Was Once a Great App…

But then it was turned into a game and got much more complicated. I gave it three stars, because sure, it still does all of the things it did before, like providing a course to help you lose and track weight, track food and nutrition, and read helpful and supportive articles. But they’ve just added too much, thinking all the extras will motivate, or something. What was once a simple to use app that took very little of your time has been bogged down with daily art and banking seeds? What? Perhaps a better organized or more customizable interface would help, but long and silly animations and too much on the home page make the app less friendly to use. Here’s hoping they figure it out, so I can get back to the daily simplicity they preach in their articles about how to live the best version of yourself.

Recipes are great

The fees are extremely high and they do not give refunds if you forget to cancel the auto renewal one day after it charges.

Whole foods are…bad?

This app discourages people from eating certain whole foods, which is ridiculous. For example, garbanzo beans and walnuts. I understand from a calorie and/or carbohydrate perspective but if your diet is filled with healthy whole foods, they should not be in the “orange” category. Foods like Twinkies and Oreos and Doritos and soda and other processed food should be in that category.

Great for purpose. Chat poor. Chat ai bot worse.

Customer Support is terrible.

They send canned messages, constantly apologizing for my frustration but never actually solving anything. You can’t reach a human and they only propose one solution - cancel and re-enroll! Well canceling is an option because there are plenty of competitors.

Noon used to be good

Noon helped me lose weight, but it’s become impossible to use. Too many congratulatory screens and hoops to jump through in order to simply log calories. Also, it should be easier to log workouts.

The psychology tests are good but after awhile they can be an annoyance when you just want to log progress. I do like that you can take a picture of your meal and it will break it down by calories but I am concerned how much electrical power is being consumed at data centers nationwide to do that. I use it sparingly because I’m not sure it’s worth it.

The interface should be more simple. Maybe I’ve outgrown it, but it does seem to have the problem all cool software and apps eventually succumb to. Some developer feels the need to add bells & whistles rather than keep it simple and effective.

Did not help at all

They changed their business model after I purchased so it’s a subscription now and I didn’t get any helpful use out of this after wasting hundreds of dollars and being refused a refund after the lack of progress. The coach I had did not help a bit and I had to pay for a dietitian and go to a weight loss program instead. I thought at the time I could at least keep the food logs for my medical reasons but that was taken from me without warning as well after they changed. I’m incredibly frustrated and do not suggest this to anyone. Choose something else or some other program if you think this might help. Don’t expect a “coach” to help. You can get recipes from online too you don’t need this app.

Too gimmicky

The app is way too gimmicky. There is no way to customize the app.

You can’t put in medication foundayo - unless you buy in to the higher tier. So if you want the RX reminder you have to choose one of the offered choices.

You also can not turn off the annoying “seeds” award part of the app which goes through an annoying song and dance. Sometimes you’re in a hurry and just want to log in your information.

If you ask for help you’re shuffled to an AI app, which is pretty useless.

If you’ve been through the articles before, picking and choosing what you need to help would be helpful.

If you have specific health issues like knee or back then the article information does not match up with your needs.

Being able to customize the app to your needs would be fantastic; otherwise, it’s an expensive calorie counter.

Great app!

I love Noom! It keeps me focused and on track with eating and physical health and lifestyle.

Second time using

I wanted to track my intake because I was gaining weight but it’s too cumbersome now. I’ve been searching for five minutes looking weird to add additional intake to my calories without finding it. what I am finding is a bunch of ads now.

Deceptive Advertising

Noom advertises GLP-1s at $150 per month but doesn’t let you know until you’ve already paid and the prescription is sent that you have to fork over an additional $100 per month for their subscription service. The promise of change reels you in and the TINY print bait and switches you. Don’t bother with this service. Their BBB rating is terrible because of deceptive advertising and billing practices. Don’t believe me, look it up yourself!

Auto charging tricks

Well, you think you put charging on hold, well triple check as you cant contact them, you cant complain, you wont get communications and they are happy tp take your payment even if haven’t used the app for 6+ months!

It used to be usable

Sadly the Noom app has made it more and more difficult to do…well, just about anything. Log your weight? You now must sit through a count down of the number of consecutive days you’ve recorded your weight. Logging a meal? You need to see how many “seeds” you’ve earned. I’m not 6 years old and I don’t have all the time on the world. The primary goal seems to just keep you engaged with their damn app. I’ve now canceled my membership.

Great app

I have been using Noom to track my food for a few years and the last round of improvements has been fantastic. From the challenges to earn seeds to the fabulous art break every Sunday, I have really been enjoying this app. And I’ve lost weight!

CBT is Key

The CBT and micro habits are key to my weight loss journey. Boom has been instrumental in helping me.

Focus

Noom helps me to stay focused on what matters. For me it’s very psychological. I have been enrolled for about a month now and already feeling much better. It’s worth the extra time and money. Thank you for being there Noom.

Take money without service

Subscription automatically renews after a year for $199.99 but then the app reloads and I’ve lost all of my coursework, all of the paid features, and their support claims they never got the payment when my bank shows they processed it and it’s been paid out. Scammers!

Meh

Enough with the seeds stuff.

Expensive but effective

I think this is a really good system but could use a couple of improvements especially considering it’s not inexpensive. Given that the app encourages healthier habits like preparing recipes and whole food at home rather than relying as much on takeout or heavily processed feeds it would be nice to have a more user friendly interface when creating our own recipes to track. One suggestion for that is to make options like 1/3, 1/8ths available as options or the option to type in the amount.
second option is to create an interface in a browser which would allow people to create their recipes with a keyboard on a webpage which might also be faster.
