No longer free

I loved the free version, the ability to see beautiful artwork and learn about the artists that created it was great. Now it’s no longer free and I have to pay. No, not happening!! I deleted the app because of this.

Loved but disappointed now

I loved the free version of this app. I loved discovering new artists while enjoying the greats. Being an artist myself, I found inspiration and motivation to keep honing my skill set.

However, after this last update I can no longer get past the “force-you-to-buy” page and enjoy the app as its advertised as free OR paid usage.

The note on the screen says try it free for 7 days, but in order to get pad that screen you *have* to pay for the subscription or you can’t use the app at all. I’ve been using Mellow for well over 6 months now and find this extremely disappointing. $20 doesn’t seem like much, but being on a fixed income, that’s a lot of money - and forcing people to pay to keep using an app advertised as free, is just plain unethical.

I’ll be deleting the app, and will no longer recommend the app like I have been.

Very, very disappointed 😔

Ruined it

I used to really really like this app to look at art when it first came out but with the new updates it has the app doesnt even work. There is way too many glitches to the point where i cant even see the art due to the daily check in screen. I also saw the implementation of a subscription service and I fail to see what is exactly “premium” besides the removal of ads which didnt even exist until a short while ago. I would rather look up art on pinterest or something because it just doesnt work anymore. :(

Frustrating

So far the paid app is worse than the free app. I tried to contact Mellow online, but the contact form online reads “Required Field” even after I’ve completed it (four times); so I cannot even submit questions or a complaint. It’s a great idea and I enjoy a lot of the artwork (altho it often gives me artwork I clearly don’t like by my previous choices); overall very glitchy and disappointing considering I thought it promised me artwork to view three times a day. I get the same artwork all day long, cannot access my favorites, etc.

Frustrating, Nerve-Riding, Vein-Popping, Teeth-clenching

I have been trying to delete my account for almost a year and have contacted/emailed customer support multiple times—no response. It always says “Error! Failed to Delete Account.” Just let me delete my account. FREE ME!!!!!

Keep it free

I really love this app and have been using it for a very long time to discover new art. I noticed a subscription plan has been implemented, which is fine by me, as long as I can continue using the app for free. I don’t mind if there are ads, or a limited amount of artworks I can see per day - I just really hope this doesn’t turn into one of those apps that you’re required to pay a subscription for. I think that will damage this app more than it would help promote it.
I’m writing this review because after noticing the subscription feature, I’m unsure if I’m going to have to pay, given the “continue using the app for free for 7 days” message. Does this mean a free 7 day trial with all features, or that the app will cease to be free entirely in the future? I hope I can use it for free with ads instead of being unable to use it without a subscription, as if it requires a subscription unfortunately I would have to delete the app and I’m sure many would do the same.
Keep up the good work and please allow a free option!

Impossible

I can’t review your app…I can’t figure out how to get past the immediate request for an upgrade that I do not want…which is almost the first thing I see…. Is this free or, did I read your info wrong?? Tell me what to do and I will be better able to test the app and give you your review. Thank you.

Fantasy but…

I love this app. So calming and helps me discover more art but all of a sudden now I have to pay. Not an option. No warning just “Become a Mellow patron!” No thanks.

Can’t make it work

Tried submitting to App Support without success. The ads showed a beautiful Van Gogh in slow motion. But I haven’t found anything like this. Just a slide show of obscure pictures I mostly don’t like. So I don’t understand how this is supposed to be relaxing. I have rated about 100 images, but that is all the app lets me do.

It’s a fun app and is totally relaxing. Just wish it WOULD LEARN THAT I LIKE CONTEMPORARY ART AND NOT LANDSCAPES OR PORTRAITS

Poor performance and communication

With very limited choice for exploration, the app seem to focus more on their virtual merit gift system which for me indicate they want to emphasize on fame and benefits than simply a tool to help artists find inspiration or relaxation.

It also need to be clearer about the rules for submitting works. I have seen works like series of cute simple selfies can be accepted but long hours of dedicated works are rejected. The most jarring thing in this process is they can’t give you a clear reason , it is just up to the artists to guess on their own how to have their works published.

For now, I will give myself a break. This app has given me more negative vibes than before. If there is any changes in the way they function, for now I suggest artists stick with friendlier platforms like artstation, deviantart, instagram, pinterest and more.
I hope artist be cautious of where they want to display their hard works.

However, there are some reasons for non-approval; ・Inappropriate content (e.g. violence, sexual content) ・The images are not properly arranged. (e.g., tilted, burred etc.) ・The quality of the work does not meet our standards We would appreciate for your understanding and keep enjoying Mellow app.

Nice idea but glitchy

I love viewing the artwork. It’s a great idea. However it doesnt update itself properly. It should count the number of sets you’ve viewed correctly so features are unlocked. It doesnt. Besides that it’s a fun break in my day

Multiple frustrating issues

Ugh, I got so frustrated with this app. I love the idea of it, showing new art and learning what you like and don’t like. But I don’t like what I feel are arbitrary limitations. Only being shown 10 pieces in one session is so disappointing. And some days it doesn’t even register that you saw the last batch and it fails to show you a new batch. And when you navigate through the clunky UI go to see an old master artist’s page, for instance, it doesn’t have some of their best pieces.

I am also an artist and thought this could be a cool, fun way to get some of my art seen. But no, that doesn’t seem to work as it should either. I submitted a piece and the next day it was accepted and my account became an artist account. Then I submitted another piece and soon after my account was reverted to a normal one and my previous piece removed. No explanation, no clear reason why. Soo I go try to get in touch with support to see what the heck happened, and lol and behold I can’t click the button to submit my query. Everything on the form was properly filled out, it just wouldn’t let me click on the submit button, as it was still greyed out. So after being frustrated for a few minutes, I promptly deleted the app and came here to complain in the one way left that I have hope for someone to see this.

Great idea, terrible and frustrating execution.

Don’t listen to Bad Reviews

I was originally skeeved out by the 3.3 star rating and almost didn’t download the app, until I realized all the 1 star ratings are from a glitch closer to the app’s release.

There is not a bug anymore, they obviously patched it and it’s a wonderful app now for art connoisseurs, art lovers, and art amateurs. Each set of artwork I get is more and more beautiful and what I love. Highly recommend this app to pass the time.

Great so far but need help with Artist Application

I got this app an hour ago or so and I love the concept of this app. looking through my mellows was really cool, and I tried to fill out the artist application but after typing my artist bio it said “type English only” and I had typed my entire bio in English. I even took out the number I used for my age and typed it out and it still didn’t work.

Nope

Can’t get past the screen that asks what days I want to see art. There’s no way to submit that answer. Also, initial 4 painting response choices are way too simplistic.
