new release of the rebuilt app. Sadly it was none functional, probable or obviously not tested, and a complete waste of time. Thankfully common sense prevailed and the perfectly working previous version was re-released. I have to pass on my thanks to the contact team for their detailed information on raising my concerns. Like I said, if it isn’t broken - don’t fix it.

It isn’t hyperbole to say that the last 22 years of my life is documented on Flickr. You can’t see it anymore because most of it set to private now, but I learned how to take pictures with Flickr- and had 15 years of the most amazing job I could ever imagine thanks to Flickr. I met some of my best friends thanks to Flickr. I’ve traveled the world hanging out with people thanks to Flickr. I don’t know if I use hyperbole correctly. My point is that-Flickr is the thing that when asked, I would say as the one thing I would grab when I was running out of a burning house. Except except for the fact that I don’t have to grab it. It’s safe. , honestly that’s my only fear. What would I do with out Flickr ? How would I see my pictures? How would I be able to scroll through 20 years? Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s pretty awesome. I appreciate it. I’ll keep using you and paying for it. (And thank u for buying them and saving them the only time I was ever worried about losing a technology. Technically wise, I have used almost every or tried every photo archiving system and Flickr is the best cloud driven personal photo sharing organization system there is. Hands down. You make 🍎s photos weep at what it might have been. )
Anyway, I feel pretty vulnerable putting out that I don’t know what I would do without Flickr. Even though I don’t use any of the social aspects that were a huge part of my life for years. But there it is.

Update: they reverted to the old, good version of the app. Yay! This is once again an excellent app. Nice design, nice layout, self explanatory to use. Great!
Previous review: The old version was a fantastic app. Everything was clear and visible and nicely laid out. You could expand photos to fill the screen. The new version is a steaming pile. The layout is annoying, everything is weirdly placed and not self explanatory, and you can no longer view photos full screen.

Glass more than half-full
Your rollback was a good decision, but this debacle made me reexamine my Flickr “experience”. This place is mostly just the social media rat race with photos. People who selfishly bulk follow simply to hope for a bigger audience for themselves through reciprocity. Simply fave for a fave. Practically no meaningful interaction (you might as well remove comments and just have faves). Anyhow, I still hang out a tiny bit at Flickr for now, but I’ve mainly moved on to Glass.

Shockingly bad update - thankfully rolled back
Update released with numerous bugs and basic functionality removed (eg unable to swipe between photos). Made the app not fit for purpose. Did Flickr test any of this with their users before implementation? Did not seem like it. Fortunately they were quick to react to adverse customer feedback and made the welcome decision to roll back to the previous fully working version within a week. Hopefully the next update will be fully functional and properly tested before release.
