Me and my family tried this a couple weeks back. The app is hard to understand and you can’t create an account without a Japanese phone number. We ended up having to pay 5x because we needed to pay for a physical day pass you can only get in limited locations. The bikes themselves were fun to ride.
Can't receive SMS confirmation to US phone number
App says it accepts foreign phone numbers that can receive SMS, however US phone numbers will not work. Many other reviews and posts online confirm the same.
It does not work for US phones
It does not send the SMS authentication therefore you won’t be able to use a bike.
Works, I rode around Kyoto
Some steps to get the app installed but worked fine. Had to guess my region. Make sure to use the manual lock before returning via the app.
