Google Assistant is being phased out on phones in favor of Gemini and this classic app will disappear from most app stores by the end of 2026. You don’t need to uninstall it right now just wait for the transition. The classic Google Assistant is still on iPhones that haven’t been upgraded yet and it’s also on low end or older devices. You don’t have to uninstall the classic Google Assistant (THIS APP) before or after downloading GEMINI. Once it’s installed Gemini will take over & the old app “Google Assistant”will stop working on that device anyway.

Very limited in scope
I tried to do a very simple thing. Upload an image of a schedule and have Assistant create the calendar events. This doesn't work since there's no camera or upload button. First it claimed to be able to do what I wanted, but couldn't answer when asked about how to upload a photo. It kept asking about when the event was. If I wanted to manually type in the event, I would have done so myself. Complete waste of time.

Garbage
The fact that I have to download three different apps to do one thing on my device is ridiculous and they do it because they got money for each download and then they give us no customer support Absolute garbage. I would prefer one app rather than having to use multiple all for the same thing they all interconnect so what is the point other than you just wanna make an extra buck and not provide us any customer service awesome but not like we have a lot of choices.

Slow and buggy
Doesn’t work with Sonos speaker. Answers something weird every time. Says it is playing music while it isn’t. When pointed, says I don’t understand or I am AI or I get things wrong. Totally unhelpful in the age of true AI.
Better than siri
Siri has never been able to find a specific thing I want and google assistant can just find it instantly
Loss of functions
App now tells you to update to latest version of the app for functionality but there is no new version available. Used to use this every day now I almost never use and will probably delete soon.
Goggle Assistant Review
So, after testing Google AI with a couple of other AI models, i did notice some things. Google Assistant is pretty good with sort queries or short commands. However, sometimes when you ask more complex questions, it often times struggles and spits out the response sorry i don’t understand. Now Copilot and some other ai providers seem to handle complex queries pretty well. When i tried to ask google how to turn on my google nest hub gen 2 nightlight, it was like i don’t understand. When i asked my trusty ai friend copilot, it had no trouble at all guiding me through my google Nest Hub set up. Google assistant ai seems like its for small tasks. Just my honest opinion.

Suddenly doesn’t wanna play any playlists
This app used to be pretty good. I could play any playlist from my Apple Music account. It no longer plays anything or it plays something completely random that’s not on my playlist. It’s become completely useless.
So sad.
So many features where widdled away by Google over the years, sure, but this is too much. Gemini can't even play the news. Makes me just want to get a regular kitchen radio. What's the point of all this??

There are many times where Assistant is unable to do things I want it to do (set reminders for further out than 24 hours, set multiple timers or alarms) and then it feels like most AI apps are created to do things no one needs or wants. Also, I don't know what happened to the Assistant voice I used to have but I dislike immensely all of the options now available.

Don’t even bother downloading this app. It’s going to be shutting down any day now. They announced last year that Assistant will be replaced by Gemini.

Always loved it. But now you’ve broken this wonderful tool. It will no longer play any routines. It won’t read the news. It won’t do anything. It just says “Sorry, I don’t understand”

Used to be great, loved catching up on the news through this app. Google have updated it so it's broken, can't do that anymore and likely other features. Google don't be surprised that I'll never pay money for any of your services or use your ecosystem when alternatives exist, while you are still pulling stunts like this. Kill the app or fix it
