Gunsmith Bench

Your bench work decides the group. Twelve firearms across four classes. Build each one part by part, tune what makes it run, clean what makes it accurate, and zero the sights. Then fire ten rounds and find out what your hands were worth. This is not a shooter. It is a workshop. FIVE STAGES BETWEEN YOU AND A GOOD GROUP 1 - ASSEMBLE Every part into its own socket, in the order the action goes together. The next part is named at the top and its socket glows. This one is about speed. 2 - THE TUNE, DIFFERENT FOR EVERY CLASS Pistols: compress each recoil spring and let go inside a narrow band. The ram accelerates the longer you hold, so short presses win. Submachine guns: load fifteen rounds by hand. The magazine mouth narrows as the spring stacks up under them. Machine guns: the barrel is glowing. Glove up, unlatch it, pull it to the rack and fit the cool spare before it warps. A bare hand on hot steel is a burn. Sniper rifles: dial the called magnification and pull the sight picture sharp. Four pictures, against the clock. 3 - CLEAN THE BORE Drag the rod back and forth. Heavy fouling takes a lot of passes. Keep scrubbing a patch that is already clean and you wear the rifling - and pay for it downrange. 4 - ZERO THE SIGHTS Fire a group, read where it landed, dial the sights the other way. Four groups to bring it to centre. The rifle's true offset is hidden. You only ever see the holes. 5 - LIVE FIRE Ten rounds at the target. Nothing to do now but watch. HOW IT ADDS UP Assembly, springs and bore condition set how tight the group is. Your zero sets how far off centre it lands. Full-auto arms climb as they cycle. A sloppy bench day puts rounds off the paper; a careful one drills the middle. Each shot scores out of a hundred by how close it lands, so ten rounds make a thousand.
