About

Point your phone at the skyline and MonUview tells you what you're looking at. It uses your location and your phone's compass to find the documented places around you — buildings, monuments, bridges, parks, historic sites — and puts them in view where they actually are. Turn, and they turn with you. Tap one to read what's known about it. THREE WAYS TO USE IT Walk it live — the camera view, with landmarks labelled over the street in front of you. Camera off — the same landmarks against a clean backdrop, at a wider radius. Works indoors, and uses far less battery. Preview — look around a place before you go there. WHAT IT'S FOR Walking an unfamiliar city. Finally learning what that building you pass every day actually is. Standing somewhere old and wondering what happened there. NO ACCOUNT, NO ADS, NO TRACKING There is no sign-up, because there is nothing to sign up to. MonUview has no server and no analytics. Your location is used to ask what's nearby and is never stored or sent anywhere we control — there is no "we" to send it to. The camera feed never leaves your phone. Nothing about you is kept between sessions. Landmark information comes from the open encyclopedia record of the world, maintained by the people who live near these places. MonUview needs a GPS signal and works best outdoors. Somewhere with well-documented landmarks — a city centre, a historic district, a waterfront — shows the most.
