Absolutely worthless

I wrote this review for the accompanying Quin app needed to use the Lumos Nyxel helmet and turn signal remote. Both that app and this one wouldn't connect to the Lumos products. If you bought this particular helmet or also need the Quin app, this review is for you.

I don't usually add my real info into an app until I can guage whether or not the privacy is acceptable. I finally felt comfortable sharing with the Quin app and tried to change the name and email to my actual info, but you can't. So I tried deleting my account and starting all over, but my phone number was already used. Obviously, the account wasn't deleted because I logged right back in and all the info I'd previously entered was still there.

Furthermore, when I first opened the app, it asked for my blood type. I finally found it, but now I can't find a place to put it in the app. Did anyone test this app before pushing it out? It's not very user-friendly.

There's an SOS button with the number 12 layered on top, which looks like a notification, so I pushed it. Yeah, that was dumb. Loud alarm noise emits from my phone and when I read about what it meant, I wondered if I'd just used one of my 12 free SOS alerts, but the number remained at 12. I'm probably just going to delete it and depend on my Apple watch to notify someone if I fall. The light settings don't exist in the app as instructed in the FAQs.

Every single thing I encountered was all because there were zero instructions that came in the box and I couldn't figure out how to pair the turn signal controller with the helmet. Lo, and behold, now I need the Ride Lumos app to connect the controller to the helmet. TWO apps to use a bike helmet the way it's been marketed.

The Lumos app instructs you to press and hold the power button on the signal remote for three seconds. There is NO power button on the device! I pressed the left and right (signal) buttons simultaneously and it flashed quickly- a universal sign it had entered pairing mode, except the app never picked it up. Yes, bluetooth is on and obviously, the battery is inserted correctly in the remote or it wouldn't light up in the first place.

The Lumos Nyxel is not the only MIPS helmet with lights, but it's the only one I found with turn signals. Now that it doesn't work, requiring two apps to supposedly work, and was the most expensive of the three I purchased, I probably won't keep it. I've already found alternatives like Unit1, among others. Wish I'd just done more research before purchasing, but I was excited to ride the bike and now I have to wait even longer for a new helmet because this app just absolutely tanked the Lumos name and reputation.

Just simply not working

It wont let me pair my set of Lumos Firefly minis to the sight no matter what.. I thought it was because my phone needed a software update, nope, still doesn’t work after. Uninstalling the app and reinstalling doesn’t work, and there’s nothing online telling me how to solve this issue. I managed to pair one of my set of four after randomly messing with them, but after that it went away and I cant get it back.

Almost One Star

Apple Watch app doesn’t work. News feed stories almost all don’t load because they don’t know how to maintain a website. Starting to feel relieved that I didn’t go all-in on their hardware and just have the one helmet. Initially wrote this as a one star review, but the app on the phone at least does the bare minimum of allowing light settings to be changed. Doesn’t alert me when the helmet battery is low though (it’s always a surprise when it dies mid-ride at night), or the remote battery (guess I did get more than just the helmet, dang, but at least I didn’t spring for the Fireflies). Been using a bike share network a lot lately and sure wish the Apple Watch integration that they were advertising when I bought the helmet worked.

Apple Watch

I have been using the kickstart helmet with a Apple Watch 10, it wasn’t working that well. After the last software update, the things have been even worst. When I try to start the app in the Watch it launch and error.

Watch App DOES NOT WORK WITH HELMET

I've owned an Lumos Ultra eBike helmet for well over a year now, and it's been a good helmet. I recently purchased an Apple Watch to use for health monitoring, and to use the LumosWatch app to get turn signals on my helmet with the Watch app.

However, I have been unable to get the Watch to connect to the helmet even once. I've followed the installation and troubleshooting directions to the letter multiple times. I have the latest version of everything installed on my devices, Watch, helmet, iPhone, etc. Yet I have not been able to make the Watch connect to the helmet even once.

