Great discovery

In research about designing
An app for compartmentalizing goals and tasks to
Break habits of procrastination and thought disorder/derailment … I checked to see if anyone else was using the name MOUNTAINS2molehills and discovered the molehillMountin app instead. What a find !

2 weeks in

I am neurodivergent on multiple levels I think and I find this app to be helpful in its simplicity and the way it prompts you. Although I do like physically writing things out this is always in my pocket and accessible

Amazing! 👏🏻

Thankyou! 🩷

Even the app name is patronising!

I really wanted this to be helpful, and used it diligently for around four weeks, but can’t recommend it. It’s hard to build trust in an app when even the title informs you your concerns are pointless and silly - hard to imagine anyone being told the potential death of their very unwell loved one is a ‘molehill’. Wildly insensitive and invalidating.

If this app doesn’t work for you despite being evidence based, don’t feel bad about it. I trained as a nurse and if you speak to a range of mental healthcare professional, they will concede CBT works for some but not the numbers who are told it will. It’s a great tool, but it doesn’t fix everything. Wholistic therapy using a variety of approaches is often better but CBT is cheap, a course can be completed in a few weeks, can be done via a bot, and outcomes are highly measurable, so organisations using it can show it’s worked for those who try it. This leads to it being pushed heavily as the ‘best’ option, and it being suggested they haven’t tried hard enough - I’ve heard this from some many folks with ASD.

Clever and helpful

We like the Worry mountain but think needs to be longer and slightly slower when you open it

Ok but what about AI? I would like computer advice

Ok

Recognising patterns.

No app will be the answer to everything. We need human connection too but I’ve found this app helpful to recognise patterns in what things make me feel anxious along side long term psychotherapy.

Great tracker for Autistic people

I was recommended this app through Mental Health Access To Work. I was sceptical at first, and it took a little while to get into it. But I really like it now. It’s specifically for autistic people as you track your worries and concerns overtime, you can see the things that bother you the most. You can also see whether or not. It’s a general anxiety, a specific anxiety, sensory anxiety or a social anxiety. I actually found this quite helpful to break it down into the sections. Every now, and again you’ll unlock some extra learning/knowledge about autism and anxiety. I’m not sure if it’s anything new, but certainly a great reminder! (Poor memory!) There are specific breathing exercises, and a section where you can think about your worries, and then tap and lock them away… meh… I have written to Kings College, who are the creators of the app and made a number of suggestions for improvements. But for now I think it’s pretty good. I think generally it helps with self-awareness.

Amazing

But it randomly logged me out after an update and won’t let me back in. I had a 130 something day streak and all my settings, which I think are now lost :(

Edit: they fixed it! Thank you

Upsetting.

My sister used this app for years to help her with many of difficulties. When the recent update logged her out, she’s never been able to login since, and she is devastated by it. She’s tried reinstalling, and asking for a new password and she’s never been given one (despite the numerous tries). Starting a new account is too much for her as well.
My sister won’t recommend this app from now on, until the fault for her (and perhaps many others) is fixed.

Not great

I’m not impressed with this app. It’s really basic and badly thought out. It’s also quite patronising. I was told about this app after I got my ASD diagnosis by my assessors. I also have PTSD and the best app ever has to be “PTSD Coach”. The exercises, tracker, listing feelings (very good if difficulty identifying these) are without comparison. As about 40-50% of people with ASD also have an anxiety disorder, the exercises on PTSD Coach are really good. For the developers of this app: check out PTSD Coach- learn and do better. Molehill Mountain is not good enough, needs improving and I would not recommend it in its present form.

Dreadful app for anyone with ASD

As a person with ASD, I find the amount of typos in this app extremely irritating. I can’t see any modifications here for people with ASD. It says to log in once a day but is that as a minimum or should we log in regularly throughout the day if it’s supposed to be a journal? Lots of us with ASD have poor short-term memory and if I log in once a day it may be that at that time my anxiety is quite low but has been extremely earlier in the day. It’s not really keeping track of my anxiety throughout the day in that case. I often wake up with severe anxiety which can diminish as the day goes on or get even worse depending on multiple factors. Also, the fields for entering info are far too small meaning you can’t read what’s on the balloons. I don’t see the point of this app, I might as well just go back to using my online journal. I agree with previous posters that Autistica should not be promoting this app. It’s terrible for autistic people who need clear instructions and are often extremely irritated by typos.

.

It seems like it’s meant for kids but doesn’t matter wut works works.

Molehill

A really nice simple informative app with checkins for autistic people.

I’m glad this exists

This app has a few kinks that could be ironed out, but I love that this app exists at all so I will not be taking off any stars from this rating.

I have severe anxiety that prevents me from doing a lot of things on a daily basis. I wake up nauseous on days where I have to leave the house.

This app gives me a visual representation of the progress I make while learning to deal with anxiety, and that’s exactly what I need: proof that I’m improving over time.

So I’m just writing this little review as a thank you to the people who created this. You guys have given me a tool that will help me address and conquer my anxiety disorder.

Poor - no support and changes unpredictably

This is not usable as it currently stands. It is sad to see a charity endorsing a product that so obviously wasn’t ready for release.

Lots of typos throughout the app - not a respectful way to treat young people with ASD.

The game changed with no warning (from moles popping out to balloon popping) and the game is a poor format - same every time, no stretch for the child as the max score is so low. If your worries are long you can’t even read them when you are popping the balloons.

My child was also very upset that this app automatically upgraded with no warning. Surely for people with ASD who struggle with change this should have been considered and flagged? All his diary entries were wiped from before and the system wouldn’t allow me to recover the old profile.

Unreliable and no support from the makers when things go wrong.

Removes social anxiety barrier of talking with a therapist. Excellent!

I’m an autistic woman who was diagnosed at age 28. My anxiety has been lifelong, and in my late 20s, was debilitating enough to go to a therapist. (My therapist was the one who clued me into autism.) Therapy didn’t last long, because I feel heightened anxiety whenever there is another person in the room. Given my barrier to therapy, this Molehill Mountain app is an incredibly valuable resource to me. Thank you to the creators and researchers behind it!

Autism

I have autism. This application is amazing! Extremely helpful. Thank you

It’s Going Places

This app provides a really grounding experience for me to reflect on my day instead of just moving onto the bedtime routine and starting again in the morning. I do think the ability to remove worries would be helpful, since some are very situational and once the situation is past, seeing it pop up in the app can trigger the same anxiety even though it’s not applicable.

Not Working As Needed

I love the concept, everything is set up nicely that I would use this consistently, but it doesn’t send notifications at my set reminder time. It has other mini issues such as the x button to get out of the large text boxes doesn’t work, and the anxiety scale doesn’t fit properly on my screen so I can’t read it or slide the scale. I would happily use this app again if those problems were fixed!
