Good place to buy things but lacking in customer support for buyers
If a seller accepts your offer, drops it off at the post office, then a few hours later changes their mind, cancels the order, and then blocks you without you even messaging them once the Mercari help center says that there’s nothing they can do in that situation to even penalize the seller even though they agreed that what they did was not fair saying it’s just how it goes sometimes. Mercari should really give buyers some sort of support in those kinds of situations because it is very unfair for any seller to have the power to do that and keep their ratings high because they block people before they can get a honest review.

I had to take my post down because I kept getting SPAM emails and inquiries. Not a good app to sell on.

Overall I enjoy Mercari BUT not enough is being done to keep sellers accountable.
Too many orders cancelled because some sellers are not serious and never ship… no warnings…
Many sellers sell fakes and there’s no proper way to hide their listings if you want to…
It would be a so much better place to shop if only there was a little more accountability.

Mercari caters to the seller. Not the buyer. They give way to much leeway to the seller. You’re pretty much screwed buying off this app. No consequences for sellers at all.

Been using it to buy and sell items since 2017 and I love it!
People don’t respond
People don’t respond to offers and I’m not even sure there are any consequences for it. I’ve sent offers to at least 5 people and not one reply. Sellers should at least be responsible for rejecting the offers if they don’t want to sell.

This company is a absolute scam, they will steal your money and will also close your account for “Breaking terms of services” when you have literally done nothing wrong. I had my seller account with them since 2019 and for some reason I’ve been getting Violations left and right for absolutely no reasons , I have never sold anything fraudulent or misleading and my account has over 400 reviews and 5 stars. But for some reason they took it upon themselves when I declined a sell to someone who was literally harassing me
And closed my account without any reason or information, they will run you up on seller fees and hold your Money Earned on their platform to pay out as hostage. I promise you go to Facebook or anywhere else.

Mercari claims to provide a safe marketplace for both buyers and sellers, but my experience proved the exact opposite. The buyer received my item, damaged it, took pictures, and blamed me for the damage. Although I strongly disagreed with the claim, I accepted the return because I trusted Mercari’s return process and believed the platform would handle it fairly. Then the situation became even worse. The return was marked as delivered, but I never received the package. I contacted Mercari immediately, expecting them to investigate. Instead, I was told to look around my house, ask my neighbors, or file a police report. My claim was eventually denied, and that was the end of it. So the buyer kept the protection, Mercari accepted no responsibility, and I—the seller—lost everything. How is this fair? As a seller, I paid Mercari’s fees and trusted the platform to protect both parties. Instead, I was left without my item, without compensation, and without any meaningful support. Mercari placed the entire burden on me while refusing to take responsibility for a transaction that happened through its own platform. This experience has completely destroyed my trust in Mercari. If sellers can lose both their item and their money with no real protection, then what exactly are we paying Mercari for? I hope Mercari seriously reconsiders how it treats honest sellers. A marketplace cannot survive if only buyers are protected while sellers are left to bear all the risk.

Nothing selling
I’ve been on Mercari as a seller since the end of June beginning of July and I have not sold one item. They limit you to 100 items and I just don’t feel like I’m getting the eyes on my listings. eBay and Poshmark are doing great. I don’t know what the deal is with Mercari.
Easy and Convenient
Mercari makes buying and selling so simple. The app is easy to use, and I’ve found some great deals. Definitely a five-star app!

My experience with Mercari overall has been pretty good and they’ve made great strides and improvements on the app. however, your auto moderation keywords. My message to a customer was incorrectly flagged; I was offering her a free gift from my shop and asking for the 'item#' from my shop she wanted for a free gift with her purchase. The system likely mistook 'item#' for a phone number. I attempted to email customer support this information but have not responded so making sure it gets through.

I’ve been using it for 2 years and I like it alot, I use it primarily for buying monster high and other collector items, yes they do have scalpers but any site like this does. My biggest red flag is that if you put an offer and they accept it Mercari will just automatically buy it for you. Found that out when I saw my card was randomly charged! So its great but if you’re offering you better be 100% positive you want whatever item you’re offering on.

The secondary ebay
Picked up this app once I had trouble finding items on ebay. This tends to be the next place I visit for people selling items that are bit hard to find. Selling items is easy too and payout is quick.
Items being automatically promoted with promotion off
My items are constantly being lowered even to 50% off. I never okayed it and promotion stuff is off in app. Just talked to somebody else. With the app they said they had the same problem and they were really mad an item sold for $15 less than they wanted for it. I’ve been told to download Vinted supposed to be a free selling app kinda like this one used to be when I started..

The great decline.
Mercari used to be great, affordable shipping prices and reasonable fees. Now everything is a money grab, fees are up shipping is up and let’s not get into them removing listings of luxury items because we don’t want to pay an additional fee to authenticate with their joke of a process. I’ve seen far too many clearly inauthentic items they authenticated and had my listings removed and been warned because I didn’t way to pay for that. Overall I prefer to pay higher fees on other sites.

Warning here to rip you off
WARNING: Mercari defaults sellers to “free shipping” without clear disclosure — I sold shoes for $9 and ended up paying shipping out of my own pocket just to complete the sale. The shipping label didn’t even show the real cost, so there was no way to catch it. You can literally lose money giving away your own items.
On top of that, there is NO way to reach a live person when something goes wrong. Just automated loops. If you’re a seller, check your shipping settings carefully before you list anything, or you’ll get burned like I did.
This isn’t a bug, it’s a design choice that benefits Mercari at sellers’ expense. Buyer/seller beware.