I've sent multiple emails to Lumos support over this issue over the last week and have not received even a single response from Lumos about this issue. There's no phone number to call them at either. Lumos has aggressively acted against people posting videos of how to fix this problem or use Lumos products from YouTube. They've taken direct action against any 3rd party that might publish any info on this.

At this point in time, I am left to two conclusions. First, that the LumosWatch app is actually incompatible with my helmet, and they simply refuse to acknowledge the issue. Second, Lumos is disingenuous in providing customer service. They say they provide it, but in reality they have no customer service infrastructure for their products at all, and they actively take steps to remove such information from the internet.

I thought Lumos was a great product, and that I was buying from a reputable company. I was clearly mistaken in that.

I would give 0 stars to this app if I could.

App won’t find remote

Remote is sync mode but app won’t find it in sync mode????

Disconnecting

My Ultra helmet keeps disconnecting from the app. Don’t know if it’s the app or the helmet. Either way, I’m not happy and will be returning the helmet.

App very buggy

The app keeps dropping my Firefly lights and messes up the syncing. The products are great. The app isn’t

Great smart helmet

I love how it works with my Segway, learning my body movement to turn on signals, would love for it to be compatible with Find My network.

Last Update Messed Up Pairing

After the last update, my Kickstart helmet does not stay connected to the phone app. Will change review after. Thank you!

Will NOT stay CONNECTED

It seem after the latest update, my Lumos devices does not stay connected to the app. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Once I paired the devices, close the app and go back to the app. It doesn’t recognize the devices. This is a bit frustrating as I mainly us the app to check the battery levels.

Daily Use

I use the helmet & front/rear turn signal lights everyday on my commute.

Honestly, i never really open the app - once it was set up, there is no need.

It gets the job done, but is very basic.

I wish there was more options for the light patterns to extend battery life - i only get about 1 day of commuting (approx 1 1/2 hours) of battery life from the rear set (brake & turn signals) on a dim steady light setting.

More LED Designs for Matrix

Love this helmet, I’m always getting compliments on it when riding. However I wish that there were more options for designs or at least updated designs for the app. There’s still designs in reference to squid games and that show is about 3 years old.. please make new designs

Best Helmets Ever!

This is my second Lumos. The first Lumos is over a year old and is flawless. I get nonstop compliments from cyclists, pedestrians, and even motorists and have never felt safer on the road. It is worth every penny, I assure you.

Expand turning signal gestures

It’s great one can initiate turning signal gestures with one’s Apple Watch.

Reminder - Apple Watch isn’t the only smartwatch on the market. There’s also Garmin Watches (what I wear while riding with my Lumos Ultra MIPS helmet). To me, this would increase the use turning signals with hand gestures vs. the remote. Much safer to use hand gestures than the remote to initiate the turning signal.

I also find it difficult to press the small remote buttons safely while riding, especially when wearing bike gloves.

Hence, to promote/encourage use of turning signals & safety on the road, i’d strongly suggest that Lumos adds other smartwatches like Garmin watches (besides Apple Watches) to it’s app.

That’s all

The app is a joke

The app used to record rides and there was an app for the Apple Watch that allowed you to use the watch with arm movement to trigger the the turn signals. That was the whole reason I purchased the helmet.
Now there is no watch app and the phone app essentially does nothing.
Why?

Doesn’t connect

I had no problem with the older version of the app. It connected to my helmet just fine. Now, I cannot connect my helmet or the new fireflies.

Great helmet. A few shortcomings.

I have the kickstart helmet. It’s great. Very visible. A few gripes though: the app used to offer a push notification of battery percentage whenever it’s turned off. That feature never seemed to work and now it’s not even offered in the app. Also, it looks like the app allows you to adjust the brightness of some helmets, but it doesn’t seem to work with the kickstart - it would be great to have this option. Finally, it would be wonderful to be able to adjust the beep volume - especially at night, it feels like everyone on the road can hear my turning beep, not just me. Other than these few points, it’s a great helmet and app.
