User reviews

Can’t even get past the account setup page

Sent in my email, received a verification link, they said I was verified. Great. Go to the app, login with no issues, complete the questions about name and year of birth and if I wear glasses, contacts, etc. Click on complete and immediately get an error message telling me my email address is in an invalid format. Not a good sign.

Complex, error-prone and inaccurate

Firstly, I failed to see how this is any simpler than just trying on glasses at the store. I am aware that the top review is a fake plant attempting to preempt this feedback but it’s true.

I need readers, my prescription indicates that I need readers, and that wasn’t the result here. Ridiculous waste of time.

A revolutionary product

This app is very useful and easy to use. Takes the guestwork out of getting an add number in buying reading glasses or computer glasses or in changing my current prescription for reading glasses.

Pretty accurate

Recommended a 2.25x and they are fine

Not entirely satisfied

I don’t pay for a lot of apps, but I was intrigued by this one. It worked as advertised, I guess, but didn’t give me useful info and annoyed me on sign-up. The annoyance was that there is a checkbox about whether you want notices from them, but if you leave the opt-in box unchecked, you can’t proceed. That’s malicious design, frankly, and I didn’t appreciate it, especially from a paid app. When I did the reading test, the answer I got was “1.75+”. And, right, I knew that. I wasn’t expecting the upper limit on the app to be set so it wouldn’t give me a specific, useful, number. Bottom line: if you’re more forgiving than I am about opt-in policies and if your eyesight is still good enough that you can make out text if you hold a book at arms-length, go ahead and spring for this app and it should give you a useful number.

FAQ

What does MyReaderNumber do?

MyReaderNumber uses Augmented Reality (AR) technology to measure your near vision power. It helps you determine the exact power of reading glasses you need without leaving home. The app provides personalized results based on your age and how you use your eyes.

How does the app determine my reading glasses power?

The app utilizes AR technology to conduct a vision test. You will input your age and specify your usage preferences, such as smartphone use, reading, or computer work. Based on this information and the AR measurements, it calculates the recommended power for your reading glasses.

Is MyReaderNumber free to use?

The app itself is free to download and use for basic functionality. However, to get personalized results and measure your reading glasses power, there is a one-time fee. This fee covers the advanced features and personalized recommendations provided by the app.

What are the technical requirements for MyReaderNumber?

MyReaderNumber requires an iPhone X or newer that supports Face ID. This is because the app relies on the advanced camera and sensor technology of these devices to perform accurate Augmented Reality measurements.

Can I use this app for distance vision or eye health exams?

No, MyReaderNumber is specifically designed for measuring near vision power for reading glasses. It does not perform distance vision measurements or comprehensive eye health exams. For distance vision, you may need to order an EyeQue VisionCheck, and it is crucial to consult with a licensed optometrist for any eye health concerns.
