WiFi Connection Unstable

The WiFi on the LNK2WIFI module is unstable. It has a hard time connecting and frequently loses connection while I’m in the app. I’m using it paired with the ESP-TM2 12-station controller.

Awesome

OK, the app finally connected to my zone controller. The problem was I needed to take out completely the Rain Bird app on my phone and download a new version which I did and now it works perfect. This is the simplest app. I’ve got on my phone it’s right to the point. It’s very quick and easy. I freaking love it. Can I add a quick 2 to 3 minute run if I want to or I can take days off when it’s raining really easy and adjust them until later in the next week. I love it.

Poor app

When the app will not let you sign in, you know it’s kind poor. I’ve tried; 4 times since the app came out and it will not accept my password nor can I make a new password. I’m not going to waste my time again. The old app is poor but at least it works.

Horrible compared to Rachio

Rachio was a way better and more intuitive app. Rain Bird is clunky. Connection is spotty. Manual watering is way harder than it needs to be.

Random Start Times

I’m surprised I’m not seeing other reviews with this issue. The app will assign random start times to a program. For instance, if a program is set up to run every three days at 1 AM, it might show “next scheduled runtime at 9:49 AM tomorrow”. It’s not happening on all my programs all the time, but will rotate randomly amongst them with random start times. I’ve been in touch with technical support twice. No answers.

Poor WiFi

App is not very good and the communications function is terrible.

Feels Like 2001

This app barely works and barely gets the job done. The only we are using Rain Bird is because our gardener only knows how to use it. It sort of embarrassing when you look at the competition.

2.0 App is terrible

I was prompted to buy the LNK2 device and upgrade to the 2.0 app. My ESP-ME3 C390 controller is 6 years old and it was occasionally bad with the LNK1 but has become so much worse with the LNK2.

It times out frequently. It tells me zones are running when they aren’t. It is often so slow waiting for a “cloud connection” that I can’t quickly start or stop the system.

The Rainbird support team are nice but they are not being allowed to be transparent. They are having major problems with no acknowledgement and no timeline for when the problems will be fixed.

Functional at best

It works, sometimes, if it will connect. I thought maybe it was my Wi-Fi. Well, no I didn’t but I hoped that when I replaced my Wi-Fi and put an access point in my garage just 20’ away things might improve slightly. No. I want this to work. I replaced my ESP-ME main cover/board so I could add the Wi-Fi dongle, making zone checks and winterization much easier. It works when it wants to. Even after unplugging and restarting it. I was hopeful 2.0 might be better but alas it isn’t compatible with my control. I really like everything about the ESP as a control but am ready to go to something else just for the app functionality i seek.

Completely Useless

Easily the worst commercial app I have ever used. It only connects to my controller about half the time and even when it does it takes 2-3 minutes to connect and load the interface. It’s laughable how slow it is. I’d switch back to a Rachio if they made a controller that was capable of managing enough stations. Truly the worst app I’ve ever used.

Next to useless

While connection strength is listed as strong, every interaction requires an achingly slow update. The initial connection takes ~5min waiting to connect, if it does at all.

There is nothing smart about this - Same manual options but now I can do it after taking 5-10min to connect + navigate to the zone and manually turn sprinklers on/off. Woof.
Feels like a scam at $100 for the add-on module.

Went and bought an Oto sprinkler instead.

Connecting to wifi is glitchy

Wish I had the same experience as others with connecting … I can stand right in front of the controller and it won’t connect. Otherwise it is a nice app when I can use it.

App not ready for prime time

Poor connectivity. Great WiFi but still cannot open the app. No fast way to stop current water cycle.

Fails to connect to device most of the time

App always keep failing to connect and requires multiple attempts at a time to successfully connect

Glitches

App has large lag time between request. WiFi doesn’t always connect with brown outs. Just very glitchy. Able is not stable.

Connectivity Issues

Frequently unable to connect, even with controller 5ft away. Slow to respond.

Great idea, horrible execution

This app makes way too many calls to the controller and has a hard time connecting. I get about 40% connection and the rest of the times it has to retry or reboot the app.

Good but could be great

Love the app concept but lacks modern look, disconnects from current irrigation cycle and has limited functionality. In today's AI world they could do so much more.

Glitchy

It’s 2026. Come on. Let’s make an app that works smoothly without glitches all the time.

Slow to open on iPhone 14 Pro max

Update 7-16-26

All of a sudden this app is working great. Launch time vastly improved. I’d give it 5 stars if it hadn’t taken years to work right.

I’ll update to 5 stars if this isn’t a short time fix!

I close my apps when I’m done with them, keep current on iOS version, and restart the iPhone regularly. Still, this is the slowest app I have. Even tried 2.4 and 5gHz bands. I have gigabit wired service and obtain over 500 Mb speeds on Wi-Fi. Literally take a minute or more to connect to controller (and yes, I’ve tried restarting the controller). Doesn’t matter if I’m right next to controller for starting but distance to controller is key for control AFTER connected. Plenty of free ram and no problems with other apps. Anyone else have this issue?
