Best Budgeting App

Simple and thorough. Easy to use. The best budgeting app for all my use cases. It’s not flashy but it’s solid and well-supported. One of the most useful apps on my phone.

The ONLY Canadian Alternative

I love this app, this is truly the only true budgeting app that has worked properly with synchronization with Canadian financial institution. I can’t believe I didn’t find this years ago, I wish they would market it outside of Word of Mouth a bit, I truly feel like this app could of saved me so much money then, hopefully it’s not too late 😅

Great but..

I have been having issues with the rule. Rules doesn’t work consistently and for some reason, new rules are created automatically even when I turned off the rule preferences setting. Sometimes, I have to spend more time fixing the transactions…

Response from developer

Hi there, thanks for flagging this! Happy to confirm that the app had since been significantly updated and the reported bug has been fixed. If you’re still experiencing any issues, please reach out to us at support@lunchmoney.app and we’ll be happy to help!

Subscription Fail

I purchased an annual subscription through the App Store but 3 months into the subscription Lunch Money shows no active subscription. The developer is unresponsive and I can’t get a refund through the App Store. Maybe a monthly subscription would have worked but the annual does not.

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for writing in and sorry to hear this happened. We offer a variety of different support channels and dedicated support team that is always available to help! If you're still having trouble, could you please reach out to us at support@lunchmoney.app so we can assist? Thank you!

Income moved to spending?

I love this app but since the last update, income was moved to spending!! Can you fix that?

Response from developer

Thanks for the kind words, and for reaching out about this! With the migration to the v2 API, the mobile app now displays debits as positive and credits as negative as the default. While the web app includes a toggle for this display setting, user preferences are not yet fully reflected in the mobile app. We’re actively working to bring this into alignment and this should be resolved soon in an upcoming update. Thanks for the continued patience in the meantime!

Sync issues, unusable product, absolutely atrocious customer support

This product worked well until I started using wealth simple. My wealth simple accounts would constantly disconnect, and it’s always a hassle to reconnect. What’s more ridiculous is recently it started to report all the debit transactions as credits and I have to manually correct all of them. Like what?…
And every time I reach out to customer support the script is just to blame Plaid. Guess what? Monarch money seems to work just fine and they also use Plaid.
The lack of attention to this product breaking bug seems crazy to me given how popular WealthSimple is in Canada.
Sad because I really liked this product initially but now it’s completely unusable.

Response from developer

Thanks for writing in and sorry to hear about your experience! Canadian bank connections are particularly prone to bank syncing issues today, as many of Canada’s major banks, including Wealthsimple, are still operating on older authentication methods while awaiting final open banking and OAuth regulatory guidance. The Wealthsimple integration via Plaid has a number of known issues officially recognized by Plaid, and our support team actively escalates all reported issues to validate these issues and show user impact to help with fix prioritization. If you’re open to it, please email us at support@lunchmoney.app with more details and I’d be happy to take another look at what you’re experiencing!

Reallllly good

Have been using this app for almost a year and really love it. I use it for expense and income tracking, but there are other features like budgeting that are likely very useful as well. I’d give it 6 stars if I could!

Response from developer

Thank you so much for your kind feedback! It truly means a lot to us and we're so glad to hear you're a fan! 💛

Impressive

I’m genuinely impressed by how streamlined, simple, and minimalist this app is. It clearly knows its role: a lightweight, on-the-go companion rather than a bloated all-in-one solution. The heavy lifting is sensibly left to the web interface on a proper desktop screen, and that focus is exactly what I’m looking for

Great app

Great app. Sometimes the banks accounts don’t update but overall love it

Doesn’t connect to many financial institutions

Most of these apps use Plaid to connect to their financial institutions and that company does not connect to online banks like NEO or EQ. It doesnt even connect to Royal Bank.

Response from developer

Hi there! While Neo Financial is not currently supported for automatic syncing via Plaid, I can confirm that EQ Bank and RBC Royal Bank (Canada) should be available to connect! If you're still having trouble, please reach out at support@lunchmoney.app and we’d be happy to assist. :)

love this finance/ budgeting app money

This is an amazing website based platform but it’s nice to be able to have it on my phone. would love to see more come to the app overtime!

Best budgeting app around

Compared to many other apps, Lunch Money is offers a lot of functionality that simply doesn’t exist elsewhere. Perfect for those who want something more than a spreadsheet. The app doesn’t hide data and infantilize you compared to many other budgeting tools.

Still charged

After ending my subscription and DELETING my account I’ve still been charged a subscription fee this month… Not worth the headache

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for reporting this and sorry to hear this happened! If you haven't already, could you please reach out to support@lunchmoney.app so that we can look into this for you? Thank you!

Best budgeting app yet

After trying a few different apps, I was about to go back to spreadsheets when I discovered Lunch Money. It provides the multi-currency support that I need and helps me see what is actually available to spend!

Like all financial apps, Canadian banks occasionally need to be set up again, but this seems to be more of a bank issue than an app issue.

The user-face is aesthetically pleasing and easy to use, and the support team is responsive when you need help.

Looking forward to future updates!

Love lunch money

This is an excellent companion to the more extensive web app. Support is very helpful and love being a part of a discord as well as the open API structure. Good stuff LM team!

New update broke app

The app crashes making it unusable

Amazing money management tool

This mobile app is a companion to the web app. It has more limited functionality compared to the web app since Lunch Money is focused on a web-first experience.

Getting started was relatively straightforward! This is a breath of fresh air compared to some money management tools that have high learning curves.

I love that it allows for me to set certain categories to rollover funds from one budget period to the next. This is great for variable expense categories like gifts, emergency fund, sinking funds, etc.

I also really love that you can set custom budget periods. You don’t have to follow the traditional monthly budget period if you don’t want to! You can set budget periods that align with your paycheck schedule.

By far the best personal finance app

This has everything I wanted, the devs are responsive and helpful, the community is kind. The ability to edit individual transactions is easy as well as mark them as reviewed or not. The analyze or budgeting features are also super easy to use. 100/10

Disappointing lack of functionality

The service itself is ok, really struggles with some major banks. But the functionality in the app is severely lacking. Seems I cannot even log in to any banks, which effectively renders the app useless, as it makes me log in to cibc every single time I use the service.

Response from developer

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your feedback! Canadian bank connections are particularly prone to bank syncing issues today, as many of Canada’s major banks, including CIBC, are still operating on older authentication methods while awaiting final open banking and OAuth regulatory guidance. We understand that bank syncing is an integral part of the experience, and while we are downstream from this process between your bank and Plaid, we have a dedicated support team to actively escalate sync issues to help prioritize fixes. If you haven't already, please reach out at support@lunchmoney.app and we’d be happy to take a closer look and assist further!

Works great

A great addition to the web app which has made tracking my finances easy!
