Cannot be used without account

Edit: just let people use the app without an account with just reading access.

Response from developer

That is correct. To ensure the safety and quality of our community, we require users to create an account. In the past, we have found it difficult to monitor the platform effectively without this requirement, leading to instances of inappropriate content. Requiring an account helps us maintain a positive, high-quality experience for all aurora chasers.

Please fix

I have used this app for several years and liked it but now something has gone wrong.
Please look into this!
I live in Iceland and am a guide all over Iceland. Last night (this morning sep 6 at 4am) we had wonderful aurora in the capital area but app would NOT allow me to report it or share photos stating none could be visible at this time. Please look into this!

Thank you so much for using the app over the years, I’m really glad to hear you’ve enjoyed it! I’m sorry you weren’t able to report your aurora sighting. The report feature is based on probability calculations, and since your sighting happened at an unusual time, it may have slipped through the system. I have checked the activity during the date and time you mentioned, the aurora oval passed at 03:30 am and the activity was weak which could be the reason why it won't allow you to report it. I have been thinking about the possibility and we have had non-aurora photo reported in the early morning in the past while I aim to make the calculations as accurate as possible, there can occasionally be small gaps. I’ve already made a little tweak to improve this, and I truly appreciate your feedback and support. I’d be grateful if you could consider updating your review, and I look forward to seeing more of your aurora reports in the app! And do not to reach out to me at contact@hello-aurora.com if you encounter any issue. I would be more than happy to hear from you. Wish you best best aurora season ahead!

Requires registration

Just another stupid, arrogant developer who requires registration to use the app. The only reason is to collect personal data and sell or give it away!!
That means immediate deletion.
Fokking fáviti!!!

Not working

The app won’t get past the email verification screen, despite me successfully verifying my email address. I clicked through for ‘app support’ but it just takes me to the main ‘hello aurora’ website.

Response from developer

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience. We truly appreciate your patience and apologise for the delayed response. On the day you add the review, our app experienced a surge in traffic, which briefly caused some service disruptions. This might have been the reason for the issue you encountered. We’d love to investigate further and assist you in resolving this. Please feel free to contact us at contact@hello-aurora.com, and we’ll be happy to help. Thank you for your understanding, and we’re here to ensure you have the best experience possible.

Great App

This app is well designed, super easy to use and has all the relevant information you need to find auroras. I love that you can see live updates of photos taken in the area of Auroras by other users. So much better than other apps I’ve used! Managed find some using the app :)

Response from developer

Thank you for your amazing feedback! We are happy to hear that you’re enjoying the app and finding it helpful for your aurora adventures. It’s wonderful to know that you find the moments and other features useful.

Wish more specific

Wishing I could also pick notifications on various parts of USA, since this year we have seen the Northern Lights this far south.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestion. Aurora this year has been amazing, and we completely understand how exciting it would be to have notifications for more areas, including different parts of the USA. While we would love to expand our coverage to make this possible, we are currently limited by our resources. Please know that this is something we hope to work towards in the future, as we continue to grow and improve. Thank you for your understanding and support, it means the world to us!

Happy

Very happy with the service you provide

Good app with lots of data

I use this app to track the aurora in Montana. It works well, is intuitive, and has decent notifications.

My only complaint is that it only lets you upload pictures of the aurora in the moment. I took a bunch of great photos and tried uploading them the next morning and it wouldn’t let me “Aurora not active in you area error message. It would be nice to be able to upload a photo after the fact and specify the date, time, location that you took it!

Response from developer

Thank you so much for your valuable feedback! We are happy to hear that the app is working well for tracking the aurora in Montana and that you have found it intuitive. We sincerely apologise for the late reply, but we wanted to take the time to carefully address your suggestion. The "Moments" feature was designed to share live aurora photos in real-time, which is why it currently only allows uploads when the aurora is active. However, we absolutely love your idea of being able to upload photos taken after the specifying the date and location. This is a fantastic suggestion, and we will definitely consider it for future updates. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us, we are always working to improve, and your input helps us do that!

2 things need to change

So I absolutely love this app but there is one major thing that really grinds my gear. When you first open the app it brings you to the percentage of likely seeing the Aurora along with the aurora strength. It would still be nice to even see if the possibility is zero and the aurora strength despite it being high or low. There has only been two occasions where those two aspects of the app have actually had data on them. For example I use the aurora pro app as well, and if there is no chance of seeing the Aurora at that time it will say 0%. I like this app better because it gives you way more information than the Aurora Pro app that I also use and that would literally be the only thing I would recommend adding to this app. When the Aurora Pro app even says one or 2% there have been times that I have seen the aurora. And when I log into this app it doesn’t say anything. It just has a dash across the chance of seeing the Aurora and the aurora strength. And then when you click for more information it doesn’t give you the detail details either it just has that dash where the number should be. Please fix this and I will delete all other apps!!!!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We apologise for the late reply and understand your frustration regarding the registration. The reason we require registration is to create a safe and enjoyable community where users can share their aurora photos and connect with others.

Where‘s my Pro Account?

Got confirmation from Apple about my subscription. But App doesn‘t show the Pro Account. Disappointing, even the App seems to be close to be perfect for chasing the aurora.

Response from developer

Hi there, Sorry about that, there has been a few issues in the past few days. Can you email me at jeremy@hello-aurora.com so I can help you enable your Pro subscription correctly. Cheers

An unexpected error happenend…

… please restart the app.
And again.
And again.
And again…..

Can‘t use the App 😠

Won’t show any info if it thinks you live too low

Unfortunately, the app may simply tell you “aurora are rarely seen at your location,” and won’t show any data. Which… is wrong.

I’ve seen two incredible 360° aurora shows at lower KPs than this, plus a handful of smaller ones, just this year.

Stick to soft serve news, which doesn’t try to force an erroneous interpretation of the data.

Response from developer

Hi there, thanks for your feedback! Our calculations are based on a combination of factors and not solely on the KP index, as it’s not real-time data. However, we acknowledge that the results can occasionally be inaccurate. We’re committed to improving the app and would appreciate if you can provide us more information at contact@hello-aurora.com.

Last update crashed the app

It was great app till this recent updates which makes this app unusable.

Yep you broke it

It says Houston we have a problem. And you do. It’s not working after you said you fixed bugs but might have broken other things

Unable to use app

I’m unable to create an account to use the app. I keep receiving an error saying, “Network request failed.”

Please change this

The app is good I used while I was in Norway . Now I’m back in England and today after the big solar storm we could see northern lights in Cambridge, I know it’s weird but it happened!! I really wanted to share this moment in the app and when I was about to do it , the app didn’t let me saying that it’s impossible to spot northern lights in my location 😅😅 please update this because if it happens again it would be helpful to see people’s around me moments

Okay, but what about the Aurora Australis

This app is good, but I’m not yet sure it will work for me, as it says I’m too far south, when we actually get aurora here all the time. It seems to be designed around the premise that there are only aurorae in the northern hemisphere (the northern lights), when in fact, they happen in the southern hemisphere too and the southern lights, as seen from Tasmania and New Zealand are every bit as spectacular as they are in the north. Could you please rejig your app to accommodate the other aurora. Having said that, thanks for the effort you have gone to so far. 😎
