Pay
I did almost 5 year student pick and drop but this company is like uber taking 60% and giving drivers 40%
Lack of Transparency and Poor Support
The app itself may function adequately, but the onboarding experience behind it was extremely frustrating.
I completed the required medical screening process through the company’s designated provider, but important information regarding possible out-of-pocket medical costs was not clearly disclosed upfront. I was redirected between multiple clinic locations due to scheduling and operational issues, and communication throughout the process was inconsistent.
When billing problems arose afterward, getting clear answers and support took far longer than expected.
Transparency and applicant support during onboarding seriously need improvement. Future applicants should be aware that unexpected expenses and communication issues may occur during the process.

Unfair & Broken System for Drivers
Hopskip Drive — Unfair to Drivers, No Accountability (2026)
I drove for Hopskip Drive in 2026 and the experience was deeply frustrating. Pay rates dropped significantly, and they introduced grouped routes where you pick up multiple students at different stops — which creates a chain reaction of lateness flags whenever one student isn’t ready on time. Drivers get penalized for things completely outside their control.
It got worse: I was repeatedly sent to incorrect pickup addresses. When I reported the errors, the system still logged me as late and Hopskip used those logs to threaten deactivation. At one point, a family member who was NOT on the assigned route demanded to be picked up at an unscheduled location. I declined. They responded by filing a false complaint accusing me of making obscene comments. I have dashcam footage proving this never happened — Hopskip reinstated me after reviewing it, then deactivated me again hours later over another address error logged as my fault.
When I tried to appeal and present my evidence, they ignored me completely. Years of excellent service meant nothing. If you’re considering driving for this platform, document absolutely everything — you’ll need it.

App is meh, Company is Fabulous!
I love driving for HopSkipDrive (HSD)! There are so many wonderful things about it. However, I’m finding more and more reasons I don’t like the app - or maybe just things I’d like to see changed. That said, I’m one who ALWAYS likes to end on a positive note - and there are some great positives to end on, so keep that in mind as you read the “less than positives” that I’m starting with.
So first, the App. The very first thing I noticed about it that I didn’t like is that it doesn’t function in landscape mode. So if you’re someone like me who has poor eyesight and uses their iPad as much as possible, or rotates their phone so the font enlarges to be more easily read, that won’t work with this app. The best you’re going to get is portrait mode on a larger screen. Secondly, there is no app for computers - the only way to schedule rides is on the mobile app. I called driver support to ask about this and was told that they want to be a mobile company. OK, I get that. But I would find it much easier to schedule my rides on my laptop - again, easier to see and an app would transfer to my mobile device. But whatever, their choice. Third, for whatever reason, the app requires a full screen on my iPad when in landscape mode. This makes it SUPER difficult for me to plan my rides. I’m a very visual person and really need to be able to see my trips side by side - and I like to be able to use Google Maps to see if I can get from a drop-off to a pickup without being late. It would be nice if I could do all of this without having to flip from one screen to another. All of this becomes particularly grating when I see all the wasted space on HSD screen. A fourth problem I have with the app isn’t really a *problem,* but rather a change I’d like to see. With HSD’s commitment to being a fully mobile company, it would be nice if they would add the option to add ride schedules to Apple or Google (or whatever) Calendar’s when the ride is accepted/scheduled. It takes a lot of my time to go through, check my calendar, plan my rides, then transfer them all to my calendar so I don’t double book myself. Many, many other appointment apps allow you to transfer appointments to calendars. It seems possible to do that here. Finally, I’d love for HSD to work it so that their app would transfer with Apple Car Play so I could see their map on my car display. Looking at my phone is hard and can be dangerous. In rereading this, it seems like my problems might be particular to me. And maybe they are. Maybe nobody else anywhere has these problems. But I’m guessing that if these changes were made, many lives would be made easier. I totally support HSDs commitment to the mobile lifestyle but the mobile lifestyle is evolving, and I believe HSDs app should evolve with it.
Now the good! And it’s great! This part wont be as long - but if it wouldn’t seem juvenile, I’d use lots of exclamation marks!! Driving for this company is fabulous. They really make it so easy to make some decent money helping people (KIDS) who really need it. The app really is pretty easy to use (even if there are a lot of changes I’d make to it). Customer Service is quick and typically super helpful. They offer great bumps in pay for particular *regular* rides and bumps in pay for rides that are last minute and need to be picked up. I would, in a heartbeat, recommend driving for HSD. I felt like this area was a review for their app, not their service, so that’s what I left - a review of their app. But I wanted to make sure I left the good information, too.
