Does What It’s Supposed To
Downloaded the app because I didn’t want to keep track of a card. Now use it daily for my commute. Never had any issues. I appreciate that I can use my credit card to add funds and get cashback lol
Terrible user experience
This app is confusing and frustrating. It does not make riding the bus an easy or convenient experience.
Missed Opportunity
I am so puzzled by this app and the entire Madison metro system upgrade. With such an extensive tech refresh, you would hope and expect the adoption of the most convenient and modern payment technologies.
The decision not to include express transit support or direct credit card payments seems flawed.
The ride workflow is really weird with the option to use a QR code, but what appears to be a requirement to obtain a physical transit card before you can use the app.
The app feels dated and is buggy. Apple Pay, while displayed as a payment option, failed to process transactions.
This is a new and upgraded experience. Madison should aspire to do better. Having used public transit in multiple cities worldwide, I can honestly say this is one of the most confusing and frustrating transit apps I have used.
It would help if the FAQ about the upgraded riding technology included information about how to use the app, including how to use the QR code. As of May, 2025, the FAQ states that a mobile app will be released in 2024.
The simple answer is to enable transit cards as well as express transit. There is no need to build a poor quality app when both Android and iOS include these features natively.

Lack of real integration
Don’t understand why full integration with wallet express transit option on iPhones is not done. Using this app is nonsense when the native solution apple provides is easier for everybody.
Doesn’t use express mode from wallet
EDIT: They added “apple wallet suppression”in an update. Madison really screwed up choosing masabi for this one. The app is not integrated with Apple’s transit fare card express pass service, meaning that using the app is just as clumsy as fumbling around with a wallet and paper cards and bills. Madison Metro just HAD to outsource to Masabi to produce this junk app, when the solution of adding this card to Apple Wallet was literally right in front of them.
