Steep learning curve for 86yr old! 🙄

Each update helps as well as secret use of AI

Cannot connect

I appreciate that this is a free app. Having said that, it should be able to connect and maintain a connection to Home Assistant. This has never worked reliably and the worst is that now it just goes into a death spiral of retries with literally no other controls on the screen to get it out of this endless cycle.

Widget customisation still poor

Simple widget, open/closed door sensor. The most important part “open/closed” isn’t customisable and is smallest part of the widget. Dynamic colour change would be nice please. The rest of the app is great! Only 3 stars because when everything is running ok I hardly ever open the app, widgets should be the first line of alert.

The ultimate smart control platform

Configuration meets you where you are. Point and click through the GUI, or drop straight into YAML when you want real control, and both work equally well. The design is genuinely polished, fast and clear on every screen. It stays connected, responds instantly, and just keeps running without babysitting.

Terrible

Highly don’t recommend

It’s simply the best.

It’s better than all the rest. It’s better anyone. Anyone I ever met. I’m stuck in your heart. I hang on to every word you say. Tear us apart?? No, no.. Baby, I would rather be dead. -Tina Turner

Amazing

Home assistant is by far the best home automation system. Flawless.

Hey, thanks Nabu Casa

Whatever you have done with HA Mac app, it NO longer works for me! I now have to login via browser, which works just fine. Thanks for the DOWNGRADE?????
Boo hiss

Crazy, powerful, but…

Home Assistant is incredibly powerful. However, the extremely complicated UI is not at all user-friendly. The same information can be accessed in so many different ways, not always with the same results, and it is often not apparent which feels can be clicked for more information and which not. In an ideal world. Would be redesigned so that it is much more intuitive without AI, I would never have learned to use it.

HA Review

Home Assistant is a great home automation app!

I started using it in January and have never gone back to Apple Home

Forced to use this, but it sucks

This is not a good app, it is slow and glitchy and often won’t scroll properly. It won’t connect to Home Assistant and I’m forced to reload to stop it from endlessly trying to connect.

Home Assistant itself is great but I expect more from the team than this terrible app.

You need a LLM integration to use

I think myself quite tech savvy but this is a ridiculous rabbit hole to go down. If it wasn’t for LLMs I would never have even got the thing connected. Now I’ve connected Claude via MCP I’m loving it

Feels vibe coded

So many problems. Just to name a few:
1) I can’t right click the icon to access preferences (just loads and closes the app).
2) There’s a difference between pressing the red close button and tapping the icon (the latter “hides” the window, which randomly pops up later on at the worst possible time).
3) The iOS app has a “Companion app” section in the settings, while the MacOS app uses the menu bar (which is broken in my case).

Lots of poorly thought out decisions like this throughout. I know it’s an open source app, so I shouldn’t be complaining, but I think quality has definitely taken a back seat to speed and perhaps vibe coding.

I love HA, it’s so awesome.

Update Killed Apple Watch

I've had my Apple Watch configured and working for quite a while now, however, after a recent update it stopped showing my configured actions. I couldn't get it to sync back to my watch so I deleted my Apple Watch configuration to start from scratch. Unfortunately, the iOS app was unable to see or add ANY actions to the configuration. I can create folders and that syncs to my watch but without actions a list of folders is pointless! Phone: iPhone 17 Pro, Watch: Ultra 2

Update: After reseting "Complications"??? Don't even know what these are ... Entities to add to the menu started showing up again.

Great overall, hate new minimum width

In a recent version the companion app had some kind of minimum width enforcement set and now it refuses to go to the width I have run it at for years. I really hope this gets undone soon as I love the usefulness of the app but am having a hard time placing it I a visible spot due to lack of horizontal real estate.

Great product, with an awesome app

Open source app that works great with Shelly products

iOS 15?

iOS 15? That was the current version of IOS IN 2022, when it was superseded by IOS 16. IOS 26 is the latest version. I think what you are trying to say is that users need a minimum of IOS 15
